The Trail Master is a superb blade! I have two San Mai ones. It has fantastic balance and it's very quick in the hand. In spite of its name it's definitely a fighting knife at ❤️!
@@MitigateStress Hi Stress! ;-) Well, unless you use your TM a helluva lot you're hardly likely to need to sharpen it any time soon (I assume you don't need to shave with it!). I also have a TM San Mai III, and it is a truly awesome knife, with perfect fit & finish! [I did however ditch the sheath, and had Rob Evans (Wales) make me a very nice leather sheath with a dangler. ] You cannot sharpen the TM San Mai convex blade with a Lansky. You'd do well to research RU-vid for vids on this, or get an expert to do it. It won't be needed very often, fortunately!
Dont give a crap.... this is your funniest video to date brother 😂😂 awesome blades love them both,, but the way you discribe the assholes are better 😂😂
Have a lot of respect for you brother for ALOT of reasons. However, I will agree to disagree on your cable tang opinion. Glad your's didn't break. I know you don't baby your knives. Honestly, with the amount of money going into that knife, it is baffling to me why they skimped on the cable tang. For that reason alone i never bought one. Sticking to my guns in a manner of speaking. It matters to me. I'd be very willing to pay more for a better tang. It's good until it's not good. That's my opinion, and my consumer vote to not purchase it. I did get the trailmaster in both San mai 3, and cpm3v and they are great. Peace my brother.
The cable tang is fine if this knife is used for what it's made for. Knife fighting. But facts are, Noone is doing that. So a full tang would make more sense. The engineering of the cable tang for reducing vibration is genius though
Just got that Natchez BEASTIE!!! BIG KNIFE! Great blade. The Laredo's next on the list... Why I waited this long to snag one? I have no idea. GREAT VIDEO Donnie!!!
@@DonnieBAllDay I don't have 4-max maybe it really is the best I've heard now they have even 5-max I think it's a little longer blade if I'm not mistaken
The Natchez is totally bad-ass.. if a small sword is what you want to swing around, this is your deal! for everyday carry and camp use, it's hard to beat the TrailMaster, IMO.
I have both and they are master pieces. I'd grab a Japanese san mai trailmaster while you can while they are still being made in Japan by Hattori. My Natchez is 01 and my trailmaster is san mai.
The Natchez is classed as a fighting knife. The cable tang will last forever if used for what's designed to be. Stick tangs though, like the way KA-BAR makes there's, I'm less a fan of because they are sold as utility knives. I haven't had a problem with either, but I've seen those that have
@DonnieBAllDay see I want one for some bush crafting and light machete and axe chores and no matter where I look I either can't find a bowie big enough or if it is it's made out of something like 440 which I won't have. If that trail master had a tang that reaches the edge of the handles it'd be my literal dream knife.
@@sqhatr All of my designs are true full tang bangers in 5160 or 52100. You might love my dbad Roughlander www.thekhukurihouse.com/category/dbad-knives
@DonnieBAllDay damn dude I didn't know you made knives I've run across your reviews before. But these are perfect. I wish Google would promote these kinds of bowies.
Ya man most have no clue .bout knife fighting .or fighting in general I knew a guy in the navy and he could RIP ya up with a 3 inch blade .both of them blades are awsome
Thanks again brother for another informative and entertaining vid. Stop making anymore videos, bc I end up buying many of them! Thanks Donny..keep em coming!
The Sandbar Fight was most likely with a repurposed large kitchen knife, which led to what we now accept as a Bowie style. The Arkansas Toothpick was also known as a bowie blade. Cable tangs are historically accurate and help absorb shock, eat that full flat tang! Sadly, with the Cold Steel sell out O1 and cable tangs (as well as SK5 and Spike Tomahawks) are dinosaurs.
Both of these are rad imo! I've seen Becker BK9 brake on RU-vid so yeah you abuse a knife enough you can break it. Full tang or not. I've always wanted a Trail Master. I may need to get my ass in gear and get one.
I like both knives. Interesting the longer blade chopped wood much better. Chopping wood in a survival situation could be a life saver. Mind you the shorter blade looks very versatile
Great comparison dbad!! May I suggest a new one: Big Brother vs Natchez. They are both amazing knives more for tactical use and it's gonna be a very interesting comparison ⚡
thank you for another great video, greetings from Greece! hope you change your mind and do a hard testing on the new CS Natcheez in 4034 steel...i'm curious to see if its any good near the performance of O-1...
@@DonnieBAllDay i'm afraid you have a point here...let's just hope that one of your viewers sents it over to you for some testing, that would be very nice and interesting.
Once again great video. I love both of them knives. I wish I had those as well to test. But hey, you never know what the future holds. I hope one day you do a comparison between your DBAD Mission 4 and the Hibben 4 Machetes. It's just a suggestion. That would be an awesome video.
YAY! RIght on bro!🤩Two of my three favorite knives! Had my first C5 TrailMaster engraved with US eagle motif and hung on the wall. Have used both enuff to know, and have settled on the Laredo as a fighting knife, all three Lynn Thompson-era . ("There's just no pleasing some people")... Thanks once again for the review...
@@DonnieBAllDay Yeah it's apparent that you have a case of the @$$ with CS or Lynne and am puzzled by that. Of course that is your affair and no one else's. Speaking personally I've had good luck with CS the knives Ive purchased, and the customer service- such as I've needed (not much). The new owners didnt do themselves any favors by jacking prices into the stratosphere, so at this time I'm waiting for them to get real price-wise and looking for used older CS knives, which I would carry into hell with me. My CS knife usage goes back to the Bill Bagwell days. Before I got into Bagwell and later LT, my selection besides Buck folders was a khukri, a USMC "fighting" knife, and a Buck 120 which I carried for like 40 years. Actually, looking back, still solid choices today...
Great video, super entertaining as always, keep it up Donnie! 👍🏻 little question: what's your opinion on the stonewashed and saber-ground Cold Steel Marauder (Aus-8)? I recently got one and I think its a light weight but brutal beast. Do you have any experience with it?
My guess is he'd like it, he may have an issue with the handle or not, however it isn't as good of a chopper like the Wild West Bowie and others but it has a wicked clip point, is sharp af and is very light compared to all those heavy chopper Bowies, not saying it can't chop but just seems more suited for possibly a combat attacking type situation, i imagine it would work quite well and possibly better than some heavier ones. Imo.
@@rnkmode1876 Yes you are absolutely right. Due to the light weight it is surely not as good for chopping but it makes it very agile so a dangerous weapon in combat. Personally I like its weight not only for that but it is very comfortable to carry. When one is hiking and already carrying a bunch of things this can be very nice because it gives pratically the same reach and blade length as the other mentionned knives (altough the Wild West Bowie etc look of course nicer)
You're right about what you said about ppl not knowing what their talking about. You know as well as I do,there are always don't know it alls. You commented ant aside 😂
@Surleyone both are great but war machine is like a kabar on steroids. I like my tops, condor, cold steels, but I like the full tang and beefier upgrades to the classic style fighting knife that is battle proven. The war machine is perfect size for me. It's also a price thing for me.
