Mr. Wayne, I just wanted to thank you for sharing this video which fixed my problem. You were right on twice. 1) the sensor 2) after market parts. The first sensor I bought did not work and the second one did. Thank you, Sir !
Thank you that helped me out greatly. My golf cart went from 16 miles an hour down to 8 miles an hour exactly like what you said. And now I know how to fix it , thanks again
Thanks for your video. I got this exact issue with my Club Car. New batteries, but do not want to run faster than 8 miles pr hour. Great help in this video.
Great video. My cart didn't drop to 8 mph, but it does slow down significantly after cruising for a bit. Was told this is the solution, got the new sensor and magnet to put on now. Subscribed, thanks for making the video
Thanks Wayne. You’re a genius! 2013 Club Car Precedent starting running at half speed. Tried your diagnostic speed test and it failed - cart did not slow down and no reverse buzzer. Replaced speed sensor - back to normal speed. Thanks again.
I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate this video. I purchased a 2012 club cart and the owner said it needs new batteries because it’s extremely slow. But I noticed my reverse was super fast. I was getting about 7 mph going fwd. After seeing this video I went on Amazon got what I needed and replaced the sensor. 20mph now. Batteries are good saved $1500
Thank you so much for sharing this. My husband bought a golf cart with a large dump bed in back to help load yard debris and dump it. When it started to crawl like a turtle, especially going up hill, I was afraid to trust taking it down our wooded trails. When my husband viewed this, he ordered the part for twenty something and today he put it on. Immediately the cart was back to normal speeds. What a blessing as compared to sending it to a cart repair shop. God bless you!
Hey bud....thank You very much for your video on the sensor----changed it today on my cart----problem solved! I was gonna call the cart place that I bought it from til I saw the video----you helped me save at least a couple of hundred dollars minimum....Thx again
Great video on the speed sensor. Quick question - My Club car, all new customize but on a 2011 frame, had a great top speed above 26MPHs. The magnet/ speed sensor went bad and needed to be replaced. Now my cart won’t go pass 20 MPH. Could the sensor be wrong? Or do I need to have the speed code re set to 5. To reset it do I need to purchase a new private speed code kit?
Wayne that was a great video. My 2011 Club Car Pesedent is jerky when taking off. It's not so bad at high speed. I checked each battery and they are good. Don't seem to have the speed it should have.
Hey I want to thank u for this video it helped me out so much I just had got this cart and didn't know what was wrong with it but I new it should have gone faster than what it was going your video help me out thanks again
Thank you sir, today I took my dog for a ride in my 2011 Club Car (just like the one in this video I mean identical) and it would only go about half the speed it normally goes). Glad I searched and found your video, THANKS!!!!!
We were working on a 91 club car one cylinder 4-stroke and there's a hose that comes from the carb to somewhere any ideas looks like it should go to the crankcase. I did find out if you plug the hose it won't start.
Wayne you rock. Just bought my first Club Car Precedent. Slow... Did the MCOR and speed sensor. went from 6 to 16-17mph. Keep up the good work. I like how you tell us what size tool your using. Time saver. I do have a question, the cart rattles, mostly in reverse with torc, but sometimes in forward under pressure...? Wheel bearing? Drum?
Could be a wheel bearing. If you jack the rear of cart of, and hit the go pedal, and it doesn't make that noise, but when you put weight in cart ( sitting in it), and you then hear it, probably is a wheel bearing. It's hard to know what a person describes as rattling.
Thanks for this, Now I feel like a know something, the previous video I watched didn't even show where the electric motor was. And yes I need to know that. :)
Hello Wayne you are my go to person, If I disable the OBC or On Board Computer on my 2006 Club Car Precedent, can I use a LINKS Series charger EPS by Lester Electric to charge my cart?
