Espada XL is my favorite knife of all time. I have two of them, the original and the G10 version. Both of them are excellent and I love carrying them whenever possible. Definitely has that awesome factor that never gets old.

I commend Cold Steel for making the Espada which is hands down the best combat folder ever made. A good knife for self defense needs to be large for reach and deep cuts, heavy for penetration power and razor-sharp. Just the size will intimidate the crap out of most attackers. @Noah Vinkel Hansen By that reasoning you should be driving a truck full of counter-measures for things that are way more likely to occur. Relative risk is a thing. Most people don’t realize they are more likely to die from infection due to a hamster bite, than from say a shark attack - and even more so in traffick on the way to the beach. But no - lets get a HUUUGE diving knife, in case we need to duel a whitetip. If you want to be rationally justified in what you are proposing you should consider relative risk, before anything else and THEN choose what to carry. But some people just find it sexier run about with a big knife “just in case” and talk on the phone while driving and eating a bunch of shit that will in all likelyhood grant them a swift death from a car crash or general obesity anyway, than to actually be situationally aware and reasonable. In fact a fair amount of people - some happy gun owners - would be better off permanently strapped to a portable heartstarter a cylinder of O2 and with a quality GPS locator device embedded in their scalp. Frankly most people would be safer wearing a bicycle helmet, than carrying a knife, if given the choice. Hey - maybe a bullet proof vest and a helmet, just in case? Or a full set of plate armour. You could waddle safely away from any knife fight wearing that. Or you could stay at home - in a bunker, that seems very safe, never mind the fungus. But I digress - of course everyone is so skilled at knife fighting these days, so there is absolutely no increased risc they will actually get disarmed and end up with their own blade in their gullet because they opted to escalate with the wrong person in one of them “supposed-to-end-all-show-of-force-displays”. Because we all know that a fight instantly stops when you draw a knife and we all know that in the rare event that someone should still advance all you need to do is reach out and poke them and they lie down instantly and give up the ghost. Personally I carry a full dynamite belt and I have the black belt in terrorist grimacing, so anytime anyone disagrees with me I nonverbally convince them I am ready to nuke the whole place. Just in case. It’s the ONLY way to be sure.
@Noah Vinkel Hansen Sounds like you have a reasonable dad xD. Don’t get in any knife fights now. Thinking so much about it and carrying a blade is likely to increase the risk. And not only are fights different for a long list of reasons. They are also unpredictable regardless of your level of training. And you mostly don’t need XL anything for the jobs you might encounter within the bounds of civilsation. And if you are venturing outside of civilisation - don’t bring just a folder but something more broadly useful. Dad level 99 or not? =.O

i got the Large version as a edc, best knife i ever owned, does everything i need from edc cutting to defensive purposes and it does it all Looking like the king of knives! Only problem i have with it is that i spend alot of time polishing it haha!
@Vela S no it's not. Ask any pro knife fighter. With the Espada I would take on anybody with a 3.5 inch blade which most civilians carry. Its also comfortable to carry and no difference to a 3.5 inch folder. A good knife for self defense needs to be 1. large for reach and deep cuts. 2. heavy for penetration power and 3. razor-sharp. Just the size alone will intimidate the crap out of most attackers.

Rusty Shackleford Navaja really just means folding knife, the blade types can vary. A Bowie Knife is also a pretty broadly defined term but usually means a large, fixed blade knife featuring a clip point. So a "folding Bowie knife" sounds about right here... Don't try to school someone unless you know what you're talking about dumb-ass.
These guys at Cold Steel must love bacon a lot!!!!😜😝😆. There's this movie with Scott Adkins and Marko (Chilean martial arts) and I think Marko uses one of this knives.
Cold Steel folding knives are amazing. If they had a mechanism that prevented one to accidentally push on the button that closes and opens the knife, they would be the folding knives that are closest to fixed blades (except for butterfly knives, of course).

For me honestly it's not giant pocket sword knives that I worry about, it's the tiny little ones you can't see and don't know they are their til you've been cut fifteen times

Mr. Johnson. These videos are insane, over the top, and graphic. My question to you is, why don't you have your own reality tv or cable show? Something like "Fight Science" completely devoted to the different properties of your knives, testing them, and best way to do use them.
And the sliding knife is illegal in Canada. For some reason, they don't want you to be able to pop out the blade ; they want you to open it up manually.
