I got my dad's 4230 running last month (August). Probably sat for 8 years. After a lot of head scratching, realized it had been rewired to take 2 12 volt batteries in parallel instead of the 6 volts in series. Fresh fuel and filter, bled the lines and started on first try. Only 1200 hours on the meter, though. Starter motor spun a lot faster than in the video. THEN the problems... Dry rotted injector boots sprayed fuel after 30 minutes of running.
Same...... we had a 4230 that was absolutely hard to start from day one. Anything below 50 degrees......... and it sounded just like the one in the video. We got over 10,000 on it........ so I guess thats just the way they were.
The old John Deere tractors were meant to be cold started with ether. They literally came from the factory with ether solenoids installed so you could push a button to inject a shot of ether into the intake. If they didn't have a fancy button then there was a little port next to the steering wheel to inject ether into
Engine in that 4230 is shot, they are a little cold blooded I own two of them, but they are both low hours original but that is the worse one I've ever seen, definitely time for a in or out of frame rebuilt injectors and pump replacement
