Was listening to Jimmy earlier and thought to myself I wonder when we'll see David again. Fantastic build, good pace and glad to see you're still uploading!
hey man.ive watched your channel for years now.your one of my role models.i strive to be more like you.thanks for being there for me and us.keep up the good work David.
Nice !!!! Funny part was your hand going thru the hole in the top when you were putting it on the base, twice !! Looked like something I would do. Great build & video. Love Ya Man !!
You did an amazingly good job on both the design and build. I just built one very much like yours but with a square fire pot. My first 2 forges used much the same kind of grate like you have and I was constantly burning them up once we got into using them regularly, not to mention it was driving me crazy to have to pull the fire apart about every 45 min to get the clinker out to keep them from stopping up the airflow. I recntly built a clinker breaker by drilling a 1/4 in hole on either side of the very top of my tryre and using a 1/4 in rod hung several triangles of 1 in plate with set screw holes drilled and tapped on the bottom side. The holes were driller to allow the triangles to just rise above the level of the bottom of the firepot. I then tacked a couple of lengths of 3/8 rod on the top sides spanning the 3 triangles level with the bottom of the fireppt to make a very effective clinker breaker. Now when the fire takes more and more air to keep the heat up I just twist the handle of the 1/4 in rod a couple of times to clear the airflow and it's like I just started the fire. I didn't have the clinker problem as bad until I swapped to coal from charcoal but now I am not constantly shoveling in fuel to forge. Fix one problem and then get another to fix bit that is the fun of blacksmithing I have found.
Was just thinking about ya this past week. Hope things are going good and you're keeping warm out there. Always enjoy seeing a new video from you David.
Thank you David. Awesome video again. very helpful and nicely produced. Everything what you need to know to build coal forge without single BS. Who need BG music and annoying narration without anything to say. I will copy your plans and make forge like that :)
Nice one, is the shelf underneath for warming up your lunch? the extra room for activities on top is the way to go, think I'll add something similar to my brake drum forge.
Good stuff brother! Those leveling feet, the brackets to secure the bowl section to the table, those DIY solutions are my favorite! 👍🏻 Was the whole build made with repurposed objects or were there components specifically for a coal forge?
