The M1911A1 from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) came with a GI replacement slide. With production of complete 1911 pistols for the US military stopped after World War II, a replacement slide refers to any slide manufactured post war and mated to a WW2 or prior frame. With improvements in metallurgy and heat treating processes, these slides are generally more durable than original slides and have a longer expected service life. While they may be less collectable than WW2 or prior dated slides, the replacement slides are better if you intend on shooting your CMP 1911.

That gives the pistol a subtle two-tone finish. Very nice looking.

My personal 1911 clone was built on a new Para Ordnance P14 frame but I obtained a replacement slide from a parts dealer who specialized in 1911 parts, it was marked "Remington". The slide was in new condition and the final outcome was a fantastic look between the silver colored frame with the parkerized slide. Custom fitted a barrel and link to match the slide with a nice tight bushing for better accuracy. I did not do the beaver tail safety since I was going for a somewhat original look with the high capacity frame.

I had been collecting an OEM WW-I and WW-II slide for many years. Back in 1990 the OEM M-1911 and M-1911 A1 colt Remington Rand and Itica slide were much cheaper to obtain. I had brought Colt and Remington M-1911 in original shape. I have no explanation why I keep collecting these ite,s.

I like slides, too. If I can't buy the pistols, at least I can get something from it. The Springfield (US Government), the Savage, and the Remington UMC slides are very cool with their markings. Do you have them?
