How to change the mantle on a Coleman Northstar Propane Lantern... it's pretty easy. While lantern mantles typically last a while they can get damaged and fail, when they do you want to be able to change them out so that you can use your propane lantern.

I recommend getting the hard case for the lantern, it will protect your lantern and it also gives a spot for spare mantles to be stored with the lantern. Hard Case - amzn.to/33fscHv
Replacement Mantles are here but make sure you are getting the correct mantle for the lantern that you own. For the Northstar get the #95 type mantle. amzn.to/3hTCkJY

I missed the part "to be gentle" after pre burning. I blew it and the entire thing turned into ash so I camp without a proper light haha! Im re watching this again so I dont make any stupid mistakes again. Thank you for the awesome video!

I would add two things. BEND THOSE WIRES DOWN. If you bump it with the glass while putting It on, you’ll destroy the mantle. I learned that the hard way on Christmas morning. Second, if it is windy outside when you’re burning that new mantle, the wind will blow away/destroy that mantle. Replace the mantle out of the wind.

I am an unintentional collector. :) When I see lanterns at garage sales or thrift stores if they are reasonable ( $20 to $30 or less) they usually make there way home with me. Well this happened matter of factly with a northstar one day. I put it with my other stuff in the garage and didn't get to it for months. I am out there one evening and I break this one out. I find some mantles Replace them and fire this beast up! WOW! This thing is bright! I love the northstar!!! I would love to find one of the gas models!

Thanks for this video. I still can't find the model number of my Northstar lantern, thought I must have got the wrong mantles because they were so big. Directions on the package are just a few pictures that I didn't find that helpful, followed by a bunch of warnings. Video really helped me out!

Can you use a regular wick if you're out of according wicks/mantels?

I did. I have to light the lantern by hand through a gap in the top and not turn the gas up too high. About half throttle provides all the light I need.

You can use the mantle until it gets a hole in it. A hole will leak gas and it won’t burn properly.

Have you ever removed the propane tank? I was given one of these on a camping trip with the propane tank attached. There is still some juice in it but the canister says to remove when not in use and I can't find any videos on how to do so safely. I need to replace the mantle and this video certainly helped with that but am unsure about the tank. This is my first time using propane and want to make sure I live to tell the tale.

Hey Maureen. The tanks are pretty safe so don't worry too much... just grab the lantern and the tank firmly and turn the tank to un-thread(unscrew) it from the lantern. Hope that helps.

A long time if you aren't rough with the lantern I have several lanterns and even the same one in the video. I just changed the one on my Coleman Northstar and the last mantel has been on it for over 2 years.
