Wow, cool! I grew up with Coleman white gas stoves and lanterns, didn’t know Coleman made a kerosene lantern. And it’s not even all that old; in 1975 we still had kerosene and propane lights. The different generator is expected, but the rest looks familiar. I’ll bet that will run on today’s road diesel, just as flat wick and Aladdin lamps will.
I love Coleman kerosene lanterns. I have several models in my collection, including a 201 just like that one. It’s bright. Other models to watch for: 237: This is a large, single mantle lantern. About the same size as a regular 220. It has a large diameter generator. It has a cast brass mixing chamber, which I think absorbs heat better, resulting in less smell. It uses a peerless 111 mantle, burns kerosene and is extremely bright! Brighter than the 201. 249: This lantern is the size and style of the 242’s. It too has a large diameter generator, brass mixing chamber, and uses the peerless 24a mantle. It is extremely bright, as the 237, yet more compact. Also, these lanterns will run regular gas or Coleman fuel as well….just be sure to always preheat the generator before lighting.
I have owned the twin to your kerosene lantern for several decades. Purchased mine at the old Army Surplus in Springfield Missouri. Better light than the propane lanterns and at least equal to the white gas lanterns. Major reason for the purchase was the shelf stable properties of kerosene. There are stories of kerosene purchased in the 40's being used in lamps and lanterns as recently as the 90's. Only negative is the need to use alcohol to preheat the generator.
Good morning from West Michigan. That lantern is truly cool. I've never seen one. I do have an American Gas Machine 2 mantle kerosene lantern that runs like a champ, all night long! I recommend that you try to burn off most of the alcohol before you light the mantle to avoid a fireball. The generator has to be blazing hot to vaporize the fuel. Good job, and now, I have to find one...
Nice one. I have a Coleman house lamp in kerosene. A bit more fun to light than white gas. I need to write down what lanterns I have someday. That is a great find. Thank you for sharing it with us, Darrell. Stay safe and stay warm
Very cool. Looks like a nice one. I built an all red 201 and a nickel fount red vent 201. Both from 201 parts. Love them both. Great little lanterns. Enjoy brother.
I love that lantern I was given one very similar about 3 months ago and cleaned it up a bit it's not as clean as yours butt still a great find.I love the kerosene lanterns. Keep that one for the shelf it's very cool.
The only kerosene GPA I have is a Coleman table lamp model 129 which is kerosene. I don't even use the pre-burn cup; I just heat up the generator with my propane torch. Gonna have to get me a hand pump for that lamp--right now I just use my air compressor. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
I've saw the new ones to but like you said ..the old Ones is were it is I have an older one single mantle takes a 111 and it's bright I think I have a video 336 compared to the 237 check it out thanks for commenting
@darrellbigdaddydcarter9224 I'm just starting to collect lanterns. So far I got a 1981 220K. Works perfectly. I'd like to find an old kerosene lantern, a big hat and a military lantern.
@@aikidragonpiper71 man I have several military lanterns I finaly scored a box set last year I have alot of them on here man good luck hunting and have fun it is alot of fun getting them shining again
I just last week bought a Coleman 201 in a mustard coloured carry case, Immaculate condition, obviously very little use, It cost me £150 which I thought was a bit pricey, but it appears that it is not as rare in UK as in USA. You Americans apparently don't like the faffing about with Kerosene, whereas us Brits don't trust white Gas(petrol) for safety reasons so they sold more in England than they did in America. To be honest I would have prefered a red 200 but they are as rare as hens teeth over here, You have to laugh at the irony, I just wonder if its a deliberate policy of Colemans to keep prices up.
That is crazy man and I tell ya some lanterns are priced a lil crazy even in rough shape we used to could find them all day for 5 bucks or less or even free alot now everyone is trying to cash in hope all is well across the pond man and thanks for checking out the video brother
