There is no other female vocalist who can come anywhere close to Liz's vocal dexterity. She's one of a kind and I never tire of her or Cocteau Twins. I've been listening to them for over 30 years.
@@gigiartstudiowithartistvir3919 Thanks, I’d forgotten about the shortening. She seems to be wearing something like ‘royal Stewart’ tartan. Cud also be called ‘Lizztle’ from Liz and thistle.
Spacefreak Agreed. As much as I love Simon and all he brought to the Twins, the driving, melodic awesomeness of Will’s lines is unquestionable and I really would have loved to hear what his influence on the band’s sonic evolution would have been. I sometimes imagine what certain later songs might have been like with one of Will’s bass lines driving them...🤔
@@softlightsymphonyband you may easily switch your attention to Lowlife then. One of the most underrated bands where Heggie showed what he is capable of.
I dont think she is underrated. She is very aporeciated by people with good musical taste. The problem is: there are very few people with good music taste. But we just cant hope for the average person to enjoy cocteau twins :/
@@danilorocharibeiro7989 I guess it's true that they're not for everyone. Man, I feel like that every time I want to share some of my favorite more obscure bands with people. That they just won't appreciate it and I'll be grooving by myself as always.
Wow I just happened to be looking for live performances of Elizabeth Fraser today. This was the first one I bumped into. After I finished watching it I noticed that it's a performance from 29th January 1983. Today it's 29th January 2023 .. No algoritms were involved. A pure coincidence I bumped into this performance that is exactly 40 years old today. *__*
I didn’t take much for granted at that time or the following decade, but I did indeed take for granted that the music would always somehow be that good. I’m just glad I got to see CT and so many other bands live in their heyday
Man, I can't stop watching and listening to this. This performance is amazing, want to hear that bassline intro again and again and again. Liz is so into the vibe of the song. Shivers down my spine. And now I'm going to watch it once again. And again.
What sets apart the Garlands LP from any other CT's work is Heggie's thunderous, brooding bass lines. They dominate the song structure and they set the tone. Shallow then Halo, Garlands, Blind Dumb Deaf and this one are all perfect representatives of bass driven melodic structure. In Shallow then Halo, in particular, in the first minute of the song the only melody heard comes from the bass and Liz's voice.
Liz absolutely owns it, and Will heggies phenomenal bass line so critical to early CT sound. Absolutely luv it! Simon Raymonde brilliant, but cant imagine 'Garlands" without Will, He got the ball rolling.
Omg i love this song and its fuckin atmosphere. But most important thing i thought she couldnt do these vibratos in live but she could. She is really an angel.
Believe it or not, I just discovered CT through Spotify - and am completely hooked. I was 15 when this was shot, but remained oblivious the rest of my life 'till now... Liz is so adorable here. Fragile yet confident.
Lol I'm 19 now and last year during a temp Christmas job, I was chatting to a very pleasant middle aged co-worker and he recommended that I listen to Cocteau Twins and I'm now hooked!
@@highschoolbigshot it’s something autistic people during moments of anxiety (both like positive anxiety and negative) it sorta involves repetitive movements, such as her playing with her fingers
2000 Years from now Liz's writings, recordings, etc will be discovered. The historians will conclude that she was revered and worshipped WorldWide as a living goddess. They will actually be 100000000000% correct.
Un des morceaux les plus somptueux de Cocteau Twins. Merveilleuse alliance qui conduit à ce chef-d'œuvre impérissable. Toi non plus tu n'es pas là par hasard.
It's as rare as rocking horse shit to get anything "new" from Cocteau Twins Archives...thanks to those for making this available, both audio and video on this are top notch.

@@CariMachet CariMachet, if she and her ex-husband take their passports out of the drawer and look at the cover page they will read "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Thus, besides all the emotional/political reasoning, Scotland is undeniably British. Also Scotland sits on the Great British isle.
