@PhoenixLance13
@PhoenixLance13 3 года назад
@@Doctor4077 I think you're both correct and incorrect here. Like, absolutely it comes across as a plot contrivance hail mary. But this is Euphie, arguably the most innocent person in this entire series who is striving for peace, companionship, and reuniting with the one she thought of as her childhood best friend/brother. Lelouch saying "lol imagine if I ordered you to kill all the Japanese, crazy right" is obviously insane, but he was also making a point (indirectly) about his powers. The idea of wanton murder is so against Euphie's core values that it can work as a joking over-exaggeration of what he could make her do: betray herself so thoroughly and completely that nothing is left. And, in an instance of incredibly cruel irony, that's exactly what happens.

Code geass is and has always been my all time favorite anime. But yes season two is perfectly described by garnt here. “A car crash that somehow parallel parked” is too perfect. For the Euphemia scene, it's like people forget about the whole foreshadowing from the Mao arc, you know, the guy who literally goes crazy from using his geass too much, and the warnings C.C. gives Lelouch about losing control of his geass.. and then get a surprise Pikachu face when Lelouch loses control of it leading to that moment. As for what Lelouch says, it makes complete sense with his character's writing, Lelouch is a very prideful egotistical genius, and we know this by that point - As a sore loser to Euphemia, he makes sure that she knows that he could win if he wanted to at any time by just telling her to "kill all the Japanese" while his geass is active.. which he does whilst losing control.. and the tragedy begins.

@@christopherutit8746 1. Actually the geass malfunctioned way before he told Euphemia to massacre the Japanese. There is a moment while Lelouch and Euphemia were talking where Lelouch had fallen to his knees in pain covering his eye. Simultaneously, C.C. had also fallen down in pain because she is part of the geass. She mutters out "No...He has reached that point?!" Implying that Lelouch had lost control of his geass. While Lelouch was able to regain control for the time being, we all knew what was about to come later. 2. "they wanted to drag the story longer". Lelouch's entire goal was to overthrow his father, the king of Britannia, out of revenge for not saving his mother. He purposely started a revolt in Japan not because he wanted to get rid of Britannia's invasion on Japan, but because he wanted to overthrow the king. He merely used the Japanese as tools. Euphemia would make it so that Lelouch and Japan would no longer have a reason to keep rebelling, thus he would lose. If the story had Lelouch accept the peace treaty, I would be questioning why I stuck around 22 episodes rooting for Lelouch.

@realwatermelon6486 3 года назад
@@christopherutit8746 "why did it happen again at that exact moment?" Idk. Why did Juliet have to wake up right after Romeo killed himself? I can see why you would be angry about the geass activation timing because it just seems too convenient and out of place. However, Code Geass was a story that prided itself on implausibility, so Euphemia's massacre is not any different. In season 1, they had a whole episode dedicated to a cat running around with Lelouch's mask. Though it is a "wtf" moment, it does show you how far down the rabbit hole of implausibility this anime will go. And much similar to how Shakespeare talks about fate in Romeo and Juliet, Code Geass often talks about miracles. The implausible story + the amount of foreshadowing that occurred made it seem to me that Euphemia's massacre was something set in stone rather than something done on a whim to keep the story going. However, I do understand why the geass activation just seems too convenient. "plus who lets royalty be alone in the same room with a terrorist with a fucking gun?" 1. CONCEALED gun 2. Euphemia herself also asked to be alone with Lelouch or Zero, despite protests from Suzaku. Reasons being that Euphemia and Lelouch are childhood friends and obviously have great trust in each other. "its just too flawed to be called a masterpiece in my opinion." I agree, story is flawed in some points. In season 2, I hated how Lelouch's character never seemed to change, especially after Euphemia's death. Like, bro, you just killed your childhood friend. I also never understood what was going on with Charles and Marianne in C.C.'s world and what they were trying to do, all I remember is seeing a bunch of flashing images about....something. Also the episodes where the anime pretended to be a comedy, slice-of-life highschool anime, why? Code Geass is definitely far from a masterpiece.

