A very cool vintage toy based on a vacuum fluorescent display, and among the most collectable of all VFD-based games. Follow me on Mastodon: tech.lgbt/@themaritimegirl Patreon: / themaritimegirl
We had one of these when I was a kid (I am very old). My grandmother who we lived with was mostly confined to her wheelchair, but still very spry. I would play this table top in the comfort of her presence. I had no idea just how much she hated the sound though, because she would (purposefully, I’d come to realize later on) backed up the wheel of her chair right over the hood of the machine, in an attempt to destroy it! It looked like an accident to young me, but that thing had no volume control. As much as I loved it, I couldn’t play it at night when it would do the most good, for me. Hah! Oh well. I can play Pac-Man games on my Switch devices, which I would do while listening to this video. Great Stuff!
8:34 The ghost is doing his best Hank Hill "Whuuuhauuuu!" LMAO 🤣 Pac - Man having feet suitable for Only Fans is over my head though. I had this back when I was a tiny grommet. Pac - Man was my jam 🎸 I even had the trading card / stickers and breakfast cereals, watched the cartoons, the Buckner & Garcia album with Pac - Man Fever 🤒 Which I got after buying the much hyped and eagerly awaited Atari 2600 version. I'd have a similar round of disappointment with Atari Q*Bert but I think that was a little better though, but not as good as Ms. Pac - Man , a silver box Atari cartridge so you knew they weren't messing around! I never saw Ms. Pac for these mini arcades, how was that?
On top of this one, pretty sure still got the Zaxxon one in storage. It's much bigger and the built is far more complex to make the 3d/isometric view work.
God I wish I had one of these Coleco Mini Arcades! I'd love to get the Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac Man, Popeye, and this one eventually! Yes they're primitive compared to the arcade counterpart but having these is just an absolute joy - if I had one that is!
I have a pretty large collection of vfd’s. Entex Galaxian 2 and Entex Defender are good ones. The Coleco Donkey Kong is also really good. It has multiple screens. But they’re all good!
I might be frustrated by the imperfect movement of the ghosts and blame that when I keep messing up. On the 2600 version with the flickering ghosts I keep thinking they are still blinking and constantly run into them.
