Chamber Music America 2023 National Conference
January 7, 2023
ACMP Board Secretary and Grants Committee Chair Susan Alexander moderates this session examining the unique dynamic between amateur and professional musicians by bringing them into conversation. The aim of the discussion is to give professional musicians a deeper understanding of who amateurs are, what motivates them, and how engaging with them can enhance a professional musician’s portfolio. Seasoned amateur chamber musicians Paris Brann Milane and Karl Irikura share their experiences and insights on best practices for working with amateur chamber musicians, and long-time chamber music coach and former Executive Director of Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music weighs in from the professional coach perspective. The panel discussion explores new ideas on coaching adult amateurs that inspire musical independence while developing steadfast audiences for present and future performances.
Presented by Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP)
