Believe it or not, Colin actually downshifted while the car was rolling so he could be in the right gear if it landed on its wheels... Colin McRae = Driving Legend!!
No believe it or not about it, thats a proven fact. They can see it on the logs from the car after the race. They log all sorts of things the car "feels" and such. His pit crew knew when he was mid air, that he had down shifted and wasnt giving up yet.
@@Wovel117 it's extremely sad news, I had the pleasure of working with him last year, he was such a gentleman and a very humble guy. An absolute hero and legend 🙏😔
@@chrissyboi88b he's on about that he finished faster than ken... they were 3 people competing, travis, collin and ken and agt's point was that even though he flipped the car he still beat ken... which he did..
@Gagliano17 that's far less of a knock on Ken Block than it is a respect to just how much of a monster as a racer Colin McRae was. Ken really is a driver that took inspiration to drive just as much on attack as Colin McRae was. Two greats there
I love the sportsmanship and camaraderie in the entire Rally scene. Pastrana is asked to talk about his win afterward, and he uses the time instead to give praise to Colin McRae. Simply awesome!
***** McRae was F*****G AWESOME... Colin McCrash as we call him in the Uk. Legend. Leob wins rallies, McRae won rallies with pure style after rolling cars trashing them etc.
@@sergiokraemer7097 the fact that someone has to mention 9-4-1 speaks volumes. Colin McRae will always be the greatest Rally driver, just like Ayrton Senna will always be the greatest F1 driver, Pele will always be the greatest Footballer, Tiger will always be the greatest Golfer and Federer will always be the greatest Tennis player. Oh and Pink Floyd's DSOTM will always be the greatest Album ever made 😃
Wow! Colin is so smooth compared to Travis. Travis is a great athlete, but Colin's smoothness is unreal... not to mention that epic downshift while upside down.
You can tell Travis has major respect for Colin. The fact that when he rolled, he was concerned and not cheering. This is true sportsmanship! R.I.P Mr McRae!
Haha i was there and can say Colin is an awesome driver to watch him roll the car , finish, and just lose by a second was something else . GOOD MEMORIES!!! Man I had a blast that year. Where the hell time go?
@becibooable1 different era entirely. McRae excelled and belonged in the mechanical era where the cars had to be manhandled physically. When all the digital electronics came into the sport in the early 2000s Colin started falling behind. No scandi flicks or setting the car up for corners, you just aim and go. Loeb excelled in this new modern car and I agree he was untouchable, but he wouldn't have been if he had to compete in the old Legacys or Cossies etc, where you had to drive with one hand on the gear stick.
McRae was the second best ever, he almost always lost to Tommi Makinen. But competing together they were the golden days of rally. I don't think the sport will ever be the same as it was when those two were racing.
Colin was a best rally driver ever, he's a master of car control, everytime there's a corner, no matter how tight or long he always getting it sideways and, when his cars bruised and battered he kept going like nothing happens
I gotta say I have a lot of respect for travis. Admittedly the 2012 X Games showed the difference in speed between a rally legend and rally cross competitions but I still think travis has great speed. And with that said, up until the roll (which was fucking epic) mcCrae genuinely LOOKED faster - and that's rare in recorded footage
If you never saw Mcrae drive then you were deprived... his commitment was unsurpassed from the early days to WRC. RIP Colin and still remembering Bernsie (Richard Burns).. sad days...
very well said TheEvanovitch. Pastrana vs McRae = rally match made in heaven.. i'd like to see Block/Pastrana or Foust/Pastrana. or Block os Foust vs McRae. i wish i could. i used this NoFear car in Dirt3 and beat a rally record. that was for you McRae! RIP, you legend. some day i hope to own McRae rally games again
this explains why rally drivers are the best in the world they never give up if car is ok they are already ready to push the limits. of course he is colin mcrae. what a man what a racer. you can easily see how fast.
no se alegro, no lo podia creer, aparte es un reflejo, sino escucha lo que dice de el cuando lo entrevistan, lo elogia por haber volcado y no haber perdido tiempo..
mmmmmm i dont know????? but colin has his steering turn wrong way as he jumps then the car lands left front wheel first/ flips ??? did he do it in purpose ???
i think colin was paid to roll his car both times. It totally happy and content with his roll over. He ran a kick ass time to let us know but gave Pastrana the gold for the headlines to boost all the hype that big money investors put into Rally America etc. They grabbed a WRC guy to stack against rally America so they can say "look". McRae as their guy. We ll know WRC is a whole other level of racing. McRae vs Solberg is a race