Excellent video. I have an '06 CC Precident electric. My problem is the cart will not move every time I push the accelerator. It might take several pushes to get it to go aand now it won't go at all, forward or reverse. I have new batteries, good charge. I put a speed magnet on it about 5 years ago to improve speed. I don't know it that affects it, but, do you have a cure for me to try? Thanks
Definitely sounds like the mcor needs replacing. You can open up the floor, and pull the 2 wire connector off the mcor. Then take a paper clip, and bend it like a U. Then push the clip into the 2 holes in the loose connector, and try driving the cart, to see if it is any better
Was the 'groove' in the speed sensor actually 'carved out' of the inside speed sensor wall, or was it just discolored? The reason I ask, is that you have to ask yourself - What is rubbing on the wall to carve out the groove? Obviously, it's the round magnet that's rubbing against the wall. Which begs the question - Is putting on a new speed sensor the LONG TERM answer to the rubbing problem, or is the magnet just going to continue carving out another groove on the new sensor? To my way of thinking, there is something mis-aligned between the sensor 'cap' and the whirling/turning magnet that is allowing it to rub against the wall and carve out the groove.
Great video- I will subscribe. In reading the comments I see some similar to mine in that it stops abruptly while I'm accelerating, particularly while still cold and also if there are multiple riders. You've mentioned mcor pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is mcor? and do you think it's what I need? It goes slow (probably about 8 mph) which I don't mind because my grandkids love to drive it. Thanks for your help!
Mcor is the Motor Controller Output Regulator. It is what sends the voltage command from the pedal to the controller. It is the most common issue with club cars. You can tell by the hesitation you feel when stepping on the pedal. If your cart starts out fast, then immediately drops and stays at 8mph, then that indicates the speed sensor or magnet. Turn key on, put in forward, then get out and push the cart. If it starts to resist and slow down, and the reverse buzzer starts beeping, then the sensor is GOOD.
Hi Wayne. We were just given a 94 club car precedent the guy said it wouldn’t run it’s a really clean machine and I took the spark plug out and it was the blackest most carboned up spark plug I’ve ever seen even going across the electrode I cleaned it up and it fired right up. We are ecstatic. We took it around the neighborhood a few times and it blows a good amount of light blue smoke when we’re really on it but not much at idle. Do you think that’s buildup of carbon in the cylinder like we saw on the plug or do we have a different issue I should look into. The gas is likely old but I did clean the carburetor. Thank you for your channel and your time. Oh and it seems kinda slow, going to gps it tonight to see where the speed is at.
Ok, you do Not have a precedent, They didn't start making those till 2004. If you have a 94 then you have a DS model. And unfortunately I do not work on gas golf carts so I'm not much help sorry. You can contact David and revolution golf cars.com, And he can probably help you
Hello Wayne, I enjoy watching your videos, recently I start having issues with my 1997 Club Car DS I remove some pars to paint the body, after done with paint put everything back the way it was then the car do not go forward or reverse, not sure why doesn’t move anymore, before the paint was working without issues, can may be able to help? Thank you.
Goodmorning I have a 2000 48volt club car I just bought worked great when I purchased it just didn't drive it long enough for it to present the problem after about 5 ton10 minutes it's starts to slow down any help would be appreciated . It does have 2 year old batteries thanks
My 2008 club car goes for a few feet and stops. It does this in reverse as well. I put it up on Jack stands and discovered that it will run at low speed but when I increase the throttle it stops spinning the tires. I recently replace the MCOR. Any ideas, I have a speed sensor but what you describe here doesn't fit the carts behavior. Is there a speed brake jake break kind of thing on golf carts? What do you think.
Wayne, I have a 2018 club car precedent. The car hesitates, going forward, but in reverse it seems like it does fine. When going up a slight incline, the cart struggles. I measured the voltage in my batteries and there is five batteries that have 8 V exactly and one has 6.57 V. This is a 48 V system. I have charged the car several times, and nothing changes as far as the voltage on the batteries, is there a way to reset the charging system? Or do you think it’s a bad battery? By the way, I forgot to take it out of run mode and charge the batteries will that mess the charging system up?
The mode doesn't matter when charging. Your issue is the bad battery for sure. Also do not install just 1 new battery, either install all new or replace with a used battery.
Well done video. Any idea why my Yamaha G 16 E would intermittently stop accelerating? I just put a new motor in it. First few times I tried it would not move in reverse. Then It was fine for a few miles but now it will intermittently stop forward progress and I just coast to a stop. If I wait a few seconds and maybe flip it back to neutral and push the pedal a few times it will go again. Connections all seem good. I can hear the Oh I can hear the solenoid clicking when I press the pedal
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 well I hope not! Although I wouldn’t mind a little more speed. I just bought a new higher speed motor for this old Yammy and gained almost 4mph and good bit more torque. What controller do you recommend (if it’s the controller) and do you have any?
