Greattt! The Monport C02 is a solid machine, and I've been really happy with its overall performance. Recently, I had to replace the limit switch, and I was impressed with how easily I could access it and swap it out. The process was straightforward and clearly marked, which is a huge plus for someone like me who isn't a mechanic.
How do you know if the switch is bad? I bought 2 new ones (my dime after no response from Tech Support) for my 60W as well and have the machine tore apart as I type. Both of my switches light up. are in the exact same position as yours but 1) at startup, the head goes to home and starts jackhammering trying to go past the limit switches. Also, both of my switches get hit by something and lean over no matter how low I take them. If you get a Monport, prepare to be inside of it regularly.
Hi I hope you got it working in the end, as it wasn't working well. My k40 ( more like k25 , its the mini one with 600mm tube ) will cut 3mm ply and 3mm mdf at 20mms at 13mA in 2 passes, if I slow down to 12mms it cuts in 1 pass.
NO NOT BUY A MONPORT LASER. They have NO support. There are 3 numbers listed on there Website as post sells support. NEITHER one number answers. Ever. You have to summit cases via an email link and WAIT. When, if, they contact you then it's a 24 email and wait. For days. If you have an urgent production issue like we did, you are screwed. We spent $1,000 on a CO2 laser and it's DEAD after a week when a runaway Z movement sent it into the honeycomb crunching the laser head. We are STILL waiting on Tech Support help over a week later.
I loved your video. Based on the size, do you think it will fit thru a standard door? I don't have a garage but I have a spare bedroom I use for my lasers. I'm looking to upgrade to a CO2.
I think I would use your advice/experience and will try to get bigger machine (well looking for something up to 2028) ;D for now I am choosing first laser but those k40 seems very limited and probably bigger worth the investment. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video guys. I started having constant stoppages every 3 minutes. So, followed your tips (except for the sock) and took the makita router out - opened it up and gave it a deep dust clean with a small air compressor, added 2 fat ferrite chokes to the makita power cord near the router itself. moved the hanging router power cord a little further away from the main drag chain and also flipped the router 180 degrees so the power cord now points away from the controller box & short drag chain. So far so good - just finished a 20min carve with no disconnect. I also find that making sure your computer doesn't sit idle for more than 10mins - essentially keeping the computer awake also helps. The way forward is to give the router a regular deep dust cleaning - monthly.
So I installed this board today exactly how you have. Lightburn begins to communicate... says Homing then nothing and steppers are hot AF. I fired up LASERGRBL and it works and is controllable (ignoring reverse Y axis)... But for the life of me cannot get lightburn to even add it or have it show up at all :(
You always forget to show how to resolve the confusion of 7 different but identically named printers, mainboards, chip sets etc. in your "simple" explanations. These videos don't help at all.
I have not used my k40 for a while now. I have other lasers, but this looks like a fun upgrade. I used to use the k40 whisperer. I wanted to try the meerk40t software but my nano board stopped working.
My upgrade path matched yours only my K-40 came lightburn compatible. I really liked my k-40 but it was just to small. My diode laser was a total bust. The support was helpful but I just couldn't get it to work correctly. The Monport K-40 came with chiller that didn't increase the cost much. The 16x24 60w is a 100% win. It came with auto focus and I didn't need to adjust anything. I checked the Laser alignment and it was spot on. I love that machine very much.
Hey great video but are you able to help me I messed up my machine settings and the company won’t tell me what they are my laser is going crazy and my axis is flipped and it keeps geinding I just need someone with the machine to lmk what the settings are I would appreciate it and I would donate to channel if helped
Ooooh Weller! Great choice and in a proper Glencairn glass too. lol Lasers and whisky. I think we just became best friends 😋 Quick question about the laser. I see you just got yours but do you think you can fit a rotary in there. Spec's say 9.8". The 4 wheel rotary might work with a Glencairn but a 20oz tumbler? I want to buy that size laser but i'm worried about the Z height. Just found your channel. Sub'd! Thanks.
The issue with glens in the laser is the curve. You have to warp the design to it will laser correctly. I think most times it’s done with blasting. Also I think they make a rotary for this one. I would need to look into that more.
I have had my Monport 20 X 28 60 watt CO2 laser with autofocus for more than a month. I was experiencing jobs stopping before they are completed, and strange behavior with the laser. It will wander off the line when cutting, and then return and finish the cut, but the piece has been ruined. I am having similar problems when engraving. I use Lightburn connected by USB. I understand that using USB can cause problems. I have read that the best way to connect is via ethernet. I ran a network cable from my router to the laser. There is no indication of link or data at the connector. I checked the Admin page in my router to look at the list of connected devices and the laser does not show up. I verified that the network cable is good by connecting a laptop to the network cable. It shows link and data indicators on the laptop. I am also able to see the laptop in the list of connected devices. I set the IP address in the Ruida controller on the laser as recommended. I had intended to do a reserved IP address for the MAC address in laser. Even just plugging in the laser should have generated a DHCP IP address in the router, and I should be able to see it in the list of connected devices in the router. I have contacted Monport support repeatedly, and I get what appears to be an “automated” or “AI” reply that uses some of the words in my support request, but provides no real help. One of the reasons I bought the Monport laser aside from price and good reputation was the promise of US based support. I have called the US Support number, and each time I get a message that the mailbox is full and cannot accept any more messages. It offers me the opportunity to send an SMS message, but I never get a call back. They asked me to send a video of the problem. What is the point of sending a picture of a network port that does not show link or data lights? It’s just a delaying tactic. They asked me to check the software. I am assuming that they mean the firmware in the laser. They do not provide any documentation or procedure, or even what is the most current version of the software. I now have a very expensive laser that I can’t use because it is malfunctioning. It should be very easy for Monport to send a new Ruida controller and I will install it. The delay in getting any kind of a response from them, except the “automated” response is even more frustrating. I am looking into my legal options to return the machine, and get a refund. Since it is past the 30 day window for a return I’m sure they will not be helpful. I intend to contact the Attorney Generals Office in my state to find out what I can do. I don’t expect that anyone on RU-vid can help, but I offer this as a caution to anyone who was considering purchasing from Monport.
