Cockatiel Will Fight You For Noodles | Tiel Named Loubert 

I had a parakeet that would fight for basically ALL human food. His faves were buttered toast, grilled cheese and oven baked Mac& cheese. He would fly out of his cage and land on a shoulder and walk down our arm to get the food.

Oh yes, *huge* agree on that. I have an awesome connection/trust built with my cockatiel Sour Cherry - but the thing she wants most is my pet fish unfortunately😟 She sits outside the tank, staring at the fish and often the fish all staring back at her 😂 The dome aquarium my rose tail betta is in she often runs her beak over the glass surface tracking it around the tank. One time I opened the tank to work on it, and had to grab something from the other room when I suddenly heard a splash - squawk. There was Sour Cherry, trying to look totally innocent despite being soaking wet and sitting on the open tank edge while looking at me as if nothing had happened 🤣 I think she finally saw her chance to catch one of my fish and took it - not realizing they are doubtless to fast for her. Still, fish watching is her favourite past time since and while I’ve never left the tank open like that again … she’s just biding her time for opportunity strike once more 😂

​@@victorf8301 human food is often dangerous to almost every animal. It's not going to make them explode of course, but that doesn't mean they won't get incredibly sick and/or die... Pigeons are scavengers so they have evolved to help them handle many types of 'food', and even then they still die a lot - cigarette butts and discarded wrappers/bags/packaging are especially common reasons. You don't see the dead ones often, though, because when animals are ill, they *hide*.

@callmehplus Exactly. He’s a bird. He knows what he can and can’t eat. He doesn’t require someone to tell him. If he wants to eat it then it’s safe. The don’t have people in the wild showing em what they can and can’t eat. They just know instinctively.

@@socallawrence If you eat his pasta he´ll want it. Like a small child, they want what you have. For example, when I´m eating bread my tiel asks for a piece, I give him some, he takes two bites and comes back to me again because he wants the piece that is in my hand. In his head mine is much better.

This is a trick I will do with my almost 23yr old Congo African Grey Parrot when I introduce her to something new. If its something I don't like I will pretend to take a bite, chew and make happy sounds telling her, yummy; then hand her the item. She'll immediately take it and start eating it. I can Always tell when she doesn't like it though. One bite she shakes her head and drops it to the floor of her cage. 🤣😂🤣 Had to tell my husband to do that trick when she would refuse to accept things he offered her. They are highly intelligent but can also throw fits like toddlers. 😂🤣😂

Where the majority of parrots do actually mimic things, Grey's will actually practice over and over again a new sound, word etc till they master it and then learn to associate it with other words/sounds so they communicate to their humans by giving correct responses to questions like what an objects shape, color, size; even the material its made of is too. That and if you have ever heard the vocal speech of a Grey vs that of a Macaw or Cockatoo or any bird that learns to talk; you might notice how much clearer the Grey's words are compared to the other birds. That's something that had often fascinated me and made me wonder why it is the Grey's speaking abilities seem much better and less garbled or gravely than others. I think it has to do with the fact Grey's will mumble a word or phrase to themselves for some time till they feel confident that they have it just so, then start saying that word/phrase more openly hoping to gain a response from their human. 🤷🏼‍♀️ it's definitely something I notice my girl doing and there are certain letters that are tough to say for birds. My girl is constantly calling my husband who's name is Ralph. She enunciates his name using my own vocal tones pretty flawlessly too. Lol when she first started calling out his name in a question tone he honestly thought I was the one calling for him. It didn't click that the voice was coming from a completely different direction than where I was seated but my daughter and I would start laughing because we knew who was saying his name. Sometimes even after 21 years of being around her, he still falls for it thinking I am calling his name not my bird. 😂😂 since we got married in 2002 and my husband moved my daughter and I to his home, later moving my bird once we set up a spot for her with the most "human" traffic; she started really picking up new sounds from Owl's hooting to the cry of our lamb and later our goats too. Never a dull moment That's for sure. When we adopted a friends parakeet that could talk, it got really fun because the two would "chatter" back and forth and my bird ended up teaching the parakeet a few new sounds and words along the way too lol. Parrots in general are intelligent animals and a lot of fun to own too. It's just that many Parrot owners don't realize just how long parrots can live vs the smaller species like parakeets. Owning a Parrot is a lifetime commitment that entails the owners needing to make contingency plans on who the bird would go to when they die too. That and doing research on care, foods etc also being important when considering purchasing or adopting a parrot.

That is why I eat in my kitchen with the door closed. Only way I can eat in peace with 3 curious cats from which at least one is highly food motivated. I can only eat some citrics or pretzels in my living room, things they don't like. Even if I drink milk I have to share. 😁