The episode dedicated to the cat literally shows that anyone and anything can expose Lelouch as Zero. It makes him realise that he can be caught by anyone or anything in the most dumbest of ways, it's meant to be comedic.. It's also so that Suzaku and Lelouch's friendship can be known to the rest of the school so not everyone is viewing the Japanese as sub-humans. Lelouch is confident, he brags, he doesn't care nor did he expect it. He was bragging to Euphie about his new power that could allow him to do anything, and he said the one thing that he could order her to do that was against her own morals without realising his geass had went out of control, ignoring what C.C warned him of. Season 2 was pretty good.. Idk wym, Schneizel proved to be a really worthy enemy, and showed that he could break Zero down quickly and how Lelouch fights off Charles and claims himself as the new emperor is good. Rolo proved to be a good character, misunderstood, not loved, not wanted.. He'd do anything to stay close to Lelouch

The finale was so good it was supposed to make you appreciate everything that happened in the season before hand and make you realise why lelouch took those actions. The finale filled up all the holes that we all had in season 2 as everything that happened was connected from the very start all the way to the finale.

The thing about Euphemia’s massacre is that while it looks _extremely_ contrived on its face, it’s really well integrated and becomes a massive point of development in Lelouch and his plans as a whole. And the circumstances of it are completely sensible using the logic of the universe we’d been given up until that point.

Tbf Code Geass encapsulates exactly why I think rating by number is an altogether stupid concept. Who cares if Code Geass has a few flaws. That's the product of ambition and a tight production schedule. What they managed to create by the end was a masterpiece regardless. Why watch a "perfect" 10/10 show if it just isn't as interesting, unique or enjoyable as Code Geass. The characters and arcs it nails, are phenomenal and as they said themselves, it is EASILY the best ending in anime history. The only one close to it is Devilman Crybaby or maybe Monster but still far away from the perfection of Code Geass by its end. Thematically everything comes to a close that most writers wish they could construct, so who cares about the few flaws along the way???

I honestly gotta disagree, I like season 2 a lot more than season 1. Season 1 had some great moments and fights, and probably the best one was the whole scene where he accidently ordered Euphie (which is not nearly as dumb as they made it sound, as a show based around how even one person can change the course of a nation it's very fitting to have even just one mistake affect that change of course too. Also the rules of his Geass were explicitly clear and made the slip up believable and fit into the currently existing rules). That scene specifically was what made the show go from pretty good to really great in my eyes, and the only things still dragging it down too much were the filler characters and school moments. Season 2 straight up left the school and focused a lot more on how the world works even outside of Area 11, making it interesting until the episode where Shirley regains her memories. From that point forward, it was a more focused expereince that led to one of the best endings in any medium. Code Geass is definitely not my favorite show or anime, but I feel like I live in an alternate world where everyone seems to like the filler more than the good stuff, and hate the generally well done twists when they're what made me love the show in the first place lmaoo

I agree. Lelouch saying kill all the japanese ironically BECAUSE he was talking to someone so good-hearted and sweet-natured is not out of his character. The Geass power mutating at that moment is the thing that's a convienent ass pull. Some people hate the way the battles get upscaled and "simplified" with the blastoid mechs, but the show makes it very clear that there is an arms race in developing the most devastating knightmares. And Lelouch often loses tactics-wise in S2, he stays true to upsetting the terrain or some other strategic point that other commanders haven't considered, until they are on to his ways and he can't pull the trickery and feckery anymore. Things actually get more interesting in that regard. R2 is more akin to a runaway ferris wheel because of the immense momentum of each action's consequence and shit DOES spiral out of control, until it parallel parks (or whatever) in the final third of the season.

