Here is a neat little fiddle tune reel called, "Cold and Frosty Morning." I think this tune is mostly an American fiddle tune that's played in old-time sessions (and sometimes Irish sessions, too), but I have read some discussions of people thinking it originated from Scotland. I think it does have a Scottish vibe to it, so I wouldn't be surprised if it from there! It's typically played as a fast dance reel, but I think it can sound pretty neat and almost jazzy played as a hornpipe. I think a lot of reels can sound fun played as a hornpipe, but I definitely wouldn't play it like that in a session unless everyone was prepared for it...It's not something most people would expect.
It's been snowing off-and-on this past May here in Colorado, so I thought I'd play this song since it seems to fit with what the weather has been doing. It still sometimes drops below freezing at night and snows, but it heats up during the day, and everything melts away fairly quickly. It snowed about 8 - 10 inches last week, which seems a bit extreme for this time of the year, even though snow isn't uncommon in late spring in Colorado. Since a lot of trees had started to form leaves, they had more surface area to hold the snow, and many branches broke from all the extra weight. =( So far, I haven't seen any trees or branches that have hit people's houses or apartment buildings in my area, so that's good. I noticed that an entire lilac bush broke at its base and fell over, which made me really sad to see. I love lilacs! =(
But I think we're finally about to have warmer weather that stays put! Yay!!! I'm so excited for spring!!! I'm going to start planting flowers soon, and hopefully they will bloom by July.
