second ago · Shared publicly Having been mairried to Roger for 38 years I can say that he opened this channel for a hobby and as a result receives numerous emails from people globally asking advice on CNC routers and often personal advice on programs not to mention other emails requesting advice in general which he willingly gives. Please just take a moment and read the following : Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and error can one be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved! Let him enjoy his hobby without the negative nonsense! Constructive critisism is always helpful for not only Roger but other viewers. Trolls take delight in waking up in the mornings to see who and how they can offend. Nothing like keyboard warriors! Very brave folk hidden behind their keyboards! Continue enjoying what you are doing Roger!

He posted it with the title "55: CNC router turning a $0.10 log into *$7000*" How many of those do you run through the machine before you chew up a pricey carbide bit? What is his time worth? Now you see another problem with youtube besides negativity...misleading clickbait!

I have watched so many videos on CNC woodcarvings and Roger is the only one that I have found that takes his time to explain every step by step. Roger is an inspiration to those that want to learn and want to try different hobby's. He could have said if you want my advice or my information on how to do this complex hobby please go to my "pay to learn" button. Roger doesn't do that. I thank him for that. where can you get free education to learn or be inspired to want to learn about CNC woodcarving. Like his wife Maria Webb said leave the nonsense out of it. Roger thank you so much and god bless you. I am looking into get a CNC woodcarving machine next year. by god i will do every thing i can to pick his brain on just about every thing.

I go see the old timers that still do such work by hand and i showed them your vid they think your way of doing it is grate and they all thought your work was truly nice i had asked them all if they would ever give a CNC a go and was told no it took a life time to learn how to craft such things by hand and most of these men had been taught by their fathers or grandfathers and only believe in the old ways lol. I do understand that there will be people out there making comments like it's giving anyone with no real talent to make something as easy as the flip of a switch but if it does not bother men who have been doing it by hand for over *) and (0 years then it shouldn't bother anyone so good work Sir it is a nice piece.

Roger Webb I just hate to see the bit chopping away at so much material. It works, but does it wear out the bit?
@AU519940545
@AU519940545 10 лет назад
Riano Kan I'm a CNC machinist (steel/aluminum/brass and all that) and the chip load on this router is so low even at the speeds he's running. I could use a 2 flute endmill at about the same speeds and feeds as it looks like his roughing tool was going but on aluminum and it'd still be fine. The hardness of the material he's cutting (wood) is so low that it would take forever for that endmill/router to dull, even break. I bet he could take off as much as .375" per pass and still be golden. May not be pretty but who cares, it's a roughing pass.

Actually, this would save a lot of time roughing out a carving, similar to using a band saw to remove most of the waste material. After the roughing, a hand carver can get to the finer details. It makes sense to machine wood the way a machinist shapes metals. I like this very much!

The whole world’s a critic , Never seen a statue erected to memorialize one yet... It’s amazing how many lazy bums come out of the wood work to try to piss on another creative use of materials, if you don’t like it, fine, to each his own , but others might be inspired.

Not to complain, but he has a point. How about a regular handsaw or hatchet to take off those first 2 inches? A good old fashioned planer? Alot of overkill here to carve a free piece of wood. This is not some precious 1000 year old African rainforest block. The research value of these projects has gone, point made. We know things can be carved .Now let's do it for profit or not at all.

Kodiax56 not really, is it apples in the canned jar that is labeled as apples or is it oranges. It is labeled as $0.80 log into $8,000. Is that not incorrect, does that not falsely bring in people hoping to see that some how this 80 cent log turned got turned into a large profit? Well guess what, there is no hate. There is mislabeling to get a large amount of views. There is just bad grammar as well as punctuation. If you can fix that then maybe somehow somebody may listen to see if you have a valid argument. Think with your mind before speaking to me rather than attempting to think with the thin air that you currently have in your head. @Garfield100 7 лет назад
single bone Fair enough. Let's not use this specific piece as an example, because I too don't think it looks very nice. But just imagine an artist made the model on a computer (not as easy as it sounds) and just let the cnc do the dirty work. Usually there's still some cleaning up to do afterwards anyway. But then again, many things in my opinion are a form of art. Computer games, for example, or even programming in general are art in my opinion,
@singlebone

well i sayd befor your art understanding its different then mine and its fine, just for me stuff made with cnc cant be called art, because u need to understand how hard to make it all with your hands because only then u will appreciate it. trust me i know because when i was in school i did all from wood to by my hands and u look at it different then to one made with cnc,

Wow, so much hate. It's like the "artists" in the crowd feel like Roger is stealing food off of their tables! Look, artists, what's the difference between using a computer software as a medium (paint programs, 3D graphic software, etc) vs any other kinds of medium!? I've seen old car part sculptures that guys with a welder stick together in a particular shape that approximates something in the real world and nobody has a problem calling it "art". They didn't MAKE the car parts, they didn't design the fasteners or the welder used to stick it together and yet it's art! What if Roger takes 40 hours to painstakingly design an intricate 3D model and then spends another 10 setting the machine and software up to cut it out? He's suddenly just a hack because HIS medium of choice is something you don't understand and produces the model with machine accuracy? The only difference in my mind is the technology used to create the output. A sculptor can reproduce as many wax models as he/she cares to mold and then crank them out at the foundry. It just takes longer but it's no different other than being performed completely in the physical world. The "artist" that creates the wax model rarely ever creates the actual metal output. That task is performed by skilled technicians that understand metal molding in a foundry... just another technology designed to mass-produce items. Does that fact make them NOT artists simply because they didn't sit there and carve the metal statue out of bronze? Give the man a break. Nice work Roger, ignore those wankers.

I used to hand carve briar wood using knives and scalpels . . . you had to 'find the art' within each block and it took a long time and much effort, but the end result was ART. And with that flaw inside the log, he only ended up with a fancy block of firewood . . . I'm waiting for him to varnish the piece and video the drying process, which will be eminently more entertaining.

By stating that you weren't impressed, because of his method & perceived end-game, you have passed judgement. He owns a machine that creates designs in wood. It appears to make him happy. He wasn't giving a lecture on the pro's & con's of automated vs. hand-carved wood, nor was he trashing the hand-made method. He also took the time to make a video, and share it. That's impressive. What did you say you did that day? Oh, yeah... nothing.

what a waste of lumber, and a whole lot of saw dust for nothing... you should have cut the log in half, saved a lot of time and effort, thus increasing profits and productivity, you would have two pieces of wood to work with instead of one! plus now people know, when they say something is hand carved = they are lying! a fine example of what NOT to do, recorded on video for all the world to see!
