I like the way Mr Condon works, particularly since that is exactly the way I work. If I ever need to run a generator, and have not had the need to do so, so far in my 76 years, I will try to use the same procedures as shown in these videos. Thanks for informing all of us who love to watch a master craftsman.

Here are the generator safety rules: anyone who uses portable gas generators really needs to see this safety reminder. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety. All generator safety rules should be followed carefully. This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the safety rules. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. i picked up 2 5500 watt powermates made in 2003 for $100 for both, after a carb clean, oil change, typical maintenance things they are both up and runnin, however like yours, both are extremely cold natured and hate inline filters for gas. Sold them for $300 each. Good stuff. Love your contrnt, keep up the great work sir.

All the old Tecumseh engines I fooled with had a special detent on the choke for half choke where it had to stay to warm up. I also added a 'T' in the fuel line between the tank and fuel pump on my old 5K with an I/C Briggs 'L' head and a valve with a long-ish hose so I can drain the tank dry and not have to play around with it. And I just use gun grease to bead the tires up and ethanol will kill those tank bushings but they're not hard to come by. Good video!

James, get a can of silicone spray and hit rubber parts with that. Makes removing them so much easier. Also I use silicone grease to install anything rubber, like on motorcycles pushing multi carb racks into rubber carb holders it’ll just slide in. Same for bushings and fittings.

Yes good advice. I used to build up motorcycles straight out of the crate. Did that one plus always put copper grease on exhaust studs etc. and most things that would need to be removed during servicing over the next few years, wheel nuts, axles etc. High melting point silicone lubricant on disc caliper mounting studs. Amazing just how much time I saved later in if I was doing a service on one of those bikes. Much quicker than removing a broken steel stud from an aluminum cylinder block. !.

When trying to seat the tires remove the valve core and use the quick disconnect only of the air line on the valve stem to seat the bead. By doing this the air volume going into the tire will be at a greater rate, on small tires only a second of air is needed and no longer because the air is unregulated. Install the core and inflate as you would do normally. When cutting hoses I like using AES Industries Mighty Cutter Hose Cutting Tool, makes for a cleaner cut and the blade can be replaced. When removing grommets cut the top of the grommet and push the bottom into the tank, yes you have to go fishing for it but it's easier than trying to pull the whole grommet though the hole.

Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Hi, can you make a video explaining the best way to store generators in a correct way?
@jcondon1
@jcondon1 3 года назад
It would be a pretty short video. But to sum it up, always store the carburetor dry. If you keep gas in the tank, swap it out once or twice a year with fresh stuff. Store it inside, keep the battery charged with a battery tender. I also pull the engine over until I hit the compression stroke. That way the valves are closed and you minimize any water or moisture getting in causing rust on the valves and rings.

@@trooper11c the easiest way is to pull the engine over slowly until you feel the compression (engine stops turning). Then remove the spark plug and carefully insert a screwdriver until it touches the top of the piston. Pull the rope slowly until the piston is at the top. NOTE: the piston is at the top twice, once at the end of the compression stroke and the other time at the end of the exhaust stroke. It adjusting the valves you want to be at top dead center of the compression stroke or just a bit past.

Slime 10137 Bead Sealer keeps the tire stuck to the rim ! The "official" Tecumseh tool for removing and replacing carburetor needle seats is the 670377. About $15 on eBay. If you don't have an E5 Torx, I have found that a 5/32" socket fits well. (Yes, both are scarce.) Tecumseh engines always seem to mount the gas tank (or the feed from the gas tank) on the opposite side from the carburetor. Then they feed the fuel line behind the flywheel and fan shroud. Good tip on feeding that hose back ! If you are using "standard" neoprene 1/4" ID fuel hose you will find it has a slightly larger OD that what Tecumseh uses. 1/2" vs 15/32". Using the standard 1/2" OD hose will make it more difficult to snake back behind the flywheel and the spring clamp that came off may not work. Stens 1/4" x 1/2" neoprene fuel line 115-295 (Most Briggs and Stratton engines) Stens 1/4" x 15/32 neoprene fuel line 056-150 (Most Tecumseh engines) Stens 115-303 3/16" x 13/32" (5mm x 10mm) neoprene fuel line115-303 (Most Honda and Chinese engines)

Hope this helps. Thank you.

Another great video, James. I REALLY liked your tire pressure gauge/inflation tool. Where did you get that?

Says you have to be careful taking the hose off the tank because the grommet can come out easily. Later in the video needs to change said grommet and there is a montage of about 10 different tools trying to remove said grommet which refuses to budge :)

A trick to getting that grommet out of the tank is to remove the metal fitting first, because it tends to expand the grommet in the hole, making it larger to help seal against leaks. With the metal fitting out, the rubber can be more easily compressed for removal.

Hey James, wondering if you can answer a question for me about this model generator. Does it have a ring gear that can accept a starter motor? It has the opening, but I was wondering if it has a ring gear inside that a starter can engage. Love your videos! Just became a subscriber the other day after watching so many of them. Wow, do I learn a lot from you. Thanks.
