Good luck! Never had such a hyper puppy in my life like the one I have. Had all breeds but Cockapoos are a total nightmare! I love him to bits but if I'd known how hyper he was going to be would never have got him, sad to say.

@@svsfilm Thank yo Karen, we are really looking forward to her arrival!. I do have one question if you are able to help. We live in a new build with an open plan kitchen at the rear which goes out to the garden. This makes it susceptible to getting warm to hot (not too hot) in the summer but it does get quite cold in the winter. Would you recommend keeping the crate in the living room with us or will the kitchen area be ok if we had enough blanket in the crate? Ideally we want to keep the crate in the kitchen and have another bed area in the living area as we do spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Thank you in advance. Jay

@@jaychauhan8767 Hello again Jay, if the dog is in the house it should normally be fine. Try to put the crate out of any draughts, and, if you're a bit concerned about the cold when the puppy is very small, think of putting a cat cave (soft igloo-style cat bed) in the back of the crate. This will let the puppy cuddle up warm inside. Kindest Regards, Karen

Hi I love your videos. My 10 week old Cockapoo is almost identical to Dill. I have only had her a week and taught her your sit and down commands. Looking forward to trying the rest of the lessons.

Hello. Many thanks for your interest in our dog training films. We plan to do some more during September and will make a note to cover the 'watch me'/ 'look at me' command in one of them.

Can you please list the treats you are using through all your training and A BIG thanks to John for the stellar camera work 🙏
@svsfilm
@svsfilm 3 года назад
Hello there, thank you for your interest in our videos , and for your question. Really the puppy determines the treats used. The criteria are: high value, small, and most importantly kind on your puppy's digestive system. There are lots of commercially produced dog treats on the shelves, but sausage, tiny bits of left-over chicken or cheese are just as good. If your pup isn't food motivated, and, surprisingly some aren't, use a toy that your puppy only gets to play with as part of training. I try to intersperse training with play anyway, so it doesn't feel like boot camp for both of you. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Karen

thank you for the wonderful videos My puppy walks with a lead near me with no problem in the home, but when we go out, she sits down and refuses to walk. After I wait a bit, she walks, but will cry and walk a little, and then sit down again. Any advice? He's 12 weeks old

Hello Bina, The world is a big and frightening place to a puppy, made worse by the lack of socialisation because of the threat of Covid. Your pup just needs a gradual introduction to wide spaces, noise and traffic, and lots of patience from you. If it is possible, take her to quieter areas, and gradually build that up. Don't be tempted to pick her up and mother her, and don't cajole her, instead praise and reward her every time she walks a short distance. Trust me, it won't be long until she is wanting to go out and rush ahead, and you want to pause and think. Enjoy your puppy, and do let me know how you get on, Kindest regards, Karen

Thank you for your kind words, and congratulations on the upcoming new member of your family. Puppies should only leave their mothers when they are at least 8 weeks old unless there are exceptional circumstances. Be very wary about buying a puppy from a breeder who is prepared to part with it at an earlier age. Once your puppy has had a few days to settle in, and that little tail is wagging a whole lot, then you can start 'training'. If you look at the early videos, you'll see that Dill is still only 8 weeks old. Remember that your puppy will get tired very quickly, and is still trying to make sense of the world. Go gently, tiny bits of training at a time, and always end on a positive. So, if your puppy does what you are aiming for, lots of praise and cuddles, and end the session. Next time your puppy will get there earlier, and then you can add on another step. The main thing is to build your pup's confidence and your bond. Just as important is exposing your puppy to new experiences and socialising (after the puppy has had its jabs). I know this is terribly difficult because of the virus, but it is REALLY important. At the moment distanced dog walking is still allowed - look at the video about meeting other dogs and people. You will have a lot of laughs, love and fun, and a little bit of anxiety - enjoy it all. Kindest Regards, Karen
