Important to note: the side quests don't automatically scale up upon beating the story, it is the toggling on of mayhem mode that does it. This means if you were to turn mayhem off, the missions would go back down to level 16 or whatever it was.
which is absolutely fantastic that any unique or boss drop has the potential to be a max level end game viable item. not to mention mayhem modes are actually worth playing on like diablo torment levels. would love to see gearbox add mayhem level exclusive drops like skins, heads, and gear.
@@carsonkouts thats always been the case in previous games; TVHM (new game+) and OP (Whats called mayhem now) have scaling enemies while normal mode hits a level cap.
I personally loved the game but ive never held Borderlands to a high standard. As far as straight gameplay goes it has to be one of the most enjoyable games ive played in the last few years. Although I think if they could pull off bringing a tales from the borderlands style story to the next entry it'd be a goty contender
The gameplay is so much smoother than borderlands 2. So many more guns to choose from and each gun had a unique feel. The story was ok I guess, but I liked borderlands 2 story better. Handsome Jack was such a good villain compared to the calypsos.
They need a better villian like Handsome Jack level from BO2. Thats one of the things I like from the previous title and the new villians in BO3 are kinda weak tbh.
Same. I tried getting into 1 and 2 but just couldn't. Don't know why but I just can't get into the game. I tried solo at my own pace and with my brother and I just can't :\
Love the game, but the optimization has been horrible. frame drops, rubber banding, crashing, visual glitches, menu bugs, hud bugs, weapon bugs, the whole shabang. It's a fun game, but it needs some fixing.
and this should not be acceptable, nor the norm but it seems more and more games do this. shitty buggy launches accepted by everyone and you pay 60+ euros for it to be a qa tester. i'm sure the game will be fixed in time, but I for one am sick of these practices
I am enjoying the game. My playthrough has not had any catostrophic failure. But I frequently have sound drop outs, escort quests stopped several times on most of those quests. Overall I would say get the game if it is your thing, but maybe give it a month to get cleaned up.
you wont loose your save files if you dont tell epic to overwrite them. Sometimes the cloud is desynched and it asks you what save files to loose, they lost them because they picked the older files file file file
I’m a fan of the Borderlands universe and series but lost my zest for actually playing them. Like, I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far but at the same exact time don’t have any interest in personally playing it. Trustworthy review as always, Cohh! I can expect a level-headed and honest review from you every time and I appreciate that so much. No fluff, just reporting the important details. I dig it.
The villian choice was the biggest negative for me. I sometimes was annoyed with the Calypsos but never really hated them. The game overall was amazing but some story elements kept it from 10/10. One of my favorite franchises and hope more games to come.
Yeah, and few things also, SPOILERS!: Did not like Liliths power losings scene, i mean she is a veteran killer, and now stopped to be amazed and suprised by an enemy. Mayas death scene also, and why did they not kill the kid at that moment also was a weird plot, i mean why not. Side note: i have not yet completed the story.
I'd say the story started strongish, but didn't keep the appeal. The opening isn't nearly as memorable as 2, but it has some good references. The pacing after the first part hurts the momentum the beginning had going, and continually stumbles as it progresses. , I might have explored more upon the differences this game takes in presenting the environments, especially after the first part. Instead of a simple loading screen, add some details or a cutscene that builds upon the world. As others have mentioned, a story with the pacing and engagement of Tales, would have solidified this a recommendation. Also, it's a good thing spaceships don't have weapons.
About the save file issue: I've had a few popups while starting up BL3 that said my save files were out of sync... the cloud save and the local save. Usually the cloud save is outdated by ~12 hours, and I think people are losing their progress simply because they're choosing the wrong option without reading. Please, please, please read the prompt all the way through and if you're on PC I highly recommend you back up your game save like CohhCarnage said. Go to My Documents > My Games > Borderlands 3 > Saved > SaveGames and your folder should be there. Copy and paste that somewhere else when you can.
I’ve never given borderlands a shot because it is a very laid back game. Now that I’m older and don’t have much time to play, this game is perfect. Hop in, get some killing done, then hop out. Level 14 right now and I’m loving it.
@Teebles Isn't buying the game also supporting a shitty company? You are still giving money to the people who decided to take the deal with Epic because of the money. Buying the game on Steam isn't really going to send a lesson to people who decide to accept the Epic deal, because they still get money either way. You are just not supporting Epic, but it's not like Epic decided on this deal alone, two parts/companies had to agree with it
@Teebles choosing not to buy the game on epic hurts you and only you. Gearbox had to make the game an exclusive so they could get their payday without leaning on lootboxes. You should be thankful to buy a pristine game on epic instead of a godawful mess on steam.
