You comented on the F3 not having chaff and flare during Gulf War one. I assure you it did, I helped to fit and test it!

Consider yourself double checked and correct. The Electra was an advanced airplane for it's time. Unfortunately, the wing spar was under engineered and suffered a pair of catastrophic crashes as a result. Lockheed solved the problem but it's reputation was soured for the flying public and airlines moved on. The US Navy, NATO and allied forces were smart enough to recognize a spectacular airframe when they saw it. As a result, the P-3 and EP-3 have gone on to have a spectacular carreer. P-3 has a shorter fuselage but otherwise is identical and still operating with several navies. P-3 also shares engines with the Lockheed C-130 which reduces cost and maintenance workload for nations who field both. C-130 has the turbo props underslung, P-3 placed the turboprops overwing to allow clearance for the huge paddle props.

Two wonderful interviews which have brought back a lot of great memories of the F4 Phantom sim at RAF Leuchars. Also I am presently enjoying Tug's book, and it would appear that I was a Cpl sim tech at Leuchars when he was going through the OCU. Great interviews and a great channel.

I know I may not get an answer because it was recorded a while ago. Tug mentioned in part one, his f18 squadron boss was a marine who was a top gun instructor. Was it by any chance Dave Burke???

Loved that final story about Barry Smallc... - I bet that junior Nav was talked about in legendary terms for that outburst from that point on. Great stories Tug, always good to hear the stories about what the defenders of the realm get up to...

Great podcast as usual. If you speak to Tug anytime soon, please let him know that having recently returned from a det to Aki, the animal house still remains strong and i partook of the obligatory jug of brandy sours and a full kebab.

This was another great listen. I much prefer hearing about the banter and anecdotes, stories, about being on the squadron and cheating to win. The whole point of being in that job is to win and put one over your mates. I think there is a definite difference in mentality between the US and UK fighter pilots. A lot of similarities too, but this is refreshing to see. Again you do a great job in allowing people to tell their story. Looking forward to seeing more.

The cracks in the rear spar and sheared internal wing stringers was the Phantom saying I've had enough!

Great video. I've watched it twice now, but I can't help thinking if you need to cheat in training to get a kill, you won't last long in a real dogfight.

The Electra your talking about is a P-3A Orion used for electronic warfare and sub hunting buy a lot of western air forces

I've just watched these, fascinating guy is Tug. Bought his book after finishing the interviews. I have to confess I never knew the RAF had F-4's. I know, shocking ignorance from a self-confessed aviation geek. Haha.

Tug, I think it's a damned shame that none of the UK Phantoms are available for private ownership in the US. I understand that most of these UK Phantoms have been scrapped. What a shame..!!

I do like Tug. I can also understand why people who take themselves to seriously will be offended by him and resent him. I imagine them thinking this guy is trusted with many million pound jets and he acts like he is stuck in a teenage mind. I've met more mature nineteen year olds. He is who he is and it doesn't bother me. I actually find the huge ego funny. 🤣🤣😲🤭😉😀
