I flew this several years ago. This was always one of my favorite approaches into NY.

I've seen this approach many times driving on I678 and I 495. Its not easy. Great job by all the pilots!

Funny last night I watched a video of LGA night landing on runway 31, exact same approach, and I was trying to spot landmarks here and there.

Flew right over childhood memories. I partially grew up in NYC near LGA, spent lots of time in Flushing Meadows by the Globe with friends and HS girlfriend. Other times stuck in the LIE and Grand central. I got a job in Jamesburg NJ; it was 70% traveling so I commuted from Flushing to Jamesburg when needed. The commute was 90 minutes. One time I was flying back home from MCO into LGA and we flew over the Jamesburg office building. I started a timer to time how long it took from my NJ office to LGA by plane; it took 7 minutes.

I was the Capt. My F.O. Recorded this ...on my request. We "might" have also talked a bit below 10,000.

so you're blatantly admitting to violating your company SOPs and FAA regs, especially as commander, instructing the FO to do so...?@@unpilot1

Hey look not to be a giant stick in the mud(generally sterile cockpit is one of those things I find myself breaking pretty often), but you probably shouldn't have an active Pilot Monitoring filming the approach, especially one more complex than normal. I don't think it would be a huge deal if it was a jumpseater or you stuck the camera on the nose, but there's two crew in there for a reason. Say shit hits the fan, you have an engine quit, you have some massive avionics issue, there's traffic that forces a go-around. AKA that FO needs to do something other than watch you and drop the flaps and gear. What's your contingency plan? Things happen fast in a jet and he's going to need to not only get the phone or camera off, but assess the situation quickly, because anyone who flies with cameras on will tell you, it's always something going on in the back of your mind. How would it sound on an NTSB report if you had busted something, or broke something on the approach? Or how would this sound to the passengers in the back? Again I'm not saying this to be a dick, but the fact you sort of laughed it off when another commenter pointed it out seems to show you don't really understand how much risk you're adding here, or have just gotten that complacent.