@@andrewbrink2213no He can just download it online once the crack is out. Like you said Gearbox has already made it's money anyway plus we don't have to be giving our money to a horrible company like Epic. Everything works out.
Most of the people having fps problems are either mistaking it for ping and connection issues online, or they haven't tried smoothed 22-60 fps. I have a med pc with shit ram, and I've ran this game smooth almost the entire time, only lag I get is when im shooting a gun scoped in and it has a ton of effects or like 20 explosions are going on.
I play on PS4 so i've not had the issues many have. My main complaint so far (around 20 hours in right now) is the humour and writing. I knew we weren't going to match Handsome Jack, but the new antagonists are pretty weak in comparison. A lot of the jokes just fall flat. Otherwise though this game is great.
This game has a good few bugs that are extremely annoying. At one point, my Amara just stopped doing damage with her action skill. Even when looking at the description, it said 0 damage. Took restarting the game. Normally not a massive issue but I Was playing with people and I was the leader. Had to kick everyone out and get everyone back in. I've also been invisible to people in my party. Online seems to be fairly buggy in regards to melee (and shooting from time to time). I know my melee is connecting on screen but it doesn't do damage and then the enemy relocates two feet away. I'll get no damage when shooting from time to time but that's a lot more rare. I'm had my gun disappear and only able to come back by going into my inventory. I have more bugs I could list, but you get the picture. It's buggy. With all that being said, I'm level 36, been grinding side quests, and pretty close to the end of the game. I love this game and will continue to play it despite these bugs. I don't know how many of them are online based because I have yet to play solo. Maybe A lot of those issue are just part of connectivity issues. I'm thinking so. Love this game. Looking forward to bug fixes asap and DLC in fall!
@@OmgItzCOLTON I finally finished the story with my buddy so I'm going to start playing the game solo. I'm hoping to experience those issues disappearing. I have noticed that a lot of the issues only happen when he is party lead. When I was party lead, I had far fewer issues.
Only thing i did not like about the game Denuvo if PC online purchased eats a lot of disk space 50GB just for Denuvo, game is only 20GB if PC DVD full game. i think Denuvo also breaks game cause PC DVD version game runs fine on a medium end Laptop A10 with NVDIA 610. On My Rhyzen 7 PC with RX 590 vid card runs crap it has the epic store version
Hey Cohh, new fan of your streams. I tuned in for fire emblem and 999. Watched every second and you are a joy to watch. I'm glad you had fun with borderlands 3 even though it's not for me. Can't wait to watch VLR or whatever else you get into!
I'm a level 50 FL4K, and my playthrough so far has been really gratifying. All of my expectations have been met, and I think that's because my expectations were realistic like yours. I really hate seeing the game get slammed though. I've had my fair share of bugs, but for the most part only one-time occurrences and could always be fixed with a savequit and reload. I've had some of the pictures of weapons get mixed up in my backpack and one time I even spawned under the map at the end of my playthrough. That one was pretty bad, but again all I needed to do was reload and I haven't heard it happen to anybody else, so I was probably an outlier. That being said, seeing all the bad reviews really hurts because I feel like it's stopping a lot of potential fans from getting into the game. Little do they know that the cons most of them talk about barely impact the game at all. : (
@@cosmokramer7062 After beating the story, I just turned on the Mayhem modes and slowly worked my way up to Mayhem 3 and farmed one of the bosses. I went from level 32 to 50 in like a day. If your goal is to level, then I suggest saving the side quests for after you beat the story missions. If you progress through the campaign as fast as possible, earning money and loot will be a lot more rewarding at level 32 as opposed to 11.
Coming from a big Borderlands fan, I wasn't enjoying my first playthrough much until I unlocked Mayhem mode. Now I'm gonna try and go through TVHM as fast as I can so I can experience what Mayhem mode is like at level 50.
Drove more nails into the coffin? Game sold insanely good already in EGS. Most of the people do not care those actions. Only loud minority in social media trash it and of course youtubers who need those clicks.
I got a really nice pc and borderlands 3 doesn't run wel on it, alot of stuttering, framedrops and fluctuating frametimes. I expected a release date for a performance patch but haven't heard of anything from the devs, could be wrong tho (not on twitter and all that jazz). My PC specs are: 9900k, RTX 2080 ti, 32 gigs of ddr4 RAM at 3200 Mhz, 2x samsung 970 PRO 1 Tb drives. The above mentioned specs are not to "flex", but to give an idea that even if you have a good PC, it could have the problems i'm experiencing. That doesn't mean i'm not enjoying the game, but experiencing stutters in the middle of a fight is not so great for the immersion aspect.
