Colin Scares Me & Penelope Is Hard To Like// Bridgerton szn 3 pt 1 Review 

I agree, their love story so far moved so fast and lacked any grit, they have a really intense story line and so far its been rushed and they have yet to make Pen the confident woman I'd love to see her become. i had to LOL at the last part of your comment, we need more then one intense makeout. thank you for watching🫶🏽

I think whistledown gets conflated a lot with other characters that used a similar plot device like A in pll or gossip girl. Pen is not as corrupt or malicious as those characters. Lady whistledown is her attempt to reclaim agency in the ton and to protect herself financially, as she’s not naive to her families lower rank, lack of prospects, and pitiful dowries. She’s pretty careful in what she reveals and most of it is already common knowledge. She is trying to uphold the virtues she believed the ton should have. The society that she supposedly belongs to, but is always mistreated and ignored by. We also have to remember any middling scandal she shares really…does not matter. It’s just chatter. Hardly any character suffers social ruin from the things she writes unless they are truly insufferable people with illegitimate and neglected children or are villains and cons. I agree the ball rolled too far from her. What started as a liberating venture for a young woman is now a behemoth of a business. The times she had to reveal something personal, it really was a last resort. With Marina NO ONE would believe pen if she told the Bridgertons she was pregnant. Even if the engagement ended and Marina went back home to have her children, the ton would believe Colin ruined her and his reputation would be destroyed. The ton trusts whistledown, if the bridgertons tried to defend their honour and say she was pregnant before any courting they’d assume they were creating an elaborate lie. With Eloise, she was reckless and about to be accused of being whistledown. Marina hated being in society, she hated the pomp and she wasn’t exactly pleased with even catching a husband for stability. I think pen was hopeful George was still alive and Marina could return to him, and it really was serendipitous that his brother was willing to support her. I agree it was messy, but I’m not thinking she did this great evil. Marina’s situation was always gonna be not ideal. I feel bad for her, especially in context with the books, but I’m glad she got away from society in the end. In the end, pen hurt her own future and reputation most of all. She writes truthfully about her family and I want to unpack that kind of self sabotage. It shows she is honest to a fault when it comes to whistledown, which is funny when you think she’s an amazing liar to her friends when it comes to keeping her secret.

i love your take on this, I never considered that maybe Pen did save Colin's reputation after everything with marina. Maybe she'll mention this in the second half? I also don't think Pen is a malicious or evil character, but I would like to see her self reflect a bit. I believe she has a good heart, but even if the gossip she writes doesn't damage ppl entirely, it does create a huge sense of social discomfort and ostracizing, and social status means a lot in the Bridgerton world. I look forward to seeing how Pen changes in the next season, I hope they give her much more screen time. Thank u for watching!🫶🏽

great point! i rmbr him telling Marina if she had been honest about her situation, he would have married her without hesitation, but i think ultimately he realized what you mentioned and it allowed him to come to peace with everything

Pen is definitely a complex character, you wanna like her but then there's also parts of her that make you hesitate (imo). You're absolutely right, she got away with the Marina situation when that was incredibly cruel (both to marina and even Colin) when she could've addressed the situation much differently. I love tht Lady W is her craft in work, but she uses it as a weapon against anyone that wrongs her 😔 But I truly hope the next half explores her complexities more and makes her come face to face with her flaws, thank you for watching!🫶🏽
