After playing COH 1 for the past 10 years I decided to pick up COH2. I'm still wondering why I didn't jump on this sooner. Great video!

COH2 started life in a very different place. I personally think its the better game now, but its taken a long time to get it where it needed to be.

I'm going to defend Armor a little bit. I do think its the worst doctrine overall, but I love several of the individual units. Assault Engineers are honestly one of my favorite units, and I think they would be far more common on the battlefield if they were in another doctrine. They have a literally mountain of abilities, and very few people really make use of their entire kit. They do have some of the highest damage falloff in the game, but their close in DPS is better than most of the other early game assault units. In addition, if you ever find yourself with Assault Engineers late game without a Flamethrower, then they actually get better buffs for BARs than Riflemen and have ever so slightly better RA than Rifles as well. (when both are Vet 3) More importantly, they give USF access to lots of early cover denial, which makes them excellent support units for your Rifles. The Flamethrower punishes units hiding in cover, and then the Barbed Wire and vet 1 destroy cover effects make sure they aren't using it again for a while. (if ever) Finally, very few people play around their M6 mines and Demo traps. They are so rare that people just aren't even thinking to watch for a hidden demo trap or mine. People pigeon hole the M10 into a diving TD too much in my opinion. It has 50 range, and still has a 77% chance to pen a Panzer IV (Ost) at max range. While it excels at diving, its perfectly serviceable poking away from range. The beauty of the M10 though is definitely its cost. With M10s, you can safely go into M20 + Stuart early game, skip the captain, and still have a check for their Panzer IV out in time. You get all the map control benefits that double LV provides, without sacrificing your T3 timing. If your early game goes well, you can skip the M10 entirely and just go straight to a Sherman. Funnily enough, its also possibly the only unit that can really make good use of the Elite Crew Thompsons, pulling up alongside isolated setup teams and wiping them at short range. The cheap cost means its very easy to go into double M10 + double Scott shockingly fast, and 4 fast vehicles can give Axis fits. Eventually you will probably want to transition to Jacksons, but I'm rarely ever unhappy to have M10s, and its another unit I think people would think more highly of it was available in another doctrine. The 105 is probably where the doc sinks in my opinion. Its certainly no Brummbar, and I know during the commander patch I was lobbying hard to have its indirect buffed more than a vet 1 barrage. A good indirect ability without needing vet would have potentially let armor see the light of day in team games, as thats the biggest hole in the USF roster there. Unfortunately, no one is interested in giving USF a super Scott. (can't imagine why :D ) It does have a few advantages over the Brummbar though. While the cannon does less damage, it still does enough to 2 shot most units and setup teams, and has a higher rate of fire. It lacks the incredible armor of the Brummbar, but the Smoke and Turret are often good enough to get it in and in a dangerous position. The biggest problem to me is honestly that the stock Sherman is already very strong vs infantry, and far easier to accurately force fire. Unless you need to wipe AT guns from the front, the stock Sherman just feels like a safer pick to me. On the incredible off-chance we get another patch, I'd really love to see that Indirect made a bit more useful. The 240 barrage is actually really good now. The damage buff and accurate first shot means it now reliably Wipes an LeFH, just like Time on Target Barrage. The difference is that for only 20 more munitions than Time on Target, you still get 6 more 240mm Shells. Additionally, for whatever reason, the 240mm Barrage has comically low friendly fire damage, (especially compared to Railway Artillery) so its safe to advance through during the barrage. Its not an ability thats going to light the world on fire in 1v1, but its a very good ability in team games. Elite Crews aren't terrible, but they certainly aren't exciting either. The extra repair and faster vet is best with LVs in my opinion, rapidly reaching the vet 2 repair speed buff on the vehicle crews to maximize their uptime. Again, Its not surprising that this doc doesn't see the light of day that much. Its units don't gel that well with each other, and its units and abilities are usually only good in either 1v1 or teamgames, but not both. While C tier is probably the correct place for it, I do think parts of it are more maligned than they deserve to be.