Had this too. I have to run it in DX11 to get rid of the weird stuttering (especially when opening chests) and with volumetric fog either off or on medium to smooth FPS. Everything else is ultra.
i've been playing moze and she has some major bugs with one of her skill trees that fucks up weapon reloading severely. it can stop reloads entirely and cause your gun to become uselesss and with one of my weapons she'd never reload to more than 3 bullets when it had a mag size of like 37
I love the gameplay but do agree with the story being pretty meh, a lot of it was predictable and it felt very exposition heavy, also this has the worst villains in a bl game to date, I never found them funny, I just found them really annoying.
Gearbox had said that they wanted to make the villains the opposite of jack in the sense of that they made the villains so annoying and so hated compared to jack cause he was a lovable douche
I agree. Maybe it's the characters themselves (the writing) or I grew out of it or both, but I feel the same too. Some moments I like hearing the character's banter and jokes. But there are too many times where characters actually get annoying and I just want them to shut up. It just becomes noises and yelling in the background in some points of the game.
As someone who adores the Borderlands franchise, I can definitively say that the story of BL3 is TERRIBLE. Just because you expect mediocre writing at best doesn't mean you have to stomach and tolerate steaming garbage in the script. The story was bad, easily the worst in the entire set, even BL1. Almost every word said seemed to have no thought put in to them, there was no cleverness or comedy tossed in at all. I (like most) didn't expect the new GOD of WAR to be created, but I expected there to be something better than two charmless hipsters spewing butt jokes with a collective two neurons firing in their skulls. They didn't even follow the obvious story-line they laid out: the game is supposed to be about the vault hunters and their journey in and with the Crimson Raiders finding and fighting a galaxy full of Vaults, but the whole game was centered around Lilith, Tannis, and a unless side character the game would have been better off without and their hot-potato of superpowers. The rest of the game excluding the story is exactly how you put it: great fun and a step-up from the previous, but that shouldn't make up for the embarrassment of a bad narrative that took SEVEN (7) YEARS to wright. :/
I am almost finished the 1st map on Athena (sp) and I have yet to get 2 guns that are exactly alike. Blown away by the amount of combo's when it comes to the weapons!
BL3 is like coming back to your own family home and realizing your parents have done some major renovations to it. It might've lost it's janky charm and you can't hope to relieve your childhood memories there, but it feels fresh, improved, yet still familiar.
I've been playing Virtue's Last Reward so when Cohh plays it, I know what's going on. I think he's going to love it more than 999. The puzzles are so much harder :o
Yeah, same here. But I didn't play D3 tho, I don't kinda like this game, I though I can force this game, to play it, but its just too bad in my opinion, so I wanna watch cohh play it. VLR is fantastic, but he say he will play D3 first.
Just picked this up last yesterday, and my biggest issue is that controller on PC has some consistent and annoying buggyness in the menus. The map wigs out every time when I first open it up and try to pan across it. I also can't scroll through anything but the first few head options at Crazy Earl and have to switch to a mouse to use his shop.
I am gonna say it: TFTB has a fun story indeed but I'd not call it a quailty product story-wise(also gameplay wise, it's nobrainer). ALTHO they introduced us one of my favorite BL characters so I should thank Telltale I guess...
In case any console players are watching this if you free up enough memory like double the size of the game it runs way better I can't say about split screen yeah if your memory on your console is mostly full it's going to be bog down slow
@@kuolemanlaakso1696 you do realize that I've run into this problem before menus and all the rest slowing down in a game and this is the solution that works for me and it does make sense considering they said you need at least double the amount of memory then the game is for it to download as fast as possible it was on Twitter and the Vault Hunter website so it stands to reason that giving my past experience and what they suggested for you to even install this game on a console makes sense
@@kuolemanlaakso1696 oh and this is true because I deleted some stuff and the game operated better and the same effect on other games I own and this has worked
@@kuolemanlaakso1696 what I was referring to is because people are complaining about slow down and menus and gameplay. I was not referring to online because I am a solo player for the most part
if your console's memory is full, this is decent advice, but you should never go above 70-80% of your maximum storage anyway because that'll definitely slow down any machine So, fundamentally flawed premise.
Yeah hopefully some proper story DLC and not those stupid cosmetics they released for BL2 plus all that confusion with the GOTY vs. Season pass editions
Omg... i literally watch this as i start BL3 and epic games tells me there was a corruption issue with my save file xD thank god it took my local files and i apparantly didnt lose anything...
