Instead of using AP2 oem clutch fluid line with the AP1 clutch cylinder (which you explained does not fit), could you just use a aftermarket clutch fluid line? Most aftermarket clutch fluid line is for both AP1 and AP2 so should work fine.

Any idea if the ap1 Spoon clutch-hose is compatible with an ap1 master, but on an ap2?

Thanks for posting this! I’ve wondered at times whether the stutter was due to poor driving on my part. Next time I service my clutch fluid, I think I’ll remove it.

I wonder if J’s Racing Clutch Slave Cylinder for the AP2 has no clutch delay valve in it since I installed the J’s Slave Cylinder in March. I’ll test drive my AP2 tomorrow.

Does this clutch-delay-valve make it more difficult to smoothly engage the clutch from a dead stop? As my 2007 S2000 gets older (I have had it since new in 2007), I find it becoming very difficult to engage my clutch smoothly from a dead stop. This is on top of my worsening-yet-typical S2000 "tip in stumble" that I see people talking about everywhere, with no one declaring a definitive solution. (Yes, I know about all of the things people have tried, but I don't see anybody declaring an absolute guaranteed solution). I have another manual transmission car (a 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S) and its clutch is silky smooth with none of the S2000 annoying clutch characteristics. I would remove this clutch delay valve IF I could hear that doing so makes clutch engagement markedly smoother. Thank you for making this informative video.

I don’t see how it could have anything to do with engagement when starting from a dead stop. It only really impacts the depressing the pedal when it’s done really really fast

DIYGuys Thank you very much. That’s incredibly helpful. I never “shift very fast“, so that’s not an issue for me at all. Now I have to admit to myself that my clutch is simply worn out, and needs replacing after nearly 14 years of in-town driving. I have to get up the nerve to replace my clutch myself in my home garage. The DIY articles I’ve seen about that procedure are quite daunting. But I’m also convinced that doing it myself is the only way I can be sure every single detail of clutch replacement is done meticulously, cleanly, comprehensively and carefully. Once again, thank you for your informative videos.

So taking the delay valve, would cause the diff to blow when dumping the clutch at a dig?

I would say I input shaft bearing would go quicker than the diff.

I'm going to soon be installing a street lite flywheel with the h021 hardened pressure plate. I learned to drive with the cdv and can feel it if I up shift too fast sometimes Isn't it better to keep for safety? What is your opinion

I would recommend removing it if you track/race your car. Otherwise not worth it for the street.

I'd the CDV is designed to baby the diff from hard engagement, should someone like me who has gone FI leave it in if I haven't done any modification to the diff? I never launch the car, and don't track it, but I do shift hard for the rest of the gearbox when getting to speed.

I'm also forced induction, I chose to leave mine in as a precaution to save the diff and gearbox. to me it makes sense with the increase in power.

My Rio has a clutch delay valve. If I shift up quickly without a pause, they will get kicked. This valve gives some delay in shifting (prevents the clutch disc from being pressed against the flywheel quickly and harshly, as can be done with a pedal), especially from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3, but makes all non-sports shifts smooth too. New BMWs for example G82 also have this valve.

Need to murder this part on my TL. 2nd-3rd shifts can't happen at high RPM because the clutch never hooks up.

clutch delay valve is there to remove drive line shock and breakage. the higher hp you get the better and safer to launched your car on the track with a delay valve especially with a twin disc clutch. its actually nicer and easier to drive them on the street than without.

BMW does this to its cars too and it’s super annoying. They must think it’s drivers need that “nanny” to tuck them in at night too, lol
