I'm an old Buckskinner and Rev-War Reenactor and have owned a few hawks over the years, all blacksmith made. But I must have loaned them out here and there and discovered none when looking for one recently. So I remembered CS made them and decided to buy a couple and they are VERY interesting! They seem very well made, lighter and thinner than what I've been used to, but certainly strong enough. The set screw in the handles I find odd, and I removed them. I also got an extra handle and I suggest others who purchase these do the same, because you will need a new handle from time to time.
I really love my OG Nirse Hawk as not only is it great for throwing, but works off the haft as an ulu & skinning knife when given a good edge, but the Trailhawk is the go to for woodcraft & versatility & would be my go for fighting with.
I own the Norse Hawk, and that thing is killer! There was a pun in there somewhere. Love to see the variety of different axes and the inspiration behind them. Much love Cold Steel fam!
Rifleman's hawk is such a great tool. I use it all the time for camping. It's enough to fell small trees, and you can make splitting wedges to handle larger logs. In a pinch, you can take the blade off the handle and use it for food prep/skinning.
Ahh a man of culture I see. I can't lie I'm not here for the Hawks either. Men will be men. I still love guns, knives, axes, I was even told once I was crazy. No, I just appreciate good craftsmanship and love collecting different knives of different steels. Some people are crazy when they collect plates?
I tried to order a bowie bushman where it was in stock. Cold steel was out Amazon sadly had it.. well it could not be delivered to me I'm in FL the restrictions are lacks but I couldn't get it. Guess I'll wait lol
One of the advantages of a tomahawk over a conventional hatchet is the way the head connects to the handle. If you break a hatchet handle, re-hanging the head properly is a chore. With a hawk, you just need to carve or find a stick that will fit. You can also carry just the head and make a handle in the field when you need it.
Carried the Rifleman's hawk as a rifleman in the Army , also kept it in my duty bag while a security contractor and that along with the CS special projects Kukri scared the crap out of my Saudi counter parts , but they also knew to respect the blade and loved to handle them.
Also have one in my collection, and wish Cold Steel would make one. Dang handles are expensive, one option is to make the handle out of the Cold Steel Hawk handles
I love my coldsteel tomahawks. I've had them for years. I have the trail hawk and the frontier hawk. I want the Hudson bay hawk. That's on my wish list haven't been able to find any in-stock. Any word on the inventory?
