For this wild camp, I begin my journey at Edale and head towards Crowden Clough. The hike along the clough is quite steady until you reach the latter stages where there is quite a scramble to the top to reach Crowden Tower. Then I made my way along the Woolpacks to find a camp for the night. The golden sun glowed as I pitched my OEX Bobcat1. There was a bitter wind chill with temperatures around 2 degrees.
I tried out my new Jetboil skillet (an early birthday present) by cooking some burgers and then chilled out for the evening. The night was quite a windy one but the epic sunrise in the morning made up for it!
After watching the beautiful sunrise, I headed down back to Crowden Clough via a different route and headed to the PennyPot cafe for much needed refreshment! I really enjoyed this January wild camp. Thanks for watching!

Happy Birthday, mate. Glad you started the content making and what a brilliant hobby! Hope everyone appreciates all the extra walking to get those 'walk by' shots in! For me... Autumn, Spring, Summer and Winter (but winter trumps all if we get proper snow like in the good old days!).

Like the snow from that huge snowfall in 87. Amazing that was. Thanks for watching. What an epic sunrise. Wasn’t expecting that at all. Just shows that you’ve got to be in it to win it. All the best Rich!

Another nice one Gav, especially love the sunrise time lapses. Crowden Clough is one of my favourite approaches to Kinder, much quieter than Grindsbrook, and the last time I was at Crowden Tower there was so much snow a family had dug a substantial snow hole into a bank below it! I've loved my time on RU-vid, but I did envisage doing more walking and wild camping videos on my channel. I'm 67 in two months, so can barely remember being 50! But I was still pretty fit at 50, and things didn't start going downhill physically until I hit 62, so beware, and never get complacent about our age :) I definitely agree about making the effort to get the rewards. The number of Scottish mountains I struggled up in rain and cloud before I got an inversion etc. I also agree about loving all seasons, but midges make summer a bit of a pain for wild camping. I have very fond memories of multi-day wild camps around the Cairngorms. No real plans, just peaks to fit in and great spots to camp with no need to rush, an almost infinite variety of possibilities :)
@HikingForHealth1
@HikingForHealth1 6 месяцев назад
Crowden Clough was certainly an adventure. Midges! Last summer there was one camp that was so bad I had to retreat to the tent to avoid them. Even then there were hundreds of them in between the fly and the inner desperately trying to get through the mesh. That was fun 🙄 Thanks for watching. Did you spot the Clumber Park combination of old and new pic? I didn’t get it quite as perfect as you do on your channel but I thought it was a pretty good go! All the best.

@HikingForHealth1

It’s brilliant. It’s compact and cosy. Because of that your mat stays still 😂 I would make a few tweaks. I’d have an extra zip on the mesh vent to stop the draft during winter. Also pop a couple of extra guylines on the back to pull the outer out more (I’ve seen this mod on Yt). Finally I’ve cut off the small piece of yellow material they put on the zip??? which stopped opening up the inner from both sides so you can lay either side. Thanks for watching. All the best!

Thanks for watching 😀 I really enjoyed the scramble up the clough. It was great fun and one I’d like to do again at some point. The Jetboil skillet is a game changer. Much better than my old OEX pan I had which didn’t last long at all. Thanks Carrie, I really enjoyed editing it. At the end of the day age is just a number I suppose; it’s how you feel and look after yourself that matters. I could definitely do with losing a few pounds before embarking on the Hadrians Wall route but would love the challenge. I’ve heard the middle 3/5 of the route is the best.

That's one of my favourite routes up to Kinder Gav, Jacobs Ladder is stunning but you get to the top and still have to do a trek. You're video creating skills are fantastic. Thoroughly recommend Hadrian's wall, two monotonous bits at each end but the rest is stunning.

Thanks for commenting Phil and taking the time to watch. It was my first time adventuring up Crowden Clough and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree about Jacob’s Ladder. It just seems to keep going on and on doesn’t it which is all well and good when you’ve got a small backpack. Still a great route though. I’ve heard that about the Hadrian’s Wall walk that the best part is the middle 3/5. Shame about Sycamore Gap. 😡

@@HikingForHealth1 it is, we went to vindolanda for my birthday last year (57th), then stayed at the twice brewed pub for a star watching course. It was amazing, but the highlight was crossing the road and walking up to Sycamore gap. Great shame that it's gone now.
