A little over two years ago, I lost one of my best friends in a tragic and sudden accident. His name was Tom Bridegroom. It was one of the most heart breaking times in my life to this day. I still cannot believe he is gone.
I am dedicating this song I wrote, entitled "Beautiful Boy" to Tom and all of those who have lost someone close to them.
I am so humbled and honored that Tom's partner of six years and one of my best friends, Shane Bitney Crone, put my song "Beautiful Boy" in his award winning documentary "Bridegroom".
About Bridegroom:
On May 7th, 2011 Shane tragically lost the love of his life, Tom, to an accident. Because they weren't married or prepared for the unexpected, Shane lost all legal claim to Tom after he died. Tom's family banned Shane from the funeral and he was unable to say goodbye. On May 7th, 2012 Shane posted a video on RU-vid, entitled "It Could Happen to You." He created it to honor his partner and show the world what can happen when two people are legally barred from having equal rights and equal protections under the law to marry.

I don't cry, but after watching the Bridegroom , I did. I don't understand why people want to hate love ? There are children dying on this planet because tey can't get clean water everyday, but two men who fell madly in love are worse to a family then that. I can't understand hate on love, no matter the face. This world is totally backwards, and I pray we all know , gay, straight, bi, trans, bi, curious, unsure whatever , love like you and Tom did. My heart feels for you.

So did I. I was watching some lovely birthing journey and there was a song playing called beautiful Boy, so I wanted to find it, I found the John Lennon version but not the one I wanted, then came across this, and my heart just broke. I thought someone must if just lost their son, then I thought of my son ( very briefly) and just CRIED so bad!!!!! Then I read more about it. Just so sad :-(

I watched bridegroom yesterday and was absolutely devastated at how toms family treated Shane after he died I hope he finds some sort of peace without Tom. Such a beautiful relationship that they had. Never be ashamed of who you are. Beautiful song and sang with such truthful emotion. Toms memory will live on in everyone who truly knew him. His parents can deny his sexuality but it won't change anything. He was who he was. They should be proud of that fact

Coleen, I just want to say what a beautiful addition to Bridegroom your song of love and tribute to Tom is. Some people search a lifetime to have a friend like you obviously are to Shane, and was to Tom. In your video, we can see the love, and the pain of losing such a wonderful friend. We can also see the beautiful person that you are, your heart, soul and genuineness. May God always bless you with everything your heart desires, and I hope and pray that we are all blessed with many more songs from your beautiful talent.

On July 19th 2015, my cousin and his wife lost their sweet 11 month old. When I first heard that he was gone this was the first song that came to my mind. We'll miss you baby boy Benjamin Michael. I keep waiting to wake up from this nightmare. Please pray for my family during this time. This is coming 4 months after we lost my grandmother and Ben's great grandma. I knew deep down that she was waiting for him along with his uncle, Fidel and his Papa. I pray that God lends down a healing hand over my family and all those suffering with loss.

Dear Coleen, I just got to know your song when watching "Bridegroom" movie from Shane with my sweetheart. I shed tears right from the first 2 minutes of the movie. This song touches my heart countless times since I listened to it, replayed it, hummed it, sang it for the first time. It's too sad to accept the fact that Tom was gone... I watched Bridegroom for the first time today, and like so many others, was moved to tears by Tom and Shane's love story, and tragic ending. I was also moved to anger at Tom's parent's ignorance and intolerance, and quite honestly their selfishness. I've been thinking about it all afternoon, and finally came to the conclusion that they are to be pitied. I pity them because they'll probably never accept, nor be happy for the fact that their cherished son found true love, and was living his life to the fullest because of it, not in spite of it. They have missed out on really knowing Shane, and having his memories and experiences with Tom to more fully understand what an incredible human being they were blessed to have in their lives. As someone who has been partnered for 20 years, this has made me more fully appreciate the love and support I receive from my partner, and both of our families, as obviously not everyone is so fortunate. RIP Tom, and keep fighting the good fight Shane. You're both inspirational to so many people from so many different generations, ethnicities, sexual orientations and backgrounds. You've built a legacy of love and light, and lived lives you can be very proud of. #taptaptap #EqualityForAll

sthrnguy I remember the first time I seen this, I had no idea what it was about but Netflix picked it for me and oh my Lord I cried for 80% of it. However, there was lots of laughter also. It a shame what happened because believe you me-that right there-what we watched, well it's some once in a lifetime type love. And it was beautiful. Lastly, I try to stay classy but every now and then I get rattled and you have to remove that 'C' and throw in a 'K'. Once I'm klassy with a K, I'm a mess. Poor Tom, God bless his soul, to have a momma like his. SMH. That women was an evil evil ignorant evil woman. I have to go I'm trying to be nice but I feel the real me wanting to come out. Anyhow, thanks for the comment. Btw, there's a movie called "free fall" on Netflix because I watched that bridegroom was suggested. Just thought I'd mention it.

A few years ago I discovered this music, and It always made me "feel" so much. I felt kinda guilty actually, 'cause it feels to me like It shouldn't be alowed to everyone, it's especial. And then, yesterday, I lost a friend to depression. He killed himself and we never knew anything, we didn't say goodbye. At his funeral, seeing him like that, remembering all the moments we had together, I never felt so much at once in my life. I just hope that, wherever he is, he finds peace and happines, that somehow he feels the love that we send to him now and forever, even If It is too late. Sentirei saudades, meu amigo. Te amo. Coleen, Ive asked a friend to play the piano and dong this at my funeral in the event it is ever needed. I have a very high risk job and it brings comfort to those who want a way to express their emotions in a healthy light. I have a very high risk job and see tragedy all the time. it's called 'life happens; and when it happens all we have is each other. Coleen has such a true gift of touching peope through her songs. The more I listen to her music, the more I am addicted to it. This song is by far one of my favorites. I wish I had watched the Bridegroom documentary way earlier. I only stumbled upon it on RU-vid a couple of days ago. Shane and Tom's story is so moving that it is impossible to hold the tears. As one of the women in the documentary says, "it is not a gay thing, it is not a straight thing; it's a human thing." May love and empathy grow in everybody's heart so that we transform this world in a better place for the next generations to come. Lots of love and hugs from Brazil.