MattIsVicious I prolly said it wrong then, cause I meant Jack is one of the best villains in Borderlands history and the Calypso’s are nowhere near him lol They feel like bootleg copies of him actually, so much so that I really thought he was there father as the story went on 😂💀
@@Ynbreezey12 honestly in my opinion, yes jack is the best one, but i wouldnt call the calypso twins the worst ones, mostly because steele in bl1 was just... well a boring character, and pre sequals villan was better than 1 but still really boring to me, she was a little interesting and her story is decent but it just never really got my attention, the calypsos still fall under the catagory for me as annoying but i didnt get as bored of them as i did with steele and zarpadon, even if jack is still the best, thats just my opinion
I am a huge borderlands fan I have played all borderlands games through the the years hundreds of times and borderlands 3 is the best out of all of them and it is exactly what a borderlands game should be!!
It's your own fault. There are two options when epic games asks what you wanna do with your save file. You chose the wrong option sir. Just take your time and read next time :)
I felt that the gameplay was excellent, but the story was disappointing. Handsome Jack was a bit annoying at times, but he could also be very funny. The main villains this time around are not charming or interesting in the least - they are just aggravating to listen to. For me, the story started out weak, gradually became good and interesting with some interesting characters 30% of the way through, but the last 10% really fell flat for me, and the ending was.... well, I was not impressed. It also didn't help that the scaling was ALL OVER the shop towards the end - near the end of the campaign, I was level 38~40 - in some areas in the last planet I was fighting level 27 enemies, in other areas level 36, in others 40. The loot scaling was all over the shop as well, but I can tell you I was massively disappointed when I the end reward for completing the campaign grated me level 33 weapons. I was level 41. They were useless. Still, I had fun with it. The TVHM is excellent. The characters are fun to play as with great skills. The guns are interesting. It plays well. But I honestly think the story ended worse than BL1, and if you played BL1, that's saying something.
Anyone else think the split screen is 100% Ass? BL1 n 2 was so good to couch co op. BL3 can BARELY run on my brothers xbox S when we try Split screen. Solo isnt as bad, just seems very unresponsive at times. UI, map, guns menu.
I'd even go further on criticising the story. Very cliche, VERY predictable - the game foreshadows itself to a horrific level (the moment you meet Ava, you'll work out exactly what is going to happen). Also, several staple characters are missing/absent thus far, and have been replaced by very weak characters (Vaughn, for instance, adds nothing to the story that Brick couldn't have added, albeit it with different lines). The villains are hopelessly overshadowed by Handsome Jack, too. That being said, a certain indoors battle/section on Eden-6 hit me straight in my imagination. The combat on this game is incredible.
I am a huge borderlands fan and besides the bugs and what not it is a fantastic game that have improved the franchise leaps and bounds from the fantastic improved farming system to the fast travel to be able to buy all the ammo at wonce but I gotta say the story is a pretty big let down from what was done in tales from the borderlands the villains are like really bad I hoped they would have exceed jack but no they where a letdown but if you in it for the story there are lots of good quests for lore like really good some made revelations and some sad story’s and over all it’s another borderlands 👌🤙
People bashed this game so hard about how broken it is, I play on PS4 (not pro) and never had any real issues, no frame rate, no glitches, 1 crash during a hot fix, other than that, nothing. It was an amazing experience and I'll be playing it hard till the DLC release.
I'm the same and agree with you. I'm also on PS4 (not pro, just a slim) and i've not had issues really, save for the menu being a bit laggy and stuff like that.
yeah, i decided to play on ps4 for the trophies i get 60 fps most of the times, when it dropes i think it's a memory leak or something because if i restart the game i get 60 fps again, maybe try it on pc too before you go into the obvious big fights maybe it helps.
i think BL1 had the best humor IMO....it was a perfect balance of dark humor and old world logic ....while BL2 was a psychotropic MEME splosion filed with shit & dick jokes....BL3's humor feels like their beating a dead horse half of the time.......i love all of the games and BL3's humor isn't all bad but following up after BL2.. BL3 humor tends to feel a little bit like deja vu some things however never go out of style for instance Zero is still a funny freaking badass.
And the bets thing about borderlands 3, they can add more content. They needed to stop supporting bl2 because old gen consoles were at their limit and couldnt handle more content bl3 wont have that problem next next gen is coming next year
see i have heard that and ive seen some streamers get like 5 to 10 in the first 3 to 5 hours of play but im at 8 hours of play time and only have found 1 guess my luck sucks lol
You have to take into account that gear can have a lot more parts than it had in the previous Boderlands games. So making Legendary gear too rare would make good/perfect rolls way too rare. Edit: But I agree it feels like Legendaries are worth less.
