I really appreciated the part reiterating the need for some kind of focus when you're still in the beginning stages of a breeding project. We've been "starting" for a few months now and I'm glad that Tom has a great handle on the genetics ... otherwise it might be easy to think we're just building a collection of stunning retics with no end-game. It's nice to have some validation that collecting many animals with compatible traits and potential pairings in mind is just as much a valid focus as dialing in on a small set of genetic goals with a small number of animals. Great TEUT this week!
@scarolina360
@scarolina360 6 лет назад
Drew Jaynes it can be tough because there is so much awesome stuff out there. For instance I love amel and genetic stripe. But right now, other than my velvet, I have nothing that works with them. So eventually I will add that to my genetic list when my snakes are making money. Keep it up man. Hit me up if you have any question s
@DrewJaynes
@DrewJaynes 6 лет назад
Joseph Hull We've built up a fairly impressive (in our opinion) collection of retics we feel will ultimately give us the greatest return on investment, while still allowing for a lot of variety in what we produce. Pretty much every retic was chosen with a third, fourth, and fifth year roadmap in mind.

Amazing advice and really enjoyed the conversation going on. l would give anything to get into super dwarfs, they are incredible, well honestly retics for their intelligence is what l see in them. l am in Australia so of course l cannot have them for that reason but l have carpet pythons that l find to be highly intelligent snakes, l guess l am more passionate about that side of them, then the breeding but my dream would to have just one super dwarf in my life to care for and learn as much from having one as l could. Great video and l always enjoy them and get my retic fix too.

I started collecting two years ago. I've only got three baby ball pythons and a huge colony of mice. When I move into a one bedroom I hope to start collecting a bit more and larger rodents. I want the weirdest species honestly. From legless lizards to blue p metalica tarantulas.

One of these days when I have a butt load of money to treat myself I will own a super dwarf. Lol it's a serious investment snake though XD
@ReachOutReptiles
@ReachOutReptiles 5 лет назад
They start around $350, and cost under $10 a month to maintain as adults. Other costs will include housing, which varies. Only has to be a serious investment if you are seriously investing in them. They are also within reach of hobbyist keepers that just want a pet.
@taeviansworldofreptiles3828
@taeviansworldofreptiles3828 5 лет назад
@@ReachOutReptiles $350 really!! Last time I was looking into then the ones I kept seeing were all 4 digits deep price wise lol. That's awesome! I may end up with a second retic if I find a dwarf at that price!
