Hi Sammy lovely to hear from you!!! Yes fish stocks worldwide are in terrible decline unfortunately ☹️ Makes the odd day when you catch a few that extra special!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
A glorious day to be out on the shore, and some cracking fish. Those Bream make superb eating, am with you that they taste better than Bass.Excellent video, and well done. Thanks for sharing 🎣🎣🎣👍👍👍
Hi Anthony just had bream fillets for tea with Mrs C……delicious!!! Plus home made chips!! Was a lovely day if a bit chilly!!! Thanks for watching again cheers ian
Hi ian you definitely don’t know!!! I would certainly fish smallish hooks with lug and squid to maximise your chances of a variety of species!! Cheers ian
Hi James yes it has the ability to amaze you…..but can also destroy you just as easily 😂 We all had a lovely day…glad you enjoyed watching it cheers ian
Great day's fishing Ian, well I think you should leave that lucky Chris at home and see what happens then, he is one lucky guy. LOL don't mean it Chris, thanks for the video guys.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi Gary nice to hear from you again. Yes some very tasty fish landed which was very pleasing indeed!!!! As good a day as you can hope for in that bright sun!! Let’s hope our luck continues!!! Cheers ian
Well who'd have thought Ian, Cod in bright sunshine, just goes to show that we never really know. Great fishing, well done, some right lumpers for Chris there. I think your dog definitely brought you some luck once again, bless her, she seemed to enjoy it too. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Gareth it just shows if your bait is in the water there is always a chance…. But we were still surprised at the result!! Bella had a great time too….she has been asleep all day today!!! Cheers ian
my first chesil cod came on a bright august day the guy next to me was catching plaice conditions dont have to be perfect for the old chesil cod just right place right time
Hi Gordon yes he did very well!!! We had a very enjoyable 5 hours and I didn’t feel wrecked this morning. Short sessions can be very rewarding! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi yes lovely cod for chris I must say!!! Cod and bream with no nuisance fish …lovely!!! Not loads of bites but enough to keep you on your toes!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Yes a beautiful wild beach …. Unpredictable but can be very rewarding….or it can break your heart!!!! We love it!!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Great filming of a great session. Good to see someone fishing reel up without pendulum casting to the horizon and still catching cod. Ferry bridge is my home stretch and I love fishing there. Keep up the great videos Ian. Best wishes.
Hi Martin lovely to hear from you! Lucky man living close to chesil! I’ve never managed to master a pendulum cast without disastrous results…..I’ve got a 15’9” Penn continental rod so my casts go far enough thankfully!! Thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Ian yes he did really well… it shows too how just a few yards along the beach can make a difference! I’m sure he will let me know how he smashed it for a while yet!🙄 cheers ian
Great vid Ian, and some cracking fish.... Looks like me and my son chose wrong area day after you went.... We hit Abbotsbury and literally had whiting (although very sizeable) every chuck... It got so hectic we both had to go down to one rod.... No chance of any other fish finding our bait haha
Hi Steve thanks for watching! I had exactly that happen to me and my son at Abbotsbury a couple of weeks ago which is why we did daytime at Ferrybridge to avoid that mayhem!!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
great vid yet again-mate ,the sea and weather looked really nice , i see you used the chinese tactic of how to catch all the fish, [ fill the beach with friends and family so no one else gets a look in ,lol, -] ,great to see bella out again enjoying life ,ATB les...... ps i see the bass master is now the cod master .
