I have built the CNC Router Parts 4x8 Pro Kit. I started by building the base with six legs and the table all made out of 80/20 aluminum extrusion. Then I built the gantry which runs on linear rails along the sides of the table. I attached the z-axis to the gantry and attached all of the motors and wired everything up. After a little fiddling with Mach3, it seems to work. I finished up by working on the table which is a ¾ inch thick piece of MDF.

I saw CNC Router Parts' (now Avid CNC) 'Tested' video, then I saw yours and Rainfall Projects' videos and decided to check them out. That started a year ago for me. I picked my CNC machine up yesterday, Sept. 9th, 2019. I drove up and picked it up, but I only had a little hatchback so it took 2 trips. Fortunately, I live only 25 miles away from them. Now, I get the fun job of assembly. Thank you for the content you provide, enjoy your projects and look forward to more.

one thing on spindles for ya: most of em are oil filled, so you'll need to run a warmup routine to get the oil around. also, VFD controlled spindles don't bog down, so if it hits something hard (like a screw), the VFD will simply ramp up the spindle so it stays at a constant speed. So be on the lookout for stuff like that. one more thing, MDF is actually pourus enough that you can pull a vacuum (shop vac) through it. It's enough to hold down pcs, but not enough that it loses suction when open. Consider that when using your vacuum table. ps. KentCNC does a split dust shoe for cnc routers. I'd recommend that for this machine!

Just a quick word of advice, you might want to go back and re-tighten those bolts after a few weeks. Alternately, you might try using a little dab of loc-tite or threadlocker on them. You'll have a lot of vibration in this machine and steel bolts in aluminum extrusion can loosen over time.

This is probably what I should have done, but 2 years back I went for an industrial machine, and now I just build hobby type of stuff on it. I love your vertical table on the old machine and am glad to hear you are putting it back. I wish I could easily do that on my machine. Only thing I would have gotten for it is a longer gantry. I have a on table 4th axis and every time I use it I wish it was off to the side and the fourth axis had its own height control

Love the 80/20 extrusions, I've built several project with it. I built a wire cart that held 40 1000ft spools of wire, don't know how much it weighed but it moved effortlessly and didn't sag. Building with it makes you think from the inside out, forgetting hardware or mounts is a PITA!

I realized after watching the last CNC build and a few other things, Frank has never told me to be sure to "like and subscribe, and hit that notification Bell." This is one of the few channels I subscribe to, I guess because he loves his job. Not just woodworking, but filming. Other channels constantly feel like they have filler, many times explaining what's up on there channel, but ignoring the projects they are working on.

Important is the side rails and making the whole machine True and level before tightening the cross members I have a couple short videos that may help. remember, The cross-members have a common nut which means they MUST be tightened a little at a time or tightening with a gun will loosen the opposite bolt. I like all the work you did on the video

Nice Frank, I got my electrical parts from them (5 yrs ago). still runs great not rack driven lead screws 5'x 45' and accurate. That one will be fast......... great spindle too...

That looks really great, I work with that extrusion sometimes in my day job, Its nice and simple, Its used on conveyors and lifts, but that cnc is a beast, I have been thinking of getting a cnc or building my own smaller version. I thought is that i can quickly lengthen the height of the gantry for more room if i need to. and the length of the movement of the z will be already in place.

I have to do the same decision and its really difficult. Sell my first homemade CNC or keep upgrading it? It works very well and reliably, but I don´t think I am going to get a lot of money for a homemade CNC. My second CNC would be sooo much better though!

Great video! They should really have mounted the Z-Nema 34 on the backside of the Z-assembly. Seems strange to put that much weight on the top of that arm. Moving the stepper could also give better strength and precision with a geared pulley setup.

Very nice! I'm sad to see your homemade one go, though. One quick learning opportunity here: the gears you used on the motors are called timing pulleys, where the belts are called timing belts. The profile of the teeth is slightly different than that of a standard gear. I don't mean to be nitpickey, but I just felt like sharing. Awesome machine, I'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it!
