I saw an excellent video by Tompas11 - he made some really nice looking boring bars and I decided to make a similar one! The result came out pretty good I'd say and it looks very spiffy.
I made the boring bar out of 16mm A36 construction steel/ S275J for us europeans. Inserts I will be using are TPG ones.

I think you would have got a few comments if you had set this up on a rotary table like most of us would or even a swivel based vice....then you can angle the 2 cuts to get the pocket.......I might give this a try.