Ah yes we netted the area around us so the fish couldn’t escape!! Chris had a magic day! Bella asleep beside me now she hasn’t moved today except to eat !! Lovely to hear from you again cheers ian
Another cracking video Ian. Bella looked very comfortable all curled up taking a nap. Some cracking fish for Chris and some nice Bream for you and number 1 son. Look forward to the next one all the best and tight lines. Cheers Paul
Hi again paul yes an all round enjoyable trip!! Bella still recovering today the old girl!!!! Nice to catch some nice fish in daylight…. It’s too bloody cold at night for us old guys!!!! Cheers ian
Great session again Ian, especially for Chris with 3 cod! 👏👏👏👏. hoping to get out this coming weekend as there is a northerly blow forecast up the North East to get the sea up and the Cod in 🤞🤞🤞. All the best mate as always and tight lines Charlie 🎣🎣
Hi again Charlie lovely to hear from you! Hope you get that blow this weekend I love fishing after a big storm!! I’m from Northumberland by birth and know a lot of the coastline up there. Thanks again for watching cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing yes Ian, I'm a Northumbrian too, your right ,there's some fantastic marks up this way, don't mind losing the odd bit gear in the hope of pulling a decent cod out, I'm especially fond of a mark called the Drs House at Howick. Had some decent fish from the rocks there 🎣🎣👍👍. Got my blacks and squid all ready, just waiting for the sea to come away! 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
Lovely stuff!!!! I spent one summer working at a pub in Seahouses when home from Uni in early 80’s. Slept in caravan and fished on days off…. Great memories! 🎣
Hi Saifoun nice to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed the video….I like the music too it’s just a generic sample from iMovie no idea who did it but it’s become my intro tune!!! Cheers ian
great video ian , i think chris is using some special cod bait that hes not telling you about chap lol . he had some gorgy cod there well done chris !! we love the chesil videos ian keep up the good work mate and see you on the beach take care
Cheers Tony….where possible we use lug we dig at Brean/Berrow…. It definitely outfishes shop bought blow lug or even fresh black!! I’m sure it’s a major factor in our catches!! Mine yesterday had BO unfortunately 😂😂😂 cheers mate…ian
Well done Ian and your mate at chesil, was a cracking watch and basically throws out what’s best time to catch cod,low water day time unbeileavable,I gave your channel a shout out on my live last night so hopefully they will subscribe as well cracking watch 👍👍👍
Ah lovely to hear from you so glad you enjoyed it!!! We were pleasantly surprised to have such a good session in unpromising conditions but I was just fed up catching pout and whiting after dark! The cod had been feeding hard on small crabs and whiting. Many thanks for the mention on your live show I really appreciate it!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Another great video. Where I use to live in East anglia I had a fishing pal called Chris, he could catch fish out of a bucket. A good angler though. Maybe it's the name Chris. Lol.
Proper Cod. Congratulations to Chris. Of course I had to try Ferrybridge today but just past the Adelaide, I think. Walking on Chesil is hard work. All anglers should chip in to build a boardwalk or a quad bike service. Not so many fish about on 24th Nov.. Perhaps it was the low pressure and NE wind that affected it? Either that or Chris has caught all the fish 😆
Hi paul unlucky on lack of cod I’m sure chris left some in there!!! We walked on the boards past the bird sanctuary but not much further. I think a nice airport type escalator is called for!!😂 we will no doubt be there again soon when work allows! Thanks for watching cheers ian
I always do, the head cam perspective is great and it's refreshing to see some fishing action and the lovely surroundings. Hopefully you'll get a Cod next time.
Thanks for your kind words. I try to do a first person perspective to hopefully think the viewer is fishing with me! Not too much technical advice either!! Tight lines mate cheers ian
Hi Fred nice to hear from you! Avoiding the nuisance fish in daylight paid off which was nice! Surprised it was such a good session in bright sun but I’m not complaining!!! Cheers ian
Congratulations Chris on a stunning catch. I’ve been out of the game for a bit after catching myself a portion of COVID but hoping to get back out on the shingle soon. 👍🏻🎣
Ha ha!!!! Is it that bad Neale? We are struggling up the Bristol Channel too very few cod there….. fortunately we always have chesil thank god!!! Cheers ian
Hi Gerald yes Bella loved Chesil!!! Unfortunately she died last year aged 17 but is always in my heart… her ashes were scattered on Chesil too!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi lovely to hear from you and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!! It seems like ages ago now…. January and February have been very poor unfortunately….roll on the spring!!!! Cheers ian
@Ian Clark yes has been tough going for me this year so far , Southbourne has produced more then chesil but I hope to have some cracking sessions on the shingle this year 👍
Another great video, thanks. I've not fished Chesil but that shingle looks knackering. Does everyone set up above the tideline because it's flatter? Seems like the waterline doesn't move that fast, certainly not compared to here in the BC. Not sure I fancy endless mountaineering through a ballpool filled with marbles just to get to the water and back. LOL
Hi just finding a nice flat stance you are correct the tide didn’t move much at all. On a windy day it’s always prudent to be well back as there is always the chance of a rogue wave. It keeps you fit I must say….my calves still aching!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing lan what are the best winds ,& direction for ferryside & where do we park please we are going to plan it in regards gary was it lug & tipped of squid you was using for the cod etc what rigs would you recommend please Regards Gary 🐟👍
We park in Ferrybridge car park £5 for 12 hours. If you can catch in conditions like yesterday then I reckon anything will produce fish! Used pulley pennel rigs size 2 hooks lug tipped with squid. Cast as far as we could!!!! Tight lines cheers ian
Every time a good cod video is posted hopefull idiots like me rush to the chezil and wait for hours freezing me bits off and all I catch is witeing witeing and you guessed it more pin witeing .but brilliant to see someone has a good day!
