Hi folks, and welcome to this review of the Coleman Sundome 2. It's my first review so be gentle.
In all, the tent is a great option for car camping or having some fun in the back yard. But as a hiker / backpacker, you'll find that this tent is pretty heavy to be carrying with you over several days.
I first took the Sundome out on a test hike with me back in 2019 and that's as far as I went with it.
Enjoy the video and if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to leave those in the comments section below and don't forget to hit those Like and Subscribe buttons!
Here's a link to an Amazon search for the Sundome. At present there are 2, 3, 4 and 6 person versions. Unfortunately it appears that Canadian Tire no longer offers these tents for sale.

Great tent. Good price and after many uses has held up very nice during hard rain.

Sometimes us backpackers can get a little wrapped up in our ounces....thank you for this very informative video. Not all of us can afford a z-packs duplex! As you know, I am still in the process of swapping out my gear for lighter, better quality, more EXPENSIVE options...but what I have't swapped is my tent. I am still rocking my Kelty Grand Mesa 2 and I see no reason to get rid of her. She has served me well and even though she's on the plus side....she keeps me cozy warm and DRY! It's my weight to carry so I will decided how to divide it up. I think a tent like this Coleman is a perfect option for someone wanting to dip their toes in the ocean so to speak, and get out there and HIKE! Stay Safe and Happy HIking!

Indeed!! There are more reviews coming but I finally settled on a LanShan 2 Pro and love it!

@@TrilliumHikes Last summer I bought a Naturehike Cloud Up 2 as my incentive to get into backcountry camping and while I haven't had a chance to properly use it, it's way more affordable than similar options from MSR. I can't remember what I paid for it but right now they're running about $209 on Amazon and under 4lbs.

@@johnisevil I'll be posting more tent reviews shortly. After the Coleman I went to a 1-person GeerTop tent then a 2 person off-brand trekking pole tent then finally a LanShan Pro 2. This last one is now my go-to. Cost me about $180 CDN last year and weighs in at a cool 2 lbs!

@@TrilliumHikes I've heard really good things about the LanShan tents. For car camping I just bought a 6-person Coleman Skydome which is all sort of luxury and headroom. I've also been following your Bruce Trail progress. Keep at it and happy to be a subscriber.

Oh for sure - car camping is a very different thing. My Mother and Sister spoiled my wife and I with some camping gear a few Christmas's ago and one included a huge tent that soon got its own nickname of Taj Mahal! lol Thanks so much for subscribing!! We're still catching up with posting Bruce Trail videos from last year (ended the season in Wiarton) and hoping to wrap up the Peninsula section in May (Covid pending). Have you checked out any of the Bruce Trail yourself?

Such a good quick review! Thanks for actually showing a visual of you laying inside the tent (and providing your height) super useful! Although, I’m not quite ready to venture into backpacking, I think this would be a great tent for car camping solo or with my doggo.

You're very welcome! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video! The Coleman series is indeed a great series of tents for car camping but they're too heavy for backpacking. I have other tent reviews on a GeerTop 1-person bivy as well as (my go-to) the 3F UL LanShan 2 Pro. Of course there are LOTS of options out there. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

The big advantage to free standing tents is near-vertical walls. Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure - thanks for checking it out! I loved the idea of the domed tent but the 6lb weight was way too much. After a few more purchases I landed on a LanShan Pro 2 - 2lbs and lots of interior room!

@@TrilliumHikes yeah, the downside of a lot of domes is the weight.

That's great! I ended up selling this one as a backpacking tent but I do like the design - so much so I've been looking for a 4-person for car camping.

Awesome! All the same features or have they made changes since this particular model (2p)?
@JasonLee-tz7im
@JasonLee-tz7im 2 года назад
@@TrilliumHikes yes it has the same exact features except it has more venting around at the bottom and top but that is only because it is made for six people all in all they are the same exact tent. I will be taking mine out with my dogs next weekend for the first time
@TrilliumHikes
@TrilliumHikes 2 года назад
@@JasonLee-tz7im Great - thanks for the update! I'm thinking to purchase a 3 or 4 person version for car camping. The 2p was just too heavy for backpacking and not really worth the hassle to cram my wife and I in for car camping. But it was a solid design and I often compare it to others I consider buying.

You got it! Or, for easy access to anything you want while you're out and about outside the tent. This could be snacks, phone/charger, backpack (though I wouldn't recommend trying to pull a backpack through that hole!

How does it hold up in high winds or heavy rains?
@TrilliumHikes
@TrilliumHikes 3 года назад
There would be 2 different perspectives here. The tent itself - assuming that you've anchored it down well will survive high winds and rain. I've been in it in heavier rain storms and never had a problem. High winds might be a different story. The rain fly doesn't cover the entire height of the tent so wind can easily get up underneath it. Same as above - you'll need to rely on how well you've attached the fly to the tent. That all said, in really high winds you shouldn't be in a tent but a more stable structure.

Huh? It is for Electrical Cord Access ..hooking up a fan, or computer!
@TrilliumHikes
@TrilliumHikes Год назад
For whatever you need. The corner access could be just that - if you have smaller items in the corner of the tent, you could access them there or run electrical into the tent as well.
