@@sydveon6812 That's not true. It's her doing a Southern accent, which is a requirement for Dawn. She didn't deliberately choose to make her Dawn sound like Miranda, however I do hear it though
Most musicals have much more complicated blocking and choreography than this. It’s really not that impressive. The singing quality is not great, she has a tendency to go flat on high notes. Definitely an overrated talent.
@@expired3939 Blocking is where and when an actor moves on stage and also what they do. Every time you see anyone move on stage it’s always blocked that way. Even if someone walks 2 steps to their right it’s always blocked that way!
The fact that she was out of breath and still managed to hit the high note is awesome. Same with every Broadway performer as well. It takes a lot of energy so great job.
I love that you talk about the high note because Sara bareilles originally attended for it not to be a high note on her waitress album it’s not a belting high jote
I think she is just a mouth breather. I’m not just saying that because of the scrutiny she’s under currently, she truly does just seem to only breathe from her mouth.
@@LisaGamingROBLOX it isn't tho? She's out of breath, doesn't have the support to belt in many parts and sometimes she's off key. Comparing her performance to Kimiko is a crime
I hear Miranda in some parts😭 I’ve been watching Colleen since I was very little, so maybe it’s just me who picks up the Miranda LMFAOO Edit: I now regret watching her from a young age. Now if u excuse me, I will be burning my ukulele now🤍
im so proud of her!! ive been watching her since i was little talking about he she wanted to be on broadway and no one gave her the opportunity but she's finally done it!
I’m so sad, I remember this and remember loving this, it’s a shame to hear about the drama and scandal she’s caused and how much hurt she’s caused people, especially minors
@@schojdfjf6495 that wasn’t even an apology video, that video was just her singing about how annoyed she was and how much none of it was her fault, she’s such a disappointment
I just came from Kimiko's version and IMMEDIATELY can tell the difference between the overall quality, especially in the vocals... and the southern accent
@@dayxo it is related. She wanted to be on broadway for a long time and her destruction of her career isn’t going to put her in a production ever again, any time soon.
@@cloverring well duh. but just because she destroyed her career people wanna all of a sudden say she sucked when they were literally supporting her before 😭 it’s just very much fake behavior but 🤷🏽
All I hear is Miranda Sings with a Southern accent. Okay, so technically this is better than how the Miranda character sings, but she still sounds like a Southern Miranda.
I think she has super pretty moments sprinkled throughout, but it’s all held together by very tense and nervous transitions. I’m very new to this Miranda/Colleen world-like I knew of her, just never watched any content until this “Traumageddon” event and the ensuing disclosures of victim statements piqued my curiosity over the edge. I had also never heard of Kimiko Glen before seeing folks recommend watching her performance and wow wow wow-Kimiko sounded amazing. It’s not just the “big” moments-like she transitioned from the dialogue to staccato to emotionally nuanced delivery back to staccato and then soft and then cranking out some emotional belting and it all felt sooooooo natural, connected, and effortless-and like a natural extension of this character’s emotional state and struggle with social/romantic anxiety. I think that’s the magic word: effortless. Like obviously it’s hard as hell to do that, but it’s clear that Kimiko is a consummate professional who planned breaths with Terminator-level precision so she would never compromise the flow of the song. Within a few verses I felt like I had full understanding of the character with Kimiko’s rendition. With Colleen’s version I can tell the character is neurotic, but I’m struggling so much to find her “theory” behind the character. It almost comes off like she’s just saying words and popping in some flourishes that occasionally stick the landing-but it’s more of an imitation of human emotion where the social anxiety of the character is diminished by the bombastic and confident delivery of Colleen. Idk how to convey it, but basically Kimiko’s version pulled me in while Colleen’s version left me feeling like I was doing all the effort trying to get sucked in to the performance. And the audience shouldn’t be exerting effort to get sucked into the song-it should just happen. That said, I can see where Colleen’s fans would have been so excited and happy for her before the recent info dumps about how wretched and despicable her behavior is. When you’re a fan, it’s easy to put on blinders and just hear the pretty moments. I think Colleen did have super pretty moments sprinkled in, but she def seemed like she was at the mercy of the song overall as opposed to Kimiko giving that vibe where she clearly had the song figured out and had full command over how to make the song her own. From that little bit at the end, it seems like in a live setting Colleen is better off sticking to softer acoustic performances. Like i think her gentle singing voice is legitimately super pretty and seems like it comes pretty effortless to her. Or if the songs have belting, maybe songs with a slower tempo and less dynamics to grapple with would be a better choice. At the same time, maybe this was all nerves and she’s she’s actually a rockstar? In that case, sing your heart out, but maybe work on some stage fright exercises. That’s my fair, outsider take on the singing as someone who likes to get my money’s worth when i buy a ticket for a premium live music experience like broadway or a celebrity musician concert. But as someone who came in blind and has learned about her behind the scenes behavior…rot in hell, Colleen. Truly demonic behavior. What the actual f is wrong with you???
