i completely relate to erik about how he feels about his anxiety, my anxiety is based around being worried about getting anxious. i stop myself from going places because i am scared i will get anxious there which ends up giving me anxiety. it’s such a mind game and it sucks because it can stop you from going where u want to go. just like he said with disney land, he doesn’t like it there because of that experience. and i feel the same way about restaurants and other places.

Colleen was worried about cutting Erik off and talking over him in this episode but I love the dynamic they have together. I know why she is so hard on herself sometimes but I wish she was a little kinder on herself sometimes. She is a brave wonderful woman who is having a hard pregnancy and also has adhd to contend with on a daily basis. I wish she could see herself for the wonderful woman she is!

I agree! Makes me sad she feels self concious but dont blame her because people really comment on how rude she is that she interrupts and how can Erik stand her and crappy things like that and makes sense that it would get to you. Especially with something like that which she already doesnt like about herself!

@carriannesquires6964 2 года назад
@PeaceSeeker049 she said in her vlog that she noticed it when she was watching the video before she posted it. I don’t think it was about the comment section as she hadn’t seen that yet but she is very hard on herself especially now that she is pregnant and it’s a difficult time for her. I think she is doing an amazing job considering she has adhd and is unmedicated atm which she said about in her vlog so it’s harder for her to concentrate on conversations etc. She just needs to give herself some love rather than criticism but it’s hard to do that for yourself
@TdScar

It can be frustrating. I have adhd and am a HORRIBLE interrupter and I don’t realize I’m doing it at the time and when I do realize I’m doing it I feel bad that I’m interrupting because I know it’s annoying for other people even if they understand my adhd and my struggles with it. Even though they know it’s not on purpose it can be annoying and you never want to come off rude to people

As a fellow lady with ADHD, and knowing Colleen felt self conscious about her unmedicated pregnant ADHD self in this video, I gotta say the whole thing made me cry tears of laughter because I've never related so hard to someone else's energy. It is a GIFT to me whenever I meet a fellow unmedicated ADHDer because it makes my soul come alive, even if it is a bit too chaotic for the normies. I know it's frustrating to live with, but I think it's also kind of excellent..

The whole segment about your panic/anxiety attacks is SO relatable for me. 6 years ago I was diagnosed with chronic anxiety and a panic disorder. I also get a numb/tingling face, hands and neck during a panic attack. And TOTALLY related to Erik when he said it isn't the anxiety.. it's the anxiousness about having another attack. That caused me to have so many more panic/anxiety attacks, just thinking about when it could happen again. Thank you for talking about this! More people need to hear it. ❤
@georgia673
@georgia673 2 года назад
Yes I loved that he talked about this. I suffer from panic disorder too. It's so strange to think when I was younger all I was anxious about was social situations and now my anxiety has completely changed to being consumed by my fear of panic attacks. I would love for Erik to talk about it more as I haven't really heard many people talk about panic disorder.
@kelseytabone8101
@kelseytabone8101 2 года назад
@@georgia673 Yes! I was pleasantly surprised he shared so much with us since he is more of a private person, but also because in my experience most people that deal with crippling anxiety/ panic disorder don't talk about it in detail. Especially men, again.. that's just my experience. I think between the misconceptions from society and the general fear of having another attack.. it keeps most people from talking or bringing awareness. I'm going on 7 years with a diagnosis and I wrote my original post 4 times before I finally posted it. lol Again, super proud of both of them for being so open with us. It made me feel seen/understood and the whole time I was audibly agreeing with them. 🤣

Not a shed but a dedicated room for all things Christmas including a year round tree or two. You have a big house. There must be a room that is not used that can be permanently decorated. Colleen stays up all night being creative this could work.

Fun fact! The umbilical cord (more specifically the umbilical vein) actually serves a purpose after birth in the baby! It becomes the round ligament of the liver, called ligamentum teres which can essentially help someone in the future if they have liver disease such as cirrhosis or portal hypertension to drain blood from the liver! This!!! A great compromise, Colleen said she decorates every room. Maybe keep one living room without decorations

@giabarrone7422 2 года назад
The problem is that he has to take care of Flynn and Colleen 24/7 so there would be no "time off" to relax in a room alone. He'd have to be in all the common spaces which Colleen want to decorate now.
@mmgogre9973
@mmgogre9973 2 года назад
Maybe if the non-Christmas room was a major family room? Like one they use daily…. Then he’d have a room that he spends time in where he isn’t surrounded… but, Colleen could still decorate the other rooms… then, they could also downsize on the amount of decorations that they then have to store away…

I don't enjoy decorating for Christmas early because the season is less exciting if it takes up 1/4 of the year. If you have access to the joy of Christmas all the time (or a large percentage of it) it will get old, you don't get the experience of a magical time that you have to wait for every year. It's the same reason Starbucks has pumpkin spice only in the fall, because if they had it available all the time, it wouldn't be something to look forward to or savour for the time you do have it, and over time would be less exciting and enjoyable. It is also harder to identify the specific ~vibe~ of the season and relate it to different things around you like the daylight, scents, weather, etc if that makes any sense at all. I also agree that it's overstimulating, and for myself I can't relax at all when I don't have control over my physical surroundings in my own home. So I do understand it in that aspect as well.

