I love it when you do calculations! You're the one and only soapmaker I know of that actually shows how to do soapy maths and it helps me out a ton.

Lisa, you are one of the few people that I can follow when you talk about numbers! I love the double checks that you do - it helps me to understand where the numbers come from, and how they all relate to each other. Thank you for a great video!

I’m new to your channel and I am SO THANKFUL on how wonderfully you explained the calculations of shreds to oils. Soapy math can be tricky and having that visual helped me immensely. I love that after soaping for years, you can still learn new techniques.

I shred old soap bars like that to use for washing delicates, the difference from fabric softeners is no compare, wool particularly after I have spun up a few skeins its get every bit of dirt and oil out but leaves the wool soft and super clean. Sorry bit off topic!

Love that you do the math as well! I've always struggled with math :( I'm putting confetti in the bottom layer of my soap loaf, could I just calculate once, taking out the total weight of confetti & embed I'm using (your formula) and then just take out (estimate) enough to mix with the shreds?

Lisa these are beautiful, I find it very frustrating that you can’t use soap scraps from other soaps, It just creates so much waste. I wonder if you’re using scraps from another soap that has the same base recipe (same oils and lye) would that also be a problem? I saw some UK soap sellers selling their scraps in a soap scrub bags, as a way to reduce waste and to use up all the scraps they have. I usually use my scraps to make confetti soap for family and friends, or I make a whipped soap base from my scraps and add some scrubbing ingredients and make it whipped soap scrub.

Not quite sure why I was so fascinated with the ‘pour’ on this soap, it was so different to a normal pour! That was a lot of confetti!
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Год назад
Yes, it was more of a runny blob, it's funny though as you mix it in it seem so thick then everything gets mixed and you get to the point where it all goes a little fluid. well fluid enough to get it pretty flat

Hey Shonna, lovely to see you. It's this one, I'm sure the US Amazon would have something similar www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FGFBC5W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Regulations, well, I'm all for a nit of control but they go too far here and to be honest it's not actually the government regulations that give the main restrictions, we have to comply with the rules, but it's the cosmetic chemist who make it tough where they refuse to certify a recipe with any flexibility, they won't let you submit something where you say I'd like to use up to 1g of this mica, you have to say the exact amount, or I'd like to use these 4 micas with a choice of which. There's no reason for it as they will approve 4 recipes with all of those things in but charge for each variant you make. Flexible assessments do exist, but for things the assessors make themselves, so you have to buy their recipes, so they can do it, they just won't because they can make lots of money by charging every time
@cydrych
@cydrych Год назад
I was wondering if you know why my steel blue mica looks beautiful in the oil until I add the lye solution and then it turns a dirty grey? Is it just one of those things that happens with certain micas? I bought a set with multiple colors and have used a few different ones that all worked until this one. Thanks in advance.

Hello, what do you do with your scarps since you're not allowed to make confetti soap from them?
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Год назад
Things have changed a little where we can get assessments that are a bit more flexible, so I can now use different amounts of colours in a batch, so nowadays as long as I record the batch numbers and keep everything separated I can use shreds from a previous soap in the same assessment, as long as I am using one of my flexible assessments, but I can't mix soaps scraps from different assessments.

SoapCalc will tell you. No one can answer your question but your quantity of ingredients and a soap calculator. - please don’t miss out this step. I’m sure you must be using one already to make your past recipes. If you want the recipe found in this video you might have to buy Lisa’s assessment.

When you add the shredded soap and count it as your fat, how does that work when it isn’t 100% fat and there is lye in it already? I’m very new to soap making, so this confuses me. Subtracting that much fat in the recipe that will bring the shreds, would it now be lye heavy? Your soap is beautiful!
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 10 месяцев назад
Hi, I'm not treating the soap as fat. I'm treating it as soap. So for example if you normally use a recipe with 1000g if fat and 250g lye. If I want the add shred, let's say it weighs 200g. I reduce the rest of the recipe I need, so I would end up with something like 850g of oil and 200g lye.

I got in as far as 9 mins and saw a flaw in your calculations, your using slightly cured soap so had less water/more oil in the soap but the good news is it makes no difference to the end result )
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Год назад
HI, thanks for you r comment, you are right in that normally you may use slightly cured soap, but I don't in my confetti soap. I make my soap for my confetti fresh and then use that. If someone was to use a more cured soap, the calculations would still work and give a good level for the soap. Trying to get people to take into account the water loss on top of calculations that many often struggle a bit with may be a step too far and put people off trying, but you are correct that there would be some water loss if you're using cured soap.

Total Batch Weight (Oils, Lye Solution, FO) - Weight of Shreds = New Batch Weight.
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap Год назад
Not quite, you need to account for the oils in the shred, if you did that calculation and took off the full weight of your shred (or embed) not the oil weight your soap would be too small.
