Another job well done most professional job showing how a dying trade is done lead Woking. Never let a large job get better of you as you can only do a days work at a time, it’s hard. Excellent vids . 👍🏽
You know, I followed your profile on instagram where you showed your muscle progress and it makes sense why you're a bodybuilder because of all the construction work at least that's what I think, either way I admire that you're a bodybuilder well done😉
Thank you. Yes I don’t understand it. I think your better off capping the stones rather than putting them in top. I suppose at least it’s not as easy to steal
Ever thought about starting a training centre I worked for a company in Scotland b4 covid as a construction trainer We worked with kids that had a rough upbringing through the local council's I enjoyed it
Great work as usual mate. What do you think of OSB as a substrate for leadwork? OSB is ok and it was onsite and to hand here as a required substrate for the liquid roof membrane but I hate seeing it used under lead as your leadwork will surely out live the OSB by many many decades.
Thank you. I’m not a fan of OSB for leadwork and this shouldn’t be used. But like you say it was here to hand so it’s what the builder gave me to work with unfortunately.
To be fair though i am constantly suprised how long osb lasts. I had a hole in my trailer and needed to pick up some gravel so i threw a sheet of osb over the hole to get this job done and that sheet was i the trailer for 5 years or more outside getting rained and snowed on. When i finally got round to reboarding the trailer i thought the osb would just break up easy and id burn it. I had to cut it with a circular saw to burn it. That board was still in great shape 😅
@@slbleadworksunfortunately they are necessary as water will run off the lead and down the side of the wall. Coping stones have a 50mm overhand each side and a drip channel to prevent this
@@slbleadworks thank you sir. Working on a project where architect wants bauder waterproofing underneath with lead finish on parapet. Hopefully we will get it right
Excellent Video of your work ....Warning Warning OSB ..OSB ..OSB....Remember putting up Timber Frames we laid chipboard floor so we could work on that floor the roof was not on and it pissed down with rain for 6 weeks we had to bore holes in the floor to let the water through as there was in pools of water all over on the floor. this was 30 year ago or so it was V1313 waterproof chipboard . Did not believe the floor was okay after 6 weeks of rain so we cut patches of the floor sent them away for testing and low and behold the floor passed the inspection. Now OSB Hymm from what I can gather it does not do well in the wet so it seems strange to put all that lead work stone capping on to what seems a possible problem in the future although the OSB is protected ..Unless someone tells me different of course. Has OSB been tested recommended by Architect /Design for this type of application does seem strange to me I could be wrong of course.....Interesting well done Stuart excellent lead work.
Thank you. It’s not ideal to use osb in lead work applications. But yes I suppose you could argue that it’s totally protected. There is a grade A building paper underneath and of course then the lead capping creating a watertight seal. The builder didn’t use this on the dormers etc. just on the capping and gutters
I'm trying to get me "Stu from slb leadwork" arms 💪💪 I suppose thats the frame you need for the job, did you get that all done in one day? Also them copings stones are shite be stained and saturated in a few years should have had you cap them instead.
Lol for that you need the Stu from lead work gym programme 😂. No it took me 2.5 days. And I totally agree that it would have been better to cap the stones instead.
Loving the work Stu … Top notch quality as per usual mate… Also … loving the ‘guns’ ! Let it be said that if u work with lead all day u never have to set foot in a gym.! 😂👍 (Unless u do of corse ..!) Always a pleasure to watch … ( the work of corse .. not so much the ‘guns’..!) Cheers Stu … Much love Chris..👍
@@slbleadworks well your looking good bro..…. That’s probably competition level physique u got there.. Takes a lot of dedication especially on a nutrition level… Nuff respect my friend …👍🙏
Why would you want to risk damaging that lovely lead capping with pre-cast concrete cappings bedded in mortar which will eventually burn the lead. Surely the concrete cappings would need to be under the lead or left off altogether no need for them. The mortar bed will not bond to the lead properly. The cappings will loosing and become a dangerous hazard , they are about as useful as an ashtray on a motor bike . Even the tea boy on the site would know that, there are Big mistakes being made on building sites because the architect doesn't have somebody keeping an eye on things or didn't furnish the contractor with enough clear detail which is often the case and the bricklayer ends up making the call which suits all the so called experts fine, now they have someone to blame ,happens all the time not good enough.Cappings bedded that way can kill people.
I totally agree. Could have just left the copings off or put them on first. I was on this job as a subcontractor copying what’s been done before and following orders lol. Thanks for watching.
