I have cockatoos visit my back deck every afternoon. I ended up putting some bird feeders in for them. Its so therapeutic having these birds around. Beautiful video, they are very relaxed around your daughter.
The wild birds where I live are able to mimic chainsaws, Jack hammers and other heavy machinery. They also mimic children laughing and babies crying - which I find kind of creepy We hand feed hummingbirds but other than them and the black birds mimicking we have no semi tame birds - we do have many birds of prey which are fun to watch 😉
My cat likes to catch the hummingbirds just to prove he can, so I have stopped feeding them...we also have tons of woodpecker and mock jays, which aren't a true blue jay...but they are pretty and will take peanuts or so I am told.
Very jealous! Could you feed them fruit instead though? I feed the birds in my garden but in the UK they rarely even come close to you (unless it's a fledgling) but will tolerate you being around when they are used to you. So yeah, thinking of moving to Aus just so's I can feed the Sulphurs every day 😊
I like feeding them too 🙄🙄. I think I'm very like cos we live close to the bush and since I moved in I got the opportunity to see different types of wild animals like green parrots, cockatoos, lizards, snakes, rainbow lorikeets, rabbits, koalas and kangaroos. It's just amazing and I love it!
You feed them white bread??? It always has glyphosate chemical inside the gluten. Give them walnuts, sunflower- and hemp-seeds instead. And never make a fast jerk towarda wild birds. That makes them afraid. Move slowly, go towards them, then away, then back again etc. and they will be happier and happier, more tame.
I have seen people feeding bread in several of these videos, to cockatoos. It is not right, the young lady could loose a finger as they like finger food as well.. Better for nuts and fruit..
The glyphosate problem is restricted to the US I think. They're the only ones that spray roundup 6-10 days before harvest, which leads to the active ingredient ending up in the grain husks.
@TheBigHase Exactly!" They could instead go to almost any shop and buy bird seeds wth peel on, They also have bigger sacks in some shops - and avoid the ones with grains. Pure, only seeds is best. Hemp seed are very healthy.
It is a small amount, yes everyday would be bad for them. Once in a while not going be that bad. Rice without salt added cockatoos love and beneficial to them.
@DOUG HEINS Yep it how I got mines to eat fresh veggies, I mixed rice in it and chop the food up in a food processor. I eat it to as well expect I throw the veggies in a vitamix and make it into a smoothie. It is good for humans and birds.
There are plenty of parrots needing rescuing from abandonment by owners who "wished they could keep one". Please do not keep one unless you can make a lifetime commitment to them since they can live as long as humans. Don't be one of those who lose interest and abandon the bird to another infatuated owner who loses interest and abandons the bird to another infatuated .........
Plot twist: This was the opening to Hitchcock's Birds 2 in real life. They will be back ... in bigger numbers and things will start to get dicey when you run out of bread.
Well, no. But a little bit doesn't hurt them as long as they're not overfed, and that the food is fresh, not contaminated. Many, but not all, human foods okay to share, but the biggest problem is that they become used to humans feeding them and may neglect to forage for themselves.
@@Christopher-N - But if they are regular guests, their main food should be vegetables and a little fruit with whole grain cookies, almonds etc as snacks. 🤗
Know this is old, but in general... She shouldn’t let her face come that close to a wild cockatoo, it might just take a big munch out of it and scar her for life - to no fault of the cockatoo. The adult should superwise better. Kids shouldn’t stick their face that close to tame parrots. Just saying❗️🤗
You know cockatoos have the complete capability to dismember human fingers but there are no recorded cases of them ever doing so. Ever. Now he shouldn't be allowing her to try to forcefully pet the cockatoos like she was ( I agree.) and she shouldn't be doing sudden movements as well. It could result in a bite; but let's leave hyperbole at the door, it wouldn't be a bite powerful enough to leave a scar or maim her. Cockatoos never use their full force when they are trying to warn someone. I'd imagine they only use their full force if they are fighting for their life. Hard to fly away if your beak is completely clamped down on something.
@@AlithAnar Yeah I uploaded this a LONG time ago mainly for family in South Africa and did not pay much attention to it and then all of a sudden a few months ago it started getting a lot of views and comments. Really interesting!
Afrikaans in Australië.... Hoe amazing is dit. Ek wens dat ek daar kan wees. Hierdie video het my skoon in trane gehad. Wonder hoeveel afrikaanse mense is daar.