Love it when a singer is POSSESSED by a song. She was so crippled by stage fright. Watching them was always such a tense experience. She hates this. But the song comes through that. It took a toll on her but... wow! Hope she's happy now.
WOW. This clip is amazing. I have never seen Liz so animated , actually moving her body. She is normally quite melancholic. How is it all the these European TV channels have all the gems.... She looks beautiful.
This is one of the Cocteau Twins strongest numbers they ever came up with. It'll be in my CT top three for ever. Plus the video quality couldn't be any better. Thanks for this upload.
Try DRAB MAJESTY - as a huge CTwins 4AD fan of all 80s music I can say that although not innovators like these 3 musical geniuses, they do capture the feel, the Vibe and the Tone of a (previously) bygone Era. Enjoy!
I know eh- '88 I met my wife she looked just like Liz - ahh the memories ! Make Love To This People ! ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kv8Nbz2HMRg.html
She suffered (suffers) from PTSD and anxiety, that mixed with the drugs she would have for breakfast, make her look so accelerated, almost intimidating. but yeah, also cool and hot.
The palace in Hollywood. I was just a little girl of 17. They had a drum malfunction.. but it was just a blip. So incredibly cool set list. Wish I could live it again.
This is incredible! Liz is my top inspiration for vocals. She brought such originality and extreme talent, so badass! I'm so grateful to have discovered CT at the time that I did. Absolutely life-changing for me.
Great post, great sound and doesn't Liz look hot with long hair, just as I'm typing this,I just saw a comment below lamenting the same thoughts, hahaha, and good to see Will Heggie on the bass.
So I kept hearing the cover by Deftones and I kept thinking to myself about how much it didn't sound like a Deftones song, so I decided to look it up and I would've never guessed it was Cocteau twins but God I love it !!
I only just discovered this video and it gave me the same chills down my spine as when I first heard it. 1980. I had read the album reviews, so off to the university bookshop and record store, headphones secured, and then this otherworldly magic begins to play...
Saw her live at the Barrowlands for the Heaven or Las Vegas tour, supported by Dolphin City, the night I was there was special, Liz's parents were in the rear of the audience as it was her birthday that day, she was so happy they were there and by god we felt it too. What a show!!
Wow! What a treasure (no pun intented) - this must have been around the time I was lucky enough to see them live,at Liverpool University, and it´s such a joy too see such a stripped-down performance in contrast to the highly polished videos that came later (which I also love, don´t get me wrong!)
This is what I love about RU-vid. Every once and a while you come across a gem like this. Thanks so much for providing. I know CT is more well known for their later output but I actually favor this early stuff and Garlands is one of my all time favorite albums. It was this and a few other LPs that caused me to become a 4AD label fanatic and buy everything out from that label on sight.
They had a particular something that nobody else has ever had, it's about the atmosphere they were able to create, Garlands is an absolute masterpiece of humanity.
I just know that I have always fancied Elizabeth Frazer strange, unusaual and perfect and always will be, I fell head over heels for her in the 80s when I too was a very young and she still looking good now, if there is a song I like best it would be From The Flagstones because everything the Cocteau Twins made is good listening and watching, I really love the video Pearly Dewdrops Drops made in a church.
Huh! I'm tired of seeing it happen, I've seen numerous videos re-uploaded from my channel, it hurts even more when they're videos I've taken quite some time editing lots of clips together to create a kind of promo. It's one of the reasons why I've not posted anything for some time now, but I am thinking of making a return and just leave my ID screen card after each video finishes. It may not deter all, but other than YT deleting such duplications, what can one do?
Graduated highschool in 83'.Hardcore metal head.First heard this song at a party. From that point in my life this one song sent me on the musical journey to appreciating all musical genres. Please don't lock yourself into one type of music, you will sorely regret it the rest of your life.
Haha I never understood labels in music mate. I grew up listening to metal, punk, hard-core, classical, etc. People will see me with a Maiden shirt and the next day will be Joy Division. They asked me if I was metal, gothic, I was always say I am ME!
