The grandmother wanted to force her values and interest on the girl. She had other things she wanted to do rather than learn her mother tongue. And yes, this had been happening for generations, older women putting pressure on younger women to follow their value system. Patriarchy is not only about men controlling women, but also women deciding for other women what they should do, study, focus on, behave, dress (the grandmother criticised her dress) etc. It's about imposing your values on another person. So how exactly did you "factually owned" me?