To add to that I must say I would have to disagree there on that cohn. Borderlands 3 humor has outdated humor and excessive butt\fart jokes. The characters are underutilised and lack direction. Just look at ava and the calypso twins. The latter They wouldve been great villains but their personality lost that potential.
Tbh I never had so much fun playing a BL game, this what I dreamed BL2 to be, made me sad to see all this negativity from gamers just because of the Epic store release and some other bs pre-release. Looks like gaming is becoming more rotten than politics, WE PLAY GAMES TO HAVE FUN !!!!
Couldn't agree more! Some gamers are becoming ridiculously entitled. And its not like Steam is perfect either. Me personally dont like Steam at all, but I still buy games I find interesting there.
most people play games nowadays "with their ass" instead of "with their heart"... bigger the IP, bigger the outrage.. I've played game for 3 days almost nonstop (with decent sleep, of course) and I want to play more.. definitely one of the top games I've played lately
Thx for this video, it completely resolves any doubts, I'm definitely not buying this game. The first 2 BLs were already "just ok" and overrated IMO, if this is more of the same, not getting into it.
It's a decent single player game, but pretty fun with friends. The fact that you're both able to progress storylines together is awesome and more games should do the same if they have multiplayer.
Well everybody got their different tastes in video games it just so happened that Borderlands is not yours which I 100% respect but honestly this game is probably the second best game I play this year just behind Spider-Man
yes borderlands brings to people a lot of bugs, keylogger etc. but still is fun to play and come back play better ver of borderlands 1 and second game. Time to come back play better game: Greedfall.
Optimization is basically nonexistent at this point. Constant slowdowns, crashes, horrid bugs and glitches. Essentially an Early Access title at this point, so disappointing
For some reason the gameplay seems screwed up to me, particularly the sniper rifle. The writing is pretty awful. I don't really see how he could say it is better than borderlands 2.
From what I remember of the first one, it started great and then disappointed from there with middling repetitive gameplay. Just got a new gun and 10 minutes later it's useless. That's not fun or interesting, so I didn't finish the game. Then I waited WAY too long to play the second one and stopped about an hour in because it was clear they had no intention of developing the gameplay just rushing out a sequel, and either it just didn't hold up over those years or whatever, but the gunplay was trash right from the get go. I'll wait for this one to get down to $20 and see if they've gotten their stuff together or if they just made another 2009 era game in 2019. Just remembered it was an Epic exclusive, that's why I didn't bother with it at launch, and no wonder people were having their data lost.
Cohh now: BL3 wasnt great, hated the main villain characters, and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is his favorite. Its not that I dont think Cohh felt this way when he made this video, but this video is a prime example of how these videos are very flawed in their execution.
I was just thinking this man BL3 is a good game I agree and most people do agree that the story is not the greatest that's undeniable what I will say is the problem I have with videos like this in particular and this goes with most reviews is that these reviews are made in the timeframe they are made in and most of the time the opinions shared not always are linked to when the video came out BL3 vastly improved over it's lifecycle it has some of the best developer support that I've seen in a game that isn't an MMO they listened to fans the vast amount of patches and hot fixes improved it also there's so much that has been implemented since this and many other videos not to mention the dlc that was released too I feel that a game like this that has had so many fixes and support needs another video I feel someone who wants this game and wants a 2nd opinion from a video like this they're getting an opinion on a game that has only improved since the original post I can only hope wonderlands will get the same 🤞
this game was just a reskin borderlands 2 with better graphics but less content and repetitive mission and meh story, pretty much meh impression after 7 years of wait.
The base game of bl3 is way longer than the base game of bl2. The missions are as they have always been, repetitive but with gameplay that makes them fun.
It so obviously isn't a reskin of anything which you'd know if you actually played the games longer than 5 minutes. There are some things they need to fix but this game is technically far better than Borderlands 2 (even if I prefer 2 overall). Perhaps you should educate yourself next time before commenting utter shite.
Go to check howlongtobeat and you will understand. Borderlands 3 can be finish around 20 hours, main+extra section was only around 27 hours that's only half of the BL2. many review already mentioned those 30 hours is included some of the side quest while BL2 main quest alone already 30 hours long. Fans that already play BL2 would know that BL3 is significantly shorter than 2. This was only my explanation of why i say BL3 is less content. The main problem is the latest borderlands game also nothing revolutionary and the story is meh, imo it's less exciting than the BL2 once giving to me.
The mains villains are absolute garbage, there is NOTHING even the slightest bit interesting about them, and *Spoilers* they kill Maya! The worst send off for one of the best characters... at least Roland died to Handsome Jack who was awesome! Maya might as well have been run over by a sewage truck full of shit.