I have a 2002 club car 48v all new battery’s but when I put it in reverse it jerks some and even happens going forward sometimes. Any suggestions on what would cause that? Thank you
Good day Sir....recently watched this video which gave me great confidence that my cart has the same problem...but I just replaced the speed sensor and magnet....the problem remains. Holding the accelerator say mid way....the speed surges....never cutting out 100% but fluctuating at pretty steady intervals....every 3-4 seconds. Any recommendations sir?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 You're gentleman and a true professional! I just watched your video on replacing the mcor and I see where you figure 20 minutes to replace! Much MUCH appreciated! From McGregor, Ontario, Canada
Great video and always informative, I have a question, my 48v cart will go on forward just fine but it will below a fuse on reverse after like 10 seconds on running on reverse, it’s about the same speed with and without the speed sensor connected (cart is jacked) and checked all wires for short and couldn’t find any, lights and wipers work, reverse buzzer don’t work. It’s a Zone EV that’s very similar to 2013 TXT in build, I replaced the solenoid with a brand new one of the same that was on it (Curtis heaven duty) and it also has a Curtis sep excited controller, any help with the blown fuse issue I’d much appreciate it … thank you in advance
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 thank you for the replay, jacked meant off the the ground, It just blows the fuse when it’s going on return. I am suspected the solenoid as I am getting a code “main contactor open” I have a Curtis heavey duty solenoid, does it have to have diodes or resistors on it? What do you is causing the 10 amp fuse to pop
Ok first you should never run the motor at full speed when cart is jacked up, only quickly push on go pedal to engage the motor enough to spin, you will burn the motor up. Next, yes the solenoid should have a resistor and a diode on it. Reverse should be half speed, not full speed, so you may have something wired wrong.
Our club car that we just bought used has a speed issue from start. You put your foot barely on the gas and it burns rubber. Would that be this or theMCOR?
It could be, if cart used to run fine in forward. When you say slow, is it more than 8mph? If your reverse buzzer works, do the push test to see if the speed sensor is good.
Each club car controller has 4 codes programmed into it from the factory. With a scanner, the first 3 codes can be unlocked for free. You have to pay club car to get the unlock code for code 4.
I have a 2016 club car prec. When driving it on a flat road with the pedal all the way to the floor, I can feel slight speed fluctuations while driving. Have you seen this before? If so what is a possible remedy?? It’s a noticeable drop in speed and then it speeds back up.
Thanks to your video I fixed my cart by changing the Mccor module. The cart now suddenly stops while in motion just like I was applying the brakes I just push back on the pedal and goes back in motion, would a new feed sensor fix the problem?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 yes I did, the new Mcor fix the jerking. The sudden stop was doing it with my old Mcor 2 weeks before I received and change to the new one. Does the sudden stop related to the Mcor module?
When you say it stops, Are you saying it will lose all power? Or are you saying when you take your foot off the pedal the brake kicks in and slows down and eventually stopped Or are you saying when you take your foot off the pedal the brake kicks in and slows down and eventually stopped? If you lose all power, it could be a loose connection, a bad mcor , a bad forward reverse switch, a bad micro switch inside the M core, or brushes in the motor, or even the controller.
Is there a way to get a speed code changed to 4 or 5 without going to a dealer? Or could I put a newer speed magnet on the cart to increase speed. Cart currently goes about 13-14mph and wanting to get to around 18-20mph. Thanks for help love the videos
If you have a club car, usually newer than about 2001, the controller was programmed at the factory, with 4 speed codes. Anyone with the correct type of scanner, could unlock or change between the first 3 speeds. To get to code 4 , which is 19.6 mph, you need to pay club car, for the code 4 code. Once you have that level 4 code, then with the correct scanner, the controller can be unlocked and cart should then go 19.6. Certain types of motors, on certain models of club cars, you can change the magnet to get more speed.
