A Canadian first at CHEO! On Thursday, May 16, 2019, 8 year old Almeda became the first recipient of a fully functioning new 3D MRI safe cochlear implant. The audiology team at CHEO 'switched on' her new implant, giving her the gift of sound! Almeda suffered hearing loss as the result of chemotherapy treatments for a brain tumour when she was just a toddler. Thanks to generous donors the CHEO Foundation is able to direct funds to the cochlear implant program for technology that can often otherwise be out of reach financially for many families.
