The GRN on the Voyager (deep diamond), Range Boss ("skateboard tape"), and Mini 1 (pretty smooth) are all different despite probably using the same Grivory handle material. Spyderco's Delica handle is the gold standard IMHO. Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 won't tear up the hand as a daily cardboard cutter, but if it's intended as a budget Emerson it should be a lot grippier, and both the Voyager and Range Boss show it can be done. Thanks for the disassembly.
I have an older Mini Recon 1 with a coated CTS-XHP blade. I'm not usually a fan of coated blades, but this one is exceptional🤩 Spyderco Native 5, Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 and Manly City, that's the holy trinity of knife utility for me👌
Oh dang!!! I’ve never seen that Manly City before that looks like a great knife!! I had a Manly Peak...really wish I wouldn’t have traded that one! Thanks for the comment.
I got the airlite, great knife. As for the back spring tension, I watched on RU-vid Knife Beater(?). Leave it open at max point for 2 days and it “relaxes” the spring bar…I tried it and it works
I received mine March 2022. Just the opposite of the example in the video. Next to impossible to open. It feels Like the pivot is locked-up and the washers are made out of sandpaper. I have older Voyagers that operate beautifully but this one is unusable.
Love my mini recon 1 in clip point. Used it today at the range to pick out a few stuck shell casings. It feels like it just wants to be abused like all my other cold steels.
i got the tanto - it has a great looking recasso - of the different profiles - which i- in your opinion - would be best for every day tasks - the clip or spear point
@@jakefromohiostate your a owner of many so your opinion is valuable - i agree with the spear point - i just like the tanto for the front blade's good scraping utility for flat surfaces
I too was surprised at how much I like this little knife. I’ve carried a half serrated aus8 Recon1 for many years but I am fine with this little guy. The action and fit and finish are excellent on mine. It is as smooth as my Ultimate Hunter and that is very nice. Solid lockup and the Triad lock releases with minimal pressure. If you want a backup knife MidwayUSA has the clip point on sale for 31 dollars.