I replaced the speed sensor in my 2013 club car precedent and it still bucks when I first start to drive off, also seems like if I go at the slightest incline it's slower? Never was like that before?Any ideas
Not all ds carts have speed sensors. If your does, the only difference in changing that from changing a sensor on a precedent, is the the GE sensor is flat and is not screwed in, you just pry it out with a screw driver, and remove the 1 screw that is clipping the wires.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 thank you for the info it is greatly appreciated! Does the motor need to be out of the cart to also change the magnet? Or is it possible to do with the motor still in the cart?
Hey Wayne hope all is well, I watched your video on the speed sensor and thought maybe that was my problem but I don't have that I believe you called it a top hat sensor. Do you have a video on the other kind of sensor. That's question number one, question number two is in watching some other videos a guy disconnected his solenoid that has the big resistor coil on it it's like 5 in diameter Maybe six Loops or so. According to him if that solenoid goes bad that coil gets hot as hell. Well I just moved my golf cart no more than 30 ft and that coil was hot as hell, to where I couldn't keep my hand on it. I trust you way more than the other guy especially since he just bypassed that solenoid. So I'm wondering if there's another video of yours that I can watch so far I haven't seen one. All your help is greatly appreciated thank you in advance. Larry
First off, do you have 3 wires sticking out of the end of your motor? Next, do you have 2 solenoids? For some reason you did not tell me what year your car is , which would have helped, instead of making me guess. You also did not say whether or not you have a problem, just that you can't touch a part that is hot?? Does your cart run or not?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 hi Wayne sorry about my mishap. I do have three wires coming out of the end of the motor. I'm not sure about the two solenoids definitely one in the center there's a it looks like a solid state box and to the left there may be a second solenoid with a big coiled up wire attached. The golf cart really is not running at all in reverse, when I moved it forward it only went about 15 ft very slowly I tried to back down the grade and had to have it pushed. I'm going to try to attach a picture but don't know if that'll work. Also I believe it's an 01 golf cart based on the warning label on the dashboard. There's a number that ends with a dash 01. The serial number is A 9829. 67618
Hi Wayne it's Larry again attaching the photos didn't work on RU-vid. Do you have an email, or a number I can text to? Want you to know all your help is greatly appreciated. You're a saint
Wayne, I have a 2016 club car that I just bought a couple of months ago. Since then it has started to act up a bit. When I accelerate, sometimes, the cart will kind of skip or jerk and get slower. The cart has a speed magnet and has top speed of 20 mph. Any thoughts on what may be going on? Thanks!
You need a working reverse buzzer in order to check out the sensor. Turn the key on, put the cart in forward, release the brake, then try pushing the cart about 8 feet, does the reverse buzzer start beeping? If so, then sensor is good.
All carts are gonna slow going up a hill. If yours is so slow it bearly makes it, it could be too much weight, older or weak batteries, big tires making controller work too hard, or your controller is not big enough.
Hi my cart works great however, when I put my lights on and push the accelerator the lights go out . When I take my foot off the accelerator the lights come back on. What could be the problem. This only happens when driving the crt. with the power on.
Will a faulty speed sensor cause the cart to run significantly slower on an uphill grade? Seems to work fine on flat and downhill surfaces, but drops significantly on even a minor uphill grade.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Thanks! So, even though there is no jerking and the batteries are relatively new, you'd lean towards the MCOR being the culprit? Is there anything else to look for or test? Great videos!
Under load, the cart is trying to pull or push more amps through the system. Club cars have something I will call a governor, that kicks in when going down hills and won't allow it to go more than 11-14 mph, until motor catches up with the demand. Going up hill , the motor demand might be more than the controller can process .
Have no info on what cart you are talking about. But if your cart went faster before you changed tires, now is slower, that could me. Sorry not enough info given.
I Wayne I am a new subscriber I had a question for you. I have an older model easy go When I try to go up a Hill it goes down to like one miles an hour. What would you Suggest is the problem. Thank you in advance
Always look at the batteries first. You may have a weak or bad one. You need to fully charge them, then hook a voltage tester to each individual battery, 1 at a time while going up hill. Do this first
The speed sensor is the 3 wires that are hanging out from the end of the motor. These 3 wires will go to a gray colored connector that you can unplug from the connector. Hey Elton, I hope you are healthy and well my friend. 👍
I own a 1997 Club Car DS and I just replaced one of the solenoids. It still will not move. I am at a loss on what else to replace. I see another solenoid that was right next to the solenoid that is mounted up and down. this other solenoid seems to lay vertical. I am not sure what needs to be replaced.