The saddest part about all of this is that Kimiko recently posted her paycheck of 2 dollars on instagram in support of the actors strike. She's superhumanly talented and hardworking and still can't make enough money to pay the bills. Meanwhile people like Colleen are millionaires.
I think this was a bad casting. I get people are comparing it to singing on RU-vid and how she did “good for RU-vid singer” but performing live with choreography is a completely skillset. It’s why people focus on musical theatre as a career to hone these skills. I wasn’t expecting Kimiko Glenn bc that’s unbeatable but I think people would be a lot more critical of this performance if she didn’t already have a dedicated fan base.
Honestly, it sounds too much like “Miranda” and she doesn’t fully fit the character. She gives me “about to fly off the handle psycho”. I don’t know. Maybe because we now know she’s a groomer that’s affecting my interpretation.
Nah she's just not a good actress and the only thing she can do is the "crazy girl who doesn't take anything seriously", it just lacked real emotions in the parts that were needed making her seem like she was wierdly joking
It's so disappointing and disgusting to hear the drama and what Colleen is actually like... I found her channel a few years ago and loved her performance but to find out what she was grooming kids and other awful things is disappointing
@@mandemelon I recommend Adam McIntyre’s channel for a more in-depth look into what happened, as I don’t believe a single RU-vid comment could really explain it in full. Basically, Colleen was exposed for talking to her underage fans in inappropriate ways, and attempting to take advantage of them (labour-wise, not sexually). She sent a 14 year old a pair of bra and panties, and interacted with minors in many more inappropriate ways. You can find a lot more examples on the internet, as many victims have started to come forward with their stories. (Again, I recommend Adam McIntyre, he has been very outspoken in his treatment from Colleen and how traumatic it was, as well as covered the stories of many of the other victims).
I always thought she had a beautiful voice. I was so happy when she made it to Broadway. Now to find out what she is really like, I'm so disappointed 😞
I really don't think she fits this part at all. Her tone is too mezzo. You need a true soprano for that part. She also can't pull off the awkward innocence of Dawn, IMO.
so weird how bias works. now that all her past actions have resurfaced, people think this performance sucks, when comments were overwhelmingly positive before. it’s honestly fascinating lol
I mean all the drama aside, this specific performance was mid. She did quite well, but the voice she uses for Dawn (which is fine on its own) sounds a lot like Miranda to people so that makes it sound bad to people. Also, because her run was only a few weeks long, she wasn't able to build up the stamina required for the insane choreography/blocking for this song while singing those loud high notes so she was out of breath a lot. I know for a fact this was one of her first performances too. All things considered, despite the fact that she's a horrible person, she did quite well for so early in her run.
@@maxsamil5663 i saw her in waitress in 2019. i never thought this was a bad performance by any means but she doesn`t hold a candle to kimiko glenn. i will say this recording sounds worse than she did when i saw her but i was never really impressed by her performance. i was much more captivated with alison luff as jenna, who blew me away with a rendition of a song that i was completely sick of hearing over and over again as a theater kid at that time
Im not sure it its bias. The blinders come off when you see the real person. She is a fair singer. But definitely not as good as people made her out to be.
People are liking this?? I‘m sorry but she was so out of breath for the whole number… I kept waiting for it to get better but it never came😂also, sadly all I can hear is Miranda.. so it’s a bit off putting for me tbh. Don’t get me wrong, her vibrato is surprisingly good but there is no breath support whatsoever.
Let’s just be for real. This was not the best casting ever. I honestly don’t think she was fit for Dawn or broadway in general. And now that she’s been exposed, it just makes it funnier, let’s get her the ukulele.
