This is a polarizing knife. It's either for you, or not. I'm normally not a Cold Steel fan. But you tell me I've got one folding knife to face the apocalypse, I'm picking this knife.
I've been trying to pick up another at a decent price but now they are pretty limited availability, so they have gotten pretty expensive. Relatively speaking.
Carrying this for almost 5 years everyday as backup to my flipper, it has never let me down, has held its edge fantastically and maintenance has been next to minimal. Such an awesome knife.
I think you have missed the point with this knife. It is meant to be a folding knife that is as useful as a fixed blade belt knife in the bush. It isn't meant to be used as a fashion accessory or for cleaning you fingernails, Hon. It is meant to be a folder that can be BATONED. I bet you Ceracoted the keys to your Prius.
Wrap handle with denim and rubber bands. It's great camp knife. You might be missing the whole point of this knife if you haven't used it and abused it. Not for city folks.
If you wrap the handle in denim and rubber bands how do you open or close it?!?! You might be missing the point of a folding knife if that's your idea for this knife. Not for people who dont understand physics. No point of any knife is "abusing it". Every knife is to be used in a certain way. There is litterally no knife made to be abused. There are some blades that are only made to stand up to light use. Some for EDC. Some for field use. Some.for dedicated hard use. But anyone who thinks they are cool because they "abuse" a tool of any kind is a fucking idiot. Before the end of my first year in the military I learned to show proper respect for every tool and weapon I was issued. Not a single one of us, city or country ever thought the purpose of anything we had in the field was to be "abused" but maybe that's just because we actually did things where our lives could litterally depend on our equipment and stuff...
The only thing that springs to mind, is the jimping. That part of the handle is where the locking magic happens. I know you’re not going to demonstrate by hanging weights off it in a video, just saying.... beautiful job on the coatings btw
I had the blade lock bite me in the first minute of playing with this knife, lol. I do like it as a backup to throw in my bag. And it came already sharp. Yours looks 500% nicer after the upgrades.
I'm glad I watched it through to the end. At first I thought that you were a whiner, but I saw that you really did improve the knife. Perhaps I'll try it. Thanks for your efforts!
Wow! That's one hell of a great job and that Sniper Green is looking tight. I decided to take a chance and do my own custom work on some knives. It was scary but very rewarding. I made a detent ramp on my ZT 0804CF, and put sharpening choils on a Steel Will Bruiser 500 and CRKT M16. My ZT 0804CF has a smooth carbon fiber scale which I do not like. Do you think that Sniper Green coating would adhere to carbon fiber. Please let me know. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother 👍⚔️✝️🇺🇸
I love hearing that people are taking the step to trying out their own custom work! Cerakote will adhere to carbon fiber as long as it is prepared correctly and applied and cured according to the instructions. You'll need to give it a good sandblasting or a rough sanding, and then wash it thoroughly to make aure all the residual powder is completely gone. After that you can apply and cure it like normal.
You definitely should do your own limited custom run of knives or something similar to what you have done here, try some loctite on them pocket clip screws to keep them in tight
What about putting a lighter spring in the lock? Looked about the same size as a pen spring. Maybe with a light spring it could be single hand operable.
Good idea, but it has a lot to do with the pressure the handle body puts on the lock bar. And yeah, that could be adjusted with very careful manipulation...but any mistake at all would end up with a knife that would kind of fall apart.
Good Review! But, as a german, i have to say, the 2015 version, with the CTS BD-1 steel is much much better in edgeholding! I have had the Krupp 1.4116 version, and the heattreating is worth. It is too soft. It is possible to to heattreat this steel well, but Cold Steel doesn´t. The edde rolls, by cutting a thick carton!!!! I sold it. CTS BD-1 is simular like 440C and it does a much better job. I´m a educated Blacksmith. Greetings from Germany, Martin.
the winner hasnt responded at all yet? why dont you reroll it then ? like if he hasnt replied i think it could of been a random one who just watched one video, and moved on and participated and forgot about it? im not saying this just so u reroll, but because it could be a possibility
ahhh. well u should use photoshop for isntance and like add stuff from diff knifes together by listening to what type of knifes and styles he like maybe that helps
I don't want to say anything that could be considered mean at all because I certainky don't mean it to be. But I've given the guy a LOT of ideas. This is his first high end knife and he's having trouble deciding how he wants it. I mean, he won, It'ss his knife, I understand. He's got to love it and look at it forever.
Very cool video, like the colors on that, was looking at maybe getting a pocket bushman but now cold steel has that finn wolf and i think that would be a better choice over this, that locking mechanism is strange, i mean if you are in a survival situation, and your hand or arm is out of commission its going to make opening and closing it a real pita.
I had one of these a few years back. I bought it just out of curiosity and was surprised at how much I enjoyed carrying and using it. I ended up giving it away. You did a fantastic job with your modifications.
Looks nice but paint job is even more money then the knife is worth So not worth it Also how fast does it scratch and then looks crapy? It looks like fast, considering it was scratched already at the back of the knife at the end of the video
That was a gouge not a scratch. Cerakote doesn't scratch easily. But when you ram a screwdriver into it by mistake, that'll do it. Cerakote is actually really durable. It can take hundreds of hours of salt spray without wearing. It also gets stronger the longer it is cured fir a time. I should have left it for another 24 hours before I put it together. So in short, I screwed it up. Blame me, not the product. I was new to the application game then. But I still have that knife and it has a couple of very faint wear marks but no vissible scratches or chips.
I did the coating. Unfortunately we can't take individual orders like that at the shop anymore because of the volume of contracted work we have right now.
That was awesome, but I wish you would have showed the hole process especially when you put it back together. I needed to clean mine it it t👀k so long to get that spring back in.
You're in luck - I just got a new one and I'll be doing a whole project. I'll make sure ymto show more details during all the work. It will be coming soon!
I just found this video and have to say I like what you did very much! 👍🏼👍🏼 I’ve been carrying a pocket bushman since 2001. It’s the only folder that I really like. Would love to have you do this to my knife (or maybe a new one), and perhaps do an engraving on it. New subscriber here ✔️
Well, it's $40 to give your knife the same treatment. I you want me to supply the knife, it's $40, plus the cost of the knife. You can message me on Facebook or email to the email address in the video description.
I think the reason for the very low clip and the fact that there is no tip down carry option(not that I mind) is because the holes that are required for both of those things would interfere with the ram-lock.
19:12 Surely one would know if the sentence they typed was English or not, the fact that the end tile seems to be unaware of the language it is written in raises suspicion that it may have been typed by a foreign agent. 19:12
My cs knives always leave me without saying goodbye , one decided to go swimming one day and drowned another heard a Cadillac with some base in the trunk got up and hoped in the car with em and left. Now the price has come down I just ordered a couple more been using C's knives since 2004