You need to get a voltage tester and start at the batteries, thru the key switch, thru pedal etc, to the solenoid, and see if you have voltage going thru the solenoid.
I have a question, my 97 club car ds is fast on the flats and slow going up hills. I have new batteries so that’s not the issue. I live in bc and there are no mechanics near me, any idea what that might be? Thanks Ray
Wayne, love the videos. I have a 2008 Club Car DS that was modified to street legal 20+mph in 2014. I installed a lithium battery, on-board charger, and 12v converter. Since installation, all accessories work, but the cart won't move. The OBC was removed and blue/white wires on harness were butt connected. The solenoid does not click when the pedal is depressed. Replaced the solenoid and still no click. Not sure what to do. I have a Curtis 1510A-2150 controller. I check all inputs to the controller and they read 53 volts. Any recommendations?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 I have voltage at the solenoid and MCOR clicks when I move pedal. All voltage inputs to the controller were tested and measured battery voltage. I even put a new MCOR and solenoid with same result.
The mcor will click anytime you step on it, doesn't mean you have voltage there. So if you put your volt meter leads both on the solenoid small terminals, and turn key on, in forward, when you step on go pedal do you have 48 volts on these 2 small terminals?
Your problem is you are not getting a negative to the solenoid. I bet if you run a temporary jumper wire from that small solenoid negative tab to the main battery pack negative, the cart will move.
Great video Wayne! I have a 2007 club car ds and when I'm going down a steep hill the cart will go faster than it is supposed to and then all of a sudden it seems like the speed sensor will engage and the wheels lock up for a brief second and then the speed sensor starts working. Have you seen anything like this and do you have a recommendation?
There is somewhat of a "governor " on your cart, so when you go down hill, the cart will slow down , to keep the speed from going to fast, then once it slows to the programmed speed, the accelerator will kick back in. This is normal for a club car, and is not the speed sensor.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Thanks thanks thanks for the info. It is a little shocking when it does it because it throws you forward for a second before reengaging. Now I have a winding whistling noise coming from my rear axle area when I drive it. I had someone look at it because I thought it might be the bearings, but he checked them and they seem fine. You wouldnt happen to have had this happen in your travels, would you?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Wayne, Just one more question on this rear axle. The rech working on my cart wants to put a different rear axle in my cart for $350. If its not the bearings (he said they look fine) should I have him replace the axle? Thank you again for taking the time. You are a blessing!
I’ve got a pq club car with the flat speed sensor that starts fast then slows to half speed at around 7mph. Rolls forward with no braking or buzzing. Replaced the speed sensor but I have no change, still half speed and no rollaway braking. Any thoughts?
I have replaced my Controler, as my cart just stopped that has made it run again , but my speed is very slow like 5 or 6 mph, I have installed a new speed sensor, it hardly made any difference. Any Ideas?
my precedent has 22in tires an has dropped down to 11 mph does that sound like this could be the issue.....I also have a plumquick bandit motor.....my normal top speed is 25
Only of reverse buzzer works, tow switch in run, in forward, key on, brake off, push cart about 8 feet and see if cart resists and if buzzer stats beeping
Mr Wayne I have a 2006 ds iq club car 48 volt. The car will take off fine then it stops abruptly. Let off gas pedal and starts off fine . Top speed is good just abruptly stops. Usually you here 3 beeps. Battery's brand new connection on them good. Help please.