Great informative and thoughtful text! R u sure ass eng have better RA though? I know it's a little bit outdated but according to serealia it's 1% in favor of riflemen. Let me know if you feel like adding me on steam. I too like to look into stats and think a lot about units.

Mechanized Doomed. I think at least WC51 get back one of those two. Disembarkment or .50Cal's 45 Range. And Mechanized's Reserve armor must be returned.

Unpopular opinion here: I believe that Armor company should be A tier. Ass Engi with rifle support can bully axis early game and quite solid mid-game with bar. Remember that the Bar gains close range damage so, with Armor company, I usually fight close range which makes ass Engi very useful. The M10 provides cheap AT to counter P4 and scare off heavier stuff or suicide charges. Bulldozer deals way more damage than Scott so I don't know what kind of liquor you was drinking. 240mm can scare off units and deals massive damage if the enemies got hit
@elpern
@elpern 2 года назад
Thank you for your opinion! Obviously there is optimal use cases for every commander, and comparing these you'll realize that armor company is extremelly subpar. Scott virtually does almost everything better than the dozer, and the assault engineers is probably the worst cqc unit usf has access to. With that said, it's stil adding stuff to the roster but comparing these its the worst one imo

@@elpern I don't think it is fair that you just compare the power, not the purpose. M10 is useful when you don't want to spend much fuel and go suicidal charges, quickly overwhelm the axis heavy tanks, flank them, go find the arties, and cause havoc in the backline. Non of USF is cheap enough to funtion the way M10 does Bulldozer is used to fight alongside infantries. It charges with your infantries, kills MG, fortifications, enemies' troops so your troops can advance and it also works with the M10 really well. Quickly kills AT guns so M10 can charge. The Scott on the other hand is a long-range support tank. You use it to chip away the enemies before advancing. Its low health and armor means that you can't charge it with your infantries Ass Engi brings many utilities such as fixing stuff, lays mine, defensive structure and as a 0 CP, it comes early and helps you bully the sturmpios that often want to close the distance This is what a true Armor Company charge is like: Major uses recon so you can drop 240 a bit behind the enemy's line so he will not like to backup. Then charge the Bulldozer with your infantries to smoke or just bomb anything that can suppress the troops. When the AT or tanks shows up, Bulldozer will smash the AT guns which allow your M10 to surround enemies' tanks. Your infantries will quickly close the gap with the enemies, snare, kill, do all the things they can while you try to maneuver the M10 out of the fight. When you deal enough damage, retreat everything. That is just with the units from the doctrine. You can combine with Jackson staying at the back to shoot enemies' tanks when they are confused by the Wolverine while your Scott can provide long range support before and in the charge.
@korayven9255

@@scorpiontdalpha9799 The power is important since the Company's abilities generally revolve around early all-ins. Ass Engies, while useful, are squishy, lack snares, and fall off _hard,_ M10s _require_ flanking and critical mass since they're basically faster, flimsier Stugs with horrible long-range pen, and honestly the Dozer Sherman just feels awkward as it tries to combine the functions of a normal Sherman and the Scott without doing either of their duties particularly well. For most situations I'd honestly have one or the other instead, and that's generally the issue with the Commander: other options exist with more overall strategic flexibility.
@scorpiontdalpha9799
@scorpiontdalpha9799 2 года назад
@@korayven9255 Fair enough, however, I don't trust the normal Sherman as much as the Bulldozer one. Sometimes, my normal Sherman fires a HE shell in the middle of a Gren squad and deals close to non damage. I am totally serious. Sometimes, Sherman shot deals heavy damage to infantries, sometimes it misses a bit but deals no damage anyway and some other times it hit but still do no damage I find the "Regular Sherman can do better than Bulldozer" quite weird as I have always seen the Bulldozer does way better at killing infantries which is the main mission than the regular one.
@korayven9255
@korayven9255 2 года назад
@@scorpiontdalpha9799 Yeah, it does, but at same time the Dozer's projectile can be iffy to use and the tank itself moves and shoots slower. Might just be me but I find the regular Sherman better at confirming wipes as a result.