Love Colleen she’s amazing don’t get me wrong, but I gotta say based on what I’ve seen on RU-vid Kimiko Glenn was simply in another league in comparison. Kimiko was just superior in every way possible, she’s the best “Dawn” I’ve seen after watching all the clips on RU-vid. What are your opinions?
Yeah I agree Kimiko was better, but she was better than all the other girls that played Dawn. In Colleen's defense though, Kimiko had been doing musicals consistently without stopping all the way to when she got on Broadway. Colleen started off rough because she just needed practice with the stamina and took a while to improve breath control and consistency. But she sounded very good towards the end of her run
I actually don’t think Colleen did a very good job, I think she did ok but it just didn’t feel very believable. I felt like she was pretending it was on her show almost like she didn’t fully commit to waitress. And I just don’t think she fits as dawn, if anything her voice is better for deeper tones like Jenna’s. But just my thoughts
i'm trying to be objective here: i know she's talented but holy shit this was so bad. off rhythm in a few places, uneven voice, accent sounded like miranda in the beginning... she probably would have been much better were this not on stage with so much choreo. too bad lol
Not usually a person who replies to old comments, though I am curious. How do you feel now after eveything about her has come out? Do you feel that (outside of her controversy) that her performance here is still good?
alright so the thing is, i don’t really know the full story to why she posted that apology ukulele video. i hate those people who accused her so terribly like that, bc it’s definitely destroyed her at this point. i don’t believe she’s a bad person, she just wanted to people to see how sorry she was. but as of what’s everyone’s saying here, i honestly don’t know what to think…. i think her performance here is good still yes. i love colleen, she’s beautiful, talented and funny, but i just wish i knew the whole story to why she’s being judged so harshly which lead to her break on RU-vid..
Maybe look into what she’s being accused of then? The list is long, but she’s a child groomer who sends porn to children and talks to minors about sex and other inappropriate topics. Her accusers are victims, she deserves everything that is coming her way.
@@aliciak7700 she was grooming miners. Just look up Colleen Ballinger drama and you should see loads of videos going into detail about it. She was probably not the best person the be a fan of but how were people supposed to predict she was like that right 🤷
Ive never been the hugest fan of her version. I don’t like how she sounds like Miranda throughout the whole song. She’s not horrible though. If Kimiko’s version didn’t exist, I’d love this
That’s the thing. I’m not going say she can’t sing. Because she can. she has a decent voice. But more a “ posting singing video on RU-vid type voice” my issue is that she is not even remotely as talented as she is convinced herself she is. I also believe she drastically over exaggerated her musical theatre training she act like she has such hard to degree to get but realistically unless your going to Juilliard its not hard to get into theatre school. Again you pretty much just have to be able to hold a tune. the producers got a lot of crap from the broadway community for giving her the role. Broadways actors worked there whole live to get roles like that and all Colleen had to do is be able to hold a tune and boom the part is hers The producers and casting people actually regretted the decision to cast her after opening night when her fans flood the theatre. Apparently they were incredibly disruptive before, during, and after the show. When she was on stage they would scream her name or other stuff. When she wasn’t on stage they didn’t seem to even care about the actual show and would talk and make tiktok videos. Then they flooded the exiting door trying to get autographs making it so the other actor’s have to squeeze through a crowd of crazy preteens to get out. She was ask to control her fans during the shows out of respect for the other actors but she brushed it off as the producers being “ Haters” and she did the bare minimum if that to stop her fans Which screwed her in the end because she pretty much got blacklist from broadway which is hard to come back from btw ( to be clear she wasn’t let go from broadway because of all the creepy shit she did with fans this was before she wasn’t canceled ) she was let go because no one wanted to cast her in anything because they knew her fans came with her and would tried to turn it into a meet in greet. There a certain expectation of respect when you watch a broadway show. It not a Taylor swift concert you can’t scream and yell at the actors ( unless it is part of the show) phone are supposed to be off and put away. And your supposed to be quiet and watch the show. Part me think she love that her fans did this as she felt it made her look better then the other actor because she had “ adoring fans base” ( why she thought professional broadway actors would be jealous a bunch of disrespectful 10-14 years old liked her I don’t know)