Erik, I completely understand your struggles with anxiety. I had my first panic attack a year and a half ago. And that was beginning of my fear of panic attacks. I went on to have panic attacks every couple weeks until my therapist pointed out that I was having them because I was expecting to have them. So I had to change my way of thinking from "Oh God I'm going to have a panic attack today" to "I'm okay. I'm not going to have a panic attack". It's been over a year since my last full blown panic attack and yet I fear it everyday. And I fear feeling anxious because I am scared that feeling will turn into a panic attack. Lexapro has helped me a lot thank goodness.

ERIK I couldn’t agree with you more- I completely understand this type of anxiety and it’s so hard to explain. I have suffered for anxiety for years and used to have a panic disorder- the WORST part wasn’t anything specific it was being terrified of being triggered into panic. When people say they have anxiety because they’re worried about something like a test- NOT the same. Having anxiety for a moment vs having an anxiety disorder is truly worlds different. I avoided going out of my dorm room for 3 months in college, and the fear of fear is something I’ve had to deal with since.

Thank you Eric for opening up about your anxiety episode…….My son had his first episode at 25, he had just got a new job and it came with a big raise and he had a big anxiety episode. He now has medication and that makes him feel better knowing he has meds that can help. He is an old soul, and is very sensitive (seems very similar to Eric). And similarly, when I was pregnant with him, I had a huge anxiety episode that sounded very similar to Colleens……the amount of pressure you feel when you have a rough pregnancy and can’t be the same energetic, capable person, then having all the pain and sick yuck too…….I am surprised that everyone who is pregnant doesn’t have multiple episodes! Thank you both for being honest, and open…it will help so many, 28 years ago when I had my episode nobody that I knew could relate and it made me feel like I was the absolute worse at being pregnant. You guys are the best!

I'm a single mom with PTSD and newly developed social anxiety (after being isolated for the last... however long it been 😅) It was my kids' school homecoming last week and they wanted to go to the high-school football game since their friends were going (they are in 2nd & 3rd grade) Their friend's sister is on the cheerl squad and they would be able to cheer with the team if they went. As we were getting ready to leave, a panic attack hits. I was crying and hysterical and acting like a complete child "I don't wanna go!" I had to talk myself down and reassure myself that this was for my kids and that I was giving them the experiences that I never received growing up. It was terrible. I'm in a new city, in a new career and have always been insecure throughout my life (PTSD has definitely intensified all of that... and I, too, have ADHD- diagnosed at 29). I pulled myself together and we finally made it to the game around half-time. Although I didn't know anybody there, the kids had SO MUCH FUN and watching them interact with their friends and actually being able to cheer with "the squad" made it all worth it 💝 I am so proud of myself for overcoming my panic attack and giving my kids a great experience 🥰💪👩‍👧‍👧 Today I was cleaning out my wallet and found a "fortune" that I felt the need to save from a fortune cookie- it read: "Fear is interested paid on a debt that you may not owe"

It is absolutely okay and good to talk about your experiences with anxiety and panic attacks. Thanks to Erik for giving this personal insight, it also got me thinking about how I could not be in crowded places for some time because it made me so stressed. And the reason was also not because of the people but because I feared I would get anxious among all those people around me. It really got better with slow exposure therapy, I absolutely enjoy concerts and similar events now, however, after Corona these experiences will be new once again. Hope it stays good and calm :) And hope that Erik can enjoy Disneyland someday :D

I agree with both of their arguments about the Christmas decorating. Personally my family does decorations around the middle of November. I understand why Erik doesn't like the decorations being up as early as Colleen. But it makes her happy, and i understand why she keeps them up for as long as she does. Christmas decorations are a lot and only leaving them up for a little bit seems pointless to me.

It’s so crazy to me how mad people get about the Christmas decorations topic. As someone who doesn’t love Christmas and the decorations I genuinely don’t care when people decorate. Sure I’ll roll my eyes sometimes when that time comes and there’s music in the stores and on the radio and Christmas decorations in stores but it literally doesn’t effect me in any way when people decide to decorate their houses lol I’m on colleens side on this one. Decorate early your deserve it. But also make sure Erik has his space that is Christmas free. 😅

Colleen, people weren’t coming for you because of when you wanted to decorate. People were siding with Eric because you came off as very selfish, not listening to him or caring about his feelings. It was like it’s my way or the highway and not willing to compromise. Nothing to do with your happiness or the decorations.

I want to say about your face going numb during the panic attack. It doesn't necessarily mean anything related to oxygen. Anxiety can manifest as somatic (feeling) symptoms without any real cause that's identifiable. My face goes numb along with other parts of my body when I become anxious, even if I'm breathing relatively normally. I have been diagnosed with somatic symptom disorder, and I have numbness and pain all over my body from anxiety. It totally sucks, but it's so good to know there's a reason behind it.