@@maddiesiegmund5623 I like your takes in general, and can see what you mean. Most everything fits enough, but could’ve benefitted from a few more episodes of setup in certain cases (I would say for Jeremiah and V2 the most). I never actually thought the Geass mutating right then was the reason that the power went off, but it was instead just the order he said being carried out and the trauma of the surprise causing it to jumpstart its growth and intensity, making it about the same time but still distinctly important enough. Could be wrong, but that’s how kid me took it all those years ago and it always made enough sense to me. And for the mech arms race, it could’ve definitely been done better, but still felt sufficiently tactical like other battles and made the only things that weren’t foreshadowed enough/at all being the Chinese frame and V2 knowing how to pilot Jeremiah’s frame. After that it felt like as much of an ass pull as things like the season 1 plans, where a fact is shown but not explicitly explained for foreshadowing Overall I just prefer the more character heavy and less filler heavy segments of the show, as the show really didn’t do much to impress with certain characters and instead did amazingly and top tier with others

I think thats a very convenient lie imo. The reason why Code Geass has one of the best endings in anime history is because of the journey you witnessed throughout, I feel like people who say Code Geass only reason its a masterpiece is because of the ending are being really disingenuous. U only truly value the ending of a story and its characters when u value the journey. Something can't suddenly go from a trainwreck 2/10 to a masterpiece like people say lmao.

Code Geass is that one anime I was obsessed with when I was young but would not spend my time watching again any time soon. It changed me lol, or it awoke something in me and it was just everything yet so traumatic I kind of blocked it out of my memory... YET IT STILL CREEPS BACK UP TO SAY HELLO REMEMBER ME? Like it’s one of those plot lines I’d experience in a dream when I sleep for 15 hours. ESPECIALLY S2 . The “Car crash that somehow perfectly parallel parked” comment was accurate af. It ended so perfectly yet I want more cause it feels like, you know, when you become friends with someone in a dream and then wake up and try to fall back asleep to continue the convo but IT NEVER HAPPENS! I need to sleep. It’s 1 am

Alright so when Lelouch told the joke: it weakened his hopes of solving the 11 problem with no bloodshed when he realized he can’t backstab his dad if he joined Euphy(RIP) but after when Lelouch told the joke he realized I can’t be a vigilante who can solve this peacefully, oath of the Geass basically forced him to not betray his own oath. The scene was crucial to Lelouch’s diversity with his mind. He already killed so many people to the point where he can never look back, the geass forced him to not look back

His point on Euphemia, I noticed that during Season 2 when Season 2 had all sorts of random nonsense plot twists "just to keep the show going" that it made reevaluate how the show got to where it was. Code Geass is a good show but it has MANY huge flaws in it. Season 2 is definitely a mess.

I don't really understand those scores. Season one isn't particularly remarkable. Up to episode ten its just the standard cliche bullshit. Season two is so damn well put together. Most animation out there set up plot points that end up going nowhere. Code Geass is one of the few out there that so satisfyingly ties up all plots into a conclusion.

Why didn't CC simply relay to Lelouch how Marianne died? Then Lelouch doesn't need to bother waging war on everybody.

Code Geass is my favorite anime but I watched it back when I first started watching anime about 5 years ago. It seems that each year I tell my friends more and more that it is my favorite anime. I can’t help but think I should rewatch it to see if it still holds up but i’ve never been the type to rewatch anything.

It'll hold up, trust. People tend to blow stuff out of proportion when talking about the negatives with code geass. While there are objectively some flaws in the show with regards to plot convenience and some cop out writing, the enjoyment and thrill you get from experiencing that crazy ride is still the same as when you first watch it. Even the ending hits almost as hard as the first watch since you spend 49 episodes with lelouch and everyone else before getting there again.

True, the main character has to be interesting enough to advance the storyline. If the main character is boring or annoying then it actually kill the show . Boruto is one of them. I can think of a show that has a lot annoying character. Maybe Makoto ltou from school days.