I noticed the speed sensor does not have a seal. While I cannot prove it true or not, without a seal, moisture and fine debris can find a way to get inside. Hall sensors are solid state devices, and they should not simply "go bad". What is likely the cause is dirt, moisture is getting inside that sensor housing because there is no seal. And that would cause problems with the sensor picking up a proper signal at all the RPM ranges of the magnet. Rather than replacing this sensor, I would try to blow out (low pressure compressed air to be safe) any debris, squirt some contact cleaner (WD makes a good one for cheap that is also applicable to MAF sensors of ICE engines!), and then put the sensor back in and test it out. If it works, that is the root cause of the problems...just dirt or moisture or debris under that sensor and around the magnet. If it does work after cleaning it, I would apply some RTV silicone gasket sealer all the way the facing surfaces, but lightly so it does not goop up inside the sensor magnet space! This would prevent future water and dirt from entering and that should take care of it. I do lots of field repairs on a wide range of equipment. preventative maintenance keeps my gear running in top shape. The lack of a seal for that sensor is probably the reason for "sensor failure"...or it could be a bad sensor from a bad design where the hall effect sensor was not engineered for durability and long life. (which tends to be common with equipment manufacturers these days..sigh). When I do preventative maintenance, I look at every possible way to protect sensors from getting fouled. This looks like a good candidate to try that out rather than just slapping in a new sensor. jmho
You need a scanner to tell that. But if your carr is going no faster than 11 moh, it's speed 1, no faster than 14, that's 2, code 3 should get you to about 17, code 4 to 19.6.
Thank you! Mine does that too (runs at half normal speed) but also comes to a dead stop about every 5 minutes or less. I let off the accelerator completely then immediately apply power, it goes but only at half power. It never gets above half speed. 48 volt system. Thanks again! Speed sensor?

@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 that's what I'm guessing. This is my first golf cart and the guy i purchased it from said he just replaced the batteries and it goes slow in forward and fast in reverse. This is a learning process for me. Never done this before.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Thanks for getting back to me, no it doesnt have a row of solinoids it has a resister coil looking spring, with several cables hooked to it from the what I think is the potentiometer , the batteries are 1 year old and fully charged. The cart has always been slow, now it only moves a little then stops, reverse is a little better than forward. What should I check first?
send me a picture of the entire battery area, so I can see all batteries, and wires and stuff. Also give me a close up of the date code on the batteries. Text them to me at 760 393 1314.
Gary, some did, and some didn't have them, depends on the electronics on your cart. Look under the cart, from passenger side, behind the rear tire. See if there is 3 wires coming out the END of the motor. The 3 wires are small and are black, red, and green. There are also 2 types of sensors, one is a flat discount that is recessed in the end of the motor, and the other is a top hat looking one, like the one in my video.

Wayne, I have a 05 club car electric cart. It was running great then …. Unplugged charger and put in reverse, drove 4 feet shuttered slightly then stopped. Can hear pedal solenoid click and hear the solenoid between batteries as well. "??
Check batteries first. You may have 1 or more that are bad. Verify the voltage of each battery, before charging and during charging, and tell me those numbers, then we can go from there. Since you didn't say what model cart you have, I will guess that it is a ds.
Andy, sorry I can't figure out what you are saying or telling me with your last words ?? Also, you can't have exactly 12 volts, there has to be a decimal point in the readings, like 12.6, 11.7, etc. And I asked for individual battery numbers.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 I'm sorry, I only have an analog cheapo voltmeter. I read each battery charging and not charging at 12v. I will buy a digital one and get you better readings
I would look at the mcor first. Try turning key off, then stomp the go pedal up and down to the floor, about 10 times. Then drive cart, and see if it temporarily improves. I would guess mcor.
2010 48 volt stops abruptly and brakes then if I turn key off and on a couple of times it goes again for a short time the stops again. Battiers show góod charge
My problem is that my speedometer is register a higher speed then I am actually going. It starts reading at about 12mph. It all started when I try changing the clock after replacing the battery. What is the fix?
Ramon, sorry I can't help with your clock, I know nothing about what you have, etc. If it was working fine before you changed the battery to it, I would think the fix is in the settings somewhere.
If anyone can help me, I have a easy golf cart, And my problem is the golf cart pretty much dies when it hits 70%. I can run it for about 20 to 30 minutes.... It can get up to 19-21miles an hour But Quickly loses power around low 80%. I tested the batteries under a load and they seem to be fine there at 5.9. What else could be wrong?!? Please help!
Sounds like the batteries are weak. The only other thing that I see maybe possible is the controller may be overheating, but i think it's the batteries, sorry.
