Wanted to see if there was a noticeable difference in performance with the Cohesion 3D control board in the K40. Setup with lightburn to control the monport CO2 and very happy with the results.

Glad to see you are getting better results. Sounds like you are going to have to rewire your limit switches back to the original setup to get them to read correctly. As to homing that's a setting in lightburn to pick where you want it to home at. I think you're going to be really happy with the results once you have things worked out. On that first engrave where you were at 200 and 10% you could have upped your power to around 25% and it would have come out looking really nice. I typically run around 125mm/s to 150mm/s for doing engraving on leather with around 5-6 mA and get great looking results. Looking forward to seeing more of your testing.

hope you get cutting soon. I had gotten used to light burn before getting our Monfort.

How do you like it?

@@KLRform hooked it up and burnt a piece of leather. It was terrible because I used my xtool 20w settings. the engraving cut it to shreds. I'm getting the settings a little better and I think it will be great.

did you figure out what was happening with the homing?

Yes. I had to return the limit switches back to stock settings.

did you return the limit switches to their original configuration?

Not yet. Haven’t gotten the machine to attempt to home yet. When that works I will be able to see if I need to change them back.
@appahman
@appahman Год назад
@@KLRform This is why it doesnt home. if its expecting normal open, and it experiences normally closed signal it believes its home already. this might also screw with your cutting and coordinate systems if you use relative or absolute coordinate systems. a quick confirmation is to hold down one or both of the limit switches with a piece of tape (and stop the machine with estop before it crashes)
@appahman
@appahman Год назад
that is, tape the limit switches shut (which would open the circuit) and see if the board tried to home the machine. this is dangerous because then there are no switches to tell the board when its home, so it will push the gantry to the limits non stop because now it thinks its far from home... (spiderman jokes) be quick on the e-stop as you dont want to crash the machine, then you can disconnect and properly wire them.

@@appahman I will give that a test. Thanks for the info.

@@KLRform You will have to do that, I installed the Omtech Board, After the repair on the limit switch wiring, I was up and running with the Omtech in about a hour. It performed well with Lightburn. Setup was easy with LB...........

Why did you feel the need to switch control boards?
@KLRform

Wasn’t happy with the performance and wanted to do a comparison.

@@KLRform was it worth the cost and if so, how is it better? thanks
@KLRform
@KLRform Год назад
@@stevespringer8385 we think so but still learning. The monport board seems to be slower transmission rates and can’t keep up with faster movements. Also has to set the power higher to get any output from the laser. With the cohesion it goes into the laser as a straight swap and not a rewire. So you still use the power control on top.