On Halloween when I was a sophomore in college, I was walking back to my dorm at midnight. I had just gotten back from a choir trip that was long and stressful, my boyfriend and I at the time had gotten into a huge fight on the bus ride home and he left me to sit with his ex-girlfriend on the bus the whole 5 hour ride back, I was recovering from the flu (that I tried to rush getting over so I could go on this trip), and on the ride home the person in front of me had the window open and all the cold air was blowing on me and after singing all weekend + breathing in frigid air + flu remnants I lost my voice (devastating for a voice major). Long run in sentence to say I had a very bad day. On the walk to the dorm, a guy popped out of a bush with a Freddy mask on and a fake chainsaw and scared me. All I could do was croak out a pitiful scream with my lost voice and rasped at him “DONT DO THAT!!! IM HAVING A BAD DAY…” His reaction still makes me laugh to this day: “Oh…. Sorry…. H-h-happy Halloween?” 😂

That anxious about feeling anxious feeling is something that I feel all the time. Like Erik, I'm a pretty private person, so just thinking about going through an anxiety attack or panic attack in front of people stresses me out even more, and drives my anxiety even harder. It's also the reason I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder, apparently if the fear of having another panic/anxiety becomes intense enough it can even lead to agoraphobia.

I totally relate to Erik with the anxiety and anxiousness. I have always been really afraid to get sick anywhere in public. After having my first anxiety attack about it and feeling like I was sick to my stomach while the world was closing up on me and taking 1-3 hours to get over it I always have gotten anxious about being anxious and having anxiety attacks. So I get anxious and then feel anxious about it so I just get more and more anxious until I have an anxiety attack. I have gotten way better but it sometimes sneaks up on me. It feels so good to have someone relate to me and it feels like i’m not alone

I TOTALLY understand Colleen about decorating early. Christmas to me is soo special. It’s about the same reason as her, family. It’s the one time in the year that we celebrate with beautiful lights and a dinner and all of my cousins being happy opening their presents and that to me is a gift itself. My family is in a different country so going to go see my grandparents and then every one else is just so great and exciting for me. My grandpa passed last year and I did not decorate as much maybe a small little black Halloween tree that I put little ornaments on because I just didn’t want to pull out the big tree in my room. That’s how Ik Christmas is so special to me and it helps my mental health honestly. Whenever I see people upset about decorating early it makes me a little bit upset but not too much because like 1. I’m not going to your house and decorating it and 2. It makes me genuinely happy and makes me feel better. It’s to the point where a Christmas song can make me cry. I understand some of y’all have bad Christmas season experiences but I’m sorry to say but that doesn’t mean others can’t make themselves happy and celebrate it a little earlier. If you feel the need to bully someone about it then honestly therapy would be a really good idea so you’re able to enjoy stuff like this without having to be so hateful♥️

I can’t even explain how much I relate to you Erik! I also had an anxiety attack before I ever knew I had anxiety, and it was also in a place where I just kinda had to stick it out. After the initial wave, I basically just had one long anxiety attack for the rest of the week. Ever since, the vast majority of my anxiety is simply me being worried about being anxious. The fear of fear itself is a pretty vicious cycle. I’m so glad you talked about this, I have never heard of anybody else who has this similar type of anxiety. It’s great to know I’m not alone!

I'm listening to this on a road trip and I just pulled over to let Eric know I 100% I have the same problem where you get anxious about having a panic attack therefore causing panic attacks. Whenever you're feeling like that the best thing for me to think about is remembering it always passes. There's nothing you can do to make it stop usually (but some things can help) but it always passes. Remind yourself you will not feel this way forever ❤️

When I was a student I couldn’t study in a “cluttered” space because it was overwhelming and I couldn’t concentrate. It feels like a similar topic here where they’re already managing the clutter of a toddler and then add the micromanaging of the Christmas decor in the main areas. I get it. I also LOVE the idea of an over the top, year round Christmas room.

I honestly don’t think it’s an issue of decorating early as much as it is HOW much you decorate if that makes sense. Maybe for him it’s an overwhelming amount of decorations and he thinks the later allllll these decorations come out, the better. Just my two cents!

For Colleen, we have a tiled shower bench, too. When I want to sit I take a hand towel into the shower with me that I can sit on so I’m not sitting on the cold tile. Maybe that might be a quick helpful tip for you. Another option could be to have a cushion made from weather-proofed cushion material (like for poolside); but, you’d need time to find/buy that.

Erik, thank you for opening up and sharing your experience with anxiety. I can relate so much. I've come to realize I've delt with anxiety all my life, but recently it was the worst it'd ever been. I used to rarely have panic attacks, but I began having them more frequently and it caused my body to constantly dump adrenaline being anxious about when another panic attack might come on. It's the worst. And I was so uneducated about it until it happened to me. I can't honestly say I don't think I've met another person who described it as accurately or in a way I related to so much. It's nice to know I'm not crazy or alone.
