Yep good radio. I have one I would like to send you but first the 138XLR needs a refresh before I send the Grant XL. None of my gear needs trouble shooting or repair just caps and alignment. That is why I am trying to keep all of my old radio's working with maintenance so they do not need to be trouble shoot and repaired. Old SSB CB's have fantastic recieve on the band they are intended to operate on. Often better receive than actual amature gear when used on 11m band. All good stuff! Gotta love it!

That radio was covering more frequencies, all at once, than the splatter mouths on superbowl 6. Tuned out great. Nice job. Some time ago, you said I was welcome to come down and help out anytime. The invite and implication was not lost on me. I just did not know how to reply. Health issues are keeping me home bound. Hope 577 can come help you out. I am saddened that I cannot. 😑🦗
Great radio they are talkers, Nice job on it, I use the tripp lite isobars, they are what the hospitals use to protect equipment. So far works with no problems.
I use an isobar for my main bench equipment and all has been good. Tried the smps in it and didn't make a difference. I'm still working the bugs out of it. I really wanted to find a bigger astron style supply but no such luck yet. 😕
@@TheRadioGarage You already have a new supply but I have been using the powermax 100amp supply you can find them on Amazon, it has been great. Also it helps if you have a battery or super capacitor like the xs power they aren't cheap I know but they work. With the supply connected to it as a charger. When the supply is off you get the 12v then turn on the supply set at 14.4 or 15 for the extra volts and you will see a big difference in how them amps work. Keep up the good work. I did try a powermax before with no luck. It's in my power supply graveyard. I am definitely going to try adding a super capacitor though next. As I am still getting some hum in tx when pulling it hard. Which I do not get from my iron core supply.
Hey Matt, just curious what was the issue with the powermax supply. Reason I am asking is I've been using one now for 10 straight years and haven't shut it off since I powered it up. It's given me absolutely no issue whatsoever. 73
In your opinion what is a fair price for a working 148 GTL? I used to have one I bought back in the 80's for $125.00 that had a 2w carrier and 45w output. That thing would do that all day long. Also had extra upper and lower freq's added. I miss that radio. Apparently the person that ripped it off of me needed it more than I did!
