They really need to honor vin skully more like this, he’s the best announcer in baseball history coming from a giants fan. 60+ years of announcing, living legend.

Everyone deserves a grandparent, neighbor, teacher, coach, etc. in their life just like Vin Scully at least once. I did, a grandfather, and it contributed greatly to the man I am today.

I've never met or even seen or heard of a person more humble, generous, loving and caring as Vin Scully. He wasn't just the greatest voice in sports history but possibly the greatest example of what it means to be a good human being.

Vin may not be physically around anymore nor in his broadcast seat anymore but his name lives forever at Dodger Stadium and in all of baseball, words from an extreme Dodgers hater.

The TV would be turned off. The radio turned on, my mom would pop popcorn (couldn’t buy it then already popped). Listen to Vince Scully and Jerry Doggett call the game. If we went to the game we took transistor radio so we could still hear them. As a kid never dreaming it would ever end. Rest easy V & J

Costner's speech is so fitting for an icon and a legend. Vin is a man of calmness, his style when big moments happen is that he calls the game as fast a he can and then pause for silence to let his audience feel the roar, feel the chills and live by the moment.

September 25th: A day where we said goodbye to three wonderful people: one who had lived out his life to fullest, giving us a love of golf; to one whose life was cut way to short; to one who we listened to on the radio or TV who now will go one to live out his life. This day will forever be on my heart for a very long time

I grew up in Chicago a Cubs fan and had the likes of Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse who were great in their own right but they were no Vin Scully. Later on I moved out to Los Angeles and while I am still a Cubs fan I was privileged to hear Vin call some games he truly is the master.

Heck of a speech. I grew up with Vin Scully's voice around the house, coming out of garages where men were working on projects as I walked my dog in the evenings, on the car radio and on the radio in our house. A lot of nights, while with my dog, just as I got out of hearing distance of one garage, I came into the hearing distance of the next. It was like I didn't have to miss one pitch as Vin and Jerry Dogget (sp?) called those games. The phrase "swung on and hit to deep center field, Mays goes back, to the warning track, to the wall, sheeee's gone!" is one I heard a lot. Yup, we all brought our "transistor radios" to Dodger Stadium and Vin could be heard even if your didn't bring your own radio to the seats. I first heard him when I was 7, sitting behind the screen in left field watching the Dodgers play at the Coliseum. I moved away from southern California nearly 50 years ago and could hear his voice nearly nightly, but every once in a while would tune a Dodger game in when nighttime propagation was right and the memories would pour in. I miss Vin Scully, he was simply the best.

Slightly trailing speech, but poignant nonetheless. I'm a 32 year old Red Sox fan who feels that baseball has lost a great. My hat is off to Vin Scully and I wish him Gods speed for the rest of his life.

One advantage for Vin Scully is that he voluntarily retired and is getting to hear all the tributes that he would miss if he never quit. Of course that isn't why he retired!
