Thank you for clearing that up. I have been messing with those settings and wasn’t really sure if I was doing it right and according to your video I was not lol.

I am glad that helped. Adding the last pass really makes a difference when it comes to the finish so it helps.

I am going to try the final pass on a pocket cut but add a bowl bit for doing the rounded inside corner as the second tool. As soon as I saw this I figured it would work for that vs creating another tool path. Thanks for the info.

Thanks. I am glad this was helpful in explaining that. Hope your project goes well!

If you want to do a final pass with a bowl bit you have to offset the ruffing pass far enough to leave material for the bottom radius of that bit.

So if I have several toolpaths of let's say 3mm I can save them togever as one file and let it run? Can and will be useful :) thank you

Yes if they are the same tool you can run them all together in one file. Saves lots of time.

That was helpful, subscribed, thank you! Was wondering, can u do an extra final pass for a 3d relief setup? New to carveco and trying to figure out how to add 3rd toolpath to the 2 that you get from the 3d relief tooltpath setup?

I am glad that one helped. If you create another 3d toolpath with just a finishing pass you can use a different tool to go back over the carving just run it 3rd. If you only want it to do certain areas then draw vectors around those areas and then use selected vector option in the 3rd toolpath. Hope this helps.

Rest machining should do that.

If I'm following correctly, you use a negative allowance on a profile cut and a positive allowance on a pocket? Then, during the finishing cut the tool gets to the final dimension, either external or internal? You're not taking off a little bit more in the finish cut so the piece is slightly off, dimensionally? I would have to say that the sign convention is a bit counterintuitive. I would have assumed the software would manage the allowance depending on the operation. I would not have thought to use a negative allowance on a profile cut. Thanks for explaining this.

The last pass allowance will step out that amount until it gets down to the last pass and then step in the allowance distance to get your actual size. So the first few cuts are actually the distance outwards of the allowance you set. Depending on if you are inside or outside of the vector will determine if you need to use a negative or positive allowance to make it work in the right direction.

Excellent. That's how I interpreted your video and I can accept that's how it will work. It wasn't intuitive, so I'm glad you took the time to create this video. I really want to add finishing passes to my projects and now have more confidence on how to do it. Thank you.@@Timberfalls

Great video. Can you show a few use cases for this? For example, how to use this with an area clearance to save on sanding time.

This video addition is a great idea and is something I will defiantly add to the video list.

Does this work when doing a profile pass with bridges?
@Timberfalls
@Timberfalls 5 месяцев назад
Yes it will add the bridges to the final pass moves so that it does not come out.