I literally cannot describe how deeply Tom and Shane's story touches me. Unfortunately, it takes the death of beautiful person for it to be realized the extent to which inequality can cripple people's lives. What a beautiful and meaningful song, so we'll sung by Coleen. IMHO this stands on it's own as a fantastic story of love transcending time, space, everything...However, the love that Coleen is singing about: Shane and Tom's was & will always be the kind of love most of us dream of having. We hope and pray for such a connection, someone who makes us our best selves. The story of their love portrayed in the movie-biopic "Bridegroom" is profoundly inspirational, which to be honest is an understatement. Watch it, it is that good, well done and truly should be required material to be watched (which in no way means it's boring, quite the opposite) Hope you enjoy!

I can not begin to describe what this song does to me everytime I listen, it's like your singing from my soal, I lost my beautiful boy Christian Strickland 9 years old from the brain eating amoeba that's so rare only around flirty people have died the past 100 yrs sadly I lost him August 5th 2011 two months after his birthday in May only days before Shane lost Tom, Thank You for writing this song!!

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The most basic of human emotions is the love for another human. We cannot decide who we love. It just happens. The scene towards the end were Shane hugs Tom in the bright white light, is how I picture their reunion, decades from now, in heaven.

Some people are like a comet- too bright to last but lighting the sky brilliantly as they pass by. And it's wonderful to bask in it and much darker when the light is gone, but the memory of it all can last a lifetime. There's a reason why Tom and Shane met and had the experiences they did, and perhaps everyone who sees their story will take a tiny piece of that light and use it in their own lives, to illuminate the world. This song makes me weep with sorrow but also lifts my spirits in hope.

I like how this one has become more mature than the first version although I loved the raw emotion from the first one. I really love the part where you sang the bridge because it's stronger now and you really feel the regret and anguish of why someone sooo young had to go the way he did. Even I am angry at how Tom passed. This song brings back the emotions I felt when I first saw Shane's video. I hate the feeling but it's okay because this helped the revolution towards modifying the society we live in.

This is the song I needed. I dated Auston for 8 months, but we were friends for years before that. I tried to make the breakup as gentle and as supportive as I could, but he struggled with it. We didn't talk for months. Then everything changed. For Christmas last year, I bought him train tickets to the mountains, and we never got to use them. So I sent him a message, and we made plans to go on that trip today. I wanted him to experience it. He loved trains, and I couldn't imagine a better way to show him that I appreciate him. A week later, he was dead from septic shock. He was just 27 years old. Auston was warm, caring, and generous, and he had the purest heart I've ever known. He never knew a stranger, and he lived to help others. Everyone that ever crossed paths with him - no matter how briefly - was devastated by his passing. The world doesn't have enough genuinely good people in it, and now we have one less. I will never be the same. Rest in peace, sweet Auston. You will always be the sweetest superhero.

I so love this song and I so hate this song. It is so exquisitely done and it would be sad on it's own merit but I've seen Bridegroom and I know what the song is about. I can't listen to the song without crying and I can't even think about Shane and Tom and the unbelievably horrible circumstances under which their loving relationship ended without crying. I will never understand how people can hate such an indescribably beautiful thing such as what Tom and Shane had. I was lucky to have that kind of love once. I hope every day I find that kind of love again. Shame on Tom's parents.

I hated when I came across this story. It's so beautiful, he was so full of life and promise. I have tried taking my life 3 times. The last one left me in a coma for a week. I believe in a higher power, so I believe there is a reason I was spared. But I've yet to find it. And this wonderful man, with so much purpose and desire to live is taken by a tragic accident. It makes me ashamed that every day I wake up wanting to die. But I have learned one important thing in these last suicide attempts. Suicide doesn't take away the pain, it just shifts it to another person.

Me and my Husband just watched the movie "Bridegroom" and it touched the both of us on so many levels. I am so glad that we are now able to be married and not have to go through what Shane had to go through. It saddens me to know that this happened and I'm sure has happened many times in the past. Our country has come so far in the equality of gay rights but we still have mountains to climb. I pray that one day another gay life does not have to end due to the cruelty and hatred of ingnorance.

Oh Coleen, your song reduces me to a sobbing fool...I lost my nephew 2 years ago when he contracted meningitis, we have not really come to terms with his passing and this song describes him and how we feel.....why did this song not get here to South Africa back then?....you should have won some sort of award so something for this, it really is quality compared to the rubbish playing on the airwaves these days.

Cant even handle how beautiful this song is! The story is just too sad. Its so sad I couldn't even cry.... sadness beyond tears. I discovered this song after watching the documentary and was very moved by their story... perhaps oddly, ironically, sadly, it gives hope to the rest that a love like that can exist. I think most of us don't really believe it could.... Anyway. Thank you for this song, it has clearly touched the hearts of many.

I ordered sheet music and a download from the website and never heard back or saw a refund. So much for trying to do the right thing by an artist. I'm willing to accept that there could have been issues with whoever was in charge of the website but it's left a bad taste in my mouth now whenever I hear this beautiful song.

Absolutely GORGEOUS sound, voice . . . . . . . . imagery of the words seems 'ethereal' but somehow feels more like the true life we simply can't "see", nor those who have 'gone back home' there. We just can't 'see' them here . . . . . .. . .and can only wonder, "are we going to see them, again"