Hi Nigel lovely to hear from you! Sorry you didn’t manage a decent fish and for raising your expectations ☹️. It was just one of those days for us! Definitely less whiting Ferrybridge end rather than further west which was why we went there instead of Abbotsbury. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Andy no but he should have!😂 Always amazes me how such a short distance between anglers can make such a difference….or I am a crap angler!!😂 thanks for watching cheers ian
Great video Ian.. we planning trip down to Chesil this weekend. We are wondering which part of Chesil will fish better given the current conditions? If you can please enlighten us, that will be great!
Hi Jonathan nice to hear from you! Looking at windguru there is virtually no wind so the sea will be very clear. This is not great this time of year in daylight hours ☹️ You will definitely get fish after dark but mainly dogs pout whiting and eels….an outside chance of a cod or bass I suggest one rod with a livebait rig on it and another fished conventionally. Ferrybridge end is deeper so probably there or east past the dragons teeth at Abbotsbury??? Enjoy your trip but don’t have too many expectations and just enjoy the chesil experience!!!! Tight lines ian
I totally agree bream is so much nicer than the sea bass. I target bass on lures full time nowadays and release pretty much all of them. I've enjoyed your video thank you.. 🎣🎣🎣
Hi so glad you enjoyed the video!! I had the bream last night it was delicious!!! We put most fish back but those bream and cod are just too tasty ! Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing I used to fish the Chesil at least once a week when I lived in South Devon. Do you ever walk as far as dragons' teeth to the far left of Abbotsbury? Quite often I find I'm fishing alone because not many people want to walk that far. How was the place fishing this year on Chesil?? It used to be absolutely brilliant in the 90s.
If we fish Abbotsbury we walk 30 minutes beyond the teeth!!!! If you look back at earlier videos you will see it’s a long way but you are always alone and the fishing is better!!! Had very few plaice but we don’t fish Cogden or Bexi much which is the hot spots!!! Cheers ian
Hi ismail nice to hear from you! We both used pulley pennel rigs size 2 hooks..hook length about 18”. Bait was dug blow lug. Glad you enjoyed the video thanks for watching cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing I was there Saturday morning to Sunday morning , Fished 18 hours for one Codling and the usual small stuff, We might have passed each other as I was walking back at about 7 am.
Hi we used lugworm to catch on this video tipped with a strip of squid! Chesil can produce wonderful fishing but can destroy you too in equal measure!!! It’s not always like that!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
That’s better!!!! Size 2 Sakuma Mantra a relatively small hook but very strong!! You can catch bream etc but they will hold a decent cod, smoothound, bass etc. Once the smaller species have definitely gone I will probably up the size a bit! Cheers ian
Do you mean use it in the sea??? If so that’s not suitable at all!! If you want a beachcaster I suggest going to your local tackle shop and ask advice there! There are many quality rod and reel combinations out there to suit all budgets! I use Penn rods and reels which are affordable and good quality. Shop local rather than online! Cheers ian
We never ever learned from the Grand Banks rape of cod in the 1970s.. Question ??? Of those breeding sized cod how many actually went back to breed on for future years. ????
Hi lovely to hear from you! On our recent trips in the last couple of months we have had some each trip…. It’s been a good cod season this year! Some years they are a much rarer species….. I have a new video out later this week when we really hit the jackpot with the codling! Thanks for watching cheers ian
