May i know why do we use a kick board for kicking practise instead of just going without kickboard? Since kickboard does not really promote actual streamlining for most people. Or unless there are certain perks to use kickboard? Such as it limiting too much body rotation? Or it forces / teaches to tightnen core and lengthening of core and lats? Etc?
My trainer has asked me to have my head up from the water while using the kick board. This makes it really difficult for me as lifting up my head causes my legs to sink and my lower back starts hurting after a while since I am trying hard to prevent my legs from sinking. What should I do? PS I have another problem and that is while practicing freestyle. When I inhale air,my entire body floats perfectly on the surface. However, when I start exhaling,as soon as the air in my lungs drop below 50%,I start sinking towards the bottom(legs first). In every video,I see that swimmers exhale all the air while their face is in the water and still they don't sink. But I start sinking as soon as the air level in my lungs drop below 50%.This makes it impossible for me to get my head out of the water to take a breath since my heads gets far below the water surface. Please help!I am desperately trying to learn freestyle but I keep sinking while exhaling.
wildglory1497 same exact thing happens to me! My trainer's at the YMCA and I'm starting to thick she's a naturally gifted swimmer and not that great at instructing. I'm going to try the techniques from Coach Robb's videos!
It gets better with time...It has been around 2 months since I started swimming and now I can cover the length of the pool(25m).My technique is not flawless but once you get a hang of it, it becomes easier...Just keep at it.
@@CoachRobbBeams for beginners how many laps do you advise to start? Is my first time trying this and has been a while since I work out but getting my first start today🙂
@@tica506 I find down and back is plenty. Then swim down and back freestyle to open up your hips again. Repeat 3-4x. Foam roll your hip flexors when you get back home as well as your lower back. Keep me posted!
@@CoachRobbBeams I just started swimming yesterday after years away from swimming and I used to be a Red Cross swimming instructor! So far, I only can go about 1/3 the distance of the pool free style and I get cramps in my legs from using kick board. I figure its going to take a long time for me to become comfortable in the water again and to regain what I used to have (or close to it), My goal is to be able to swim like a 45 year old and I am 68! I keep watching several videos so hope they will help if I keep at it!
I am 60 and just unable to do even 2-3 kicks with the kickboard and loosing my confidence. I feel I am in retro mode😔. I almost drowned last week as the kickboard slipped out of my hand. I literally press the kickboard down which is incorrect. Help I may give up this persists😔 Where can I share my video
Thank you for watching and commenting! The first thing to look at is your ankle flexibility - while sitting in a chair, see if you can point your toes away from you (be careful that you calf muscle doesn't cramp - you might want to foam roll them prior to attempting this). If you are "kicking" and you literally move backwards, it is the lack of ankle flexibility. Give this a try and leave me a comment. We WILL get this figured out for you.
@@CoachRobbBeams I am able to point my toes with ease. I am a regular yoga practitioner. Just a clarification, I don't move backward. I don't move forward😔.
