Ohio State 😂😂😂 Nah Alabama usually researches their FCS teams pretty well. Thats why Western Carolina, and Furman are consistent teams they schedule. Imagine Alabama losing by 7 to James Madison, Towson or New Hampshire in Tuscaloosa, visting team wouldn't make it out of the city limits alive. Those Bama fans tend to be hicks who doesn't accept losses well. 10 traffic tickets before the board a plane, drugs would somehow show up on a team bus, weapons charges and etc...it'll be excuse city 😂
Daniel Penrod I agree Appalachian State became FBS after they had been a force for so long so hopefully it's only a matter of time and I fully believe in sending down teams who underperform back down
Lmao I know, except the team that Kansas was playing had Zach Zenner as their RB, and in case you don't know, hes the RB for the Detroit Lions currently... so they were playing against a pro RB
FeedMeTheButter thats an excuse? Its college football. EVERYBODY IN THE NFL PLAYED COLLEGE FOOTBALL. If you play college football, YOU ARE GOING TO PLAY FUTURE NFL PLAYERS. Stupidest comment I've ever seen.
I remember the day app state upset the big house. You can’t tell me that isn’t probably one of the greatest memories those guys will ever have. I love college football
the FCS isn't that much worse than the FBS anymore. The top of the FCS usually do well against all but top 15 teams, and the average FCS team can usually win against lower end FBS teams, even in power conferences. Look at Richmond vs Virginia. Richmond has beaten UVA consistently. And yes, the Dakotas need to be in the FBS, as both of them not just beat their FBS opponents, but sometimes kick their asses.
Global Warming Skeptic real talk man never really been that much of difference. But the better fcs are better off staying out of the fbs. Fbs is only gonna award top teams they could care less about the others
As a James Madison grad, let me just give you a "hell yeah" on that one. Richmond is tough. Virginia as a state usually has a couple of good FCS programs in any given year. JMU vs. Virginia Tech a few years ago, anyone? And NDSU is just constant unending beast mode. We beat them on their home turf in the semis in 2016-17, they came back and beat us in the championship in 2017-18. They are absolutely amazing. I thought Georgia Southern and Appalachian State were dynasties in FCS/I-AA in their time, I think the Bison have pulled ahead of them both now.
82nd Division Just because a school is in the FCS doesn't mean they're a smaller college. Northern Arizona (FCS) has 30,000 students and Louisiana-Monroe (FBS) has 8,800
I remember when Saban first got to Alabama. A little ole school, University of Louisiana at Monroe went to Tuscaloosa and won 21-14. It was funny. ULM put up a billboard with the score. Alabama had to come through Monroe to get to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.
The best highlights of App St beating Michigan was all of the reactions from Penn St and tOSU fans. The Michigan State win in that botched punt was funny as hell too.
@@treymagathan847 That don't mean nothing K-State has owned Kansas they've had the Jayhawks Number Kansas is the Cleveland Browns of College Football and I'm a Longhorn Fan
Honestly I think moving up to the FBS would hurt NDSU. Right now they can use competing for a national championship as a recruiting tool. Sure it's a lower division, but some kids would rather be a part of that then just some run of the mill non-Power 5 FBS school. They will never make the FBS playoff.
@@zarnyx1797 but it is possible being in a P5 conference. Let's say an Iowa State or a NC State runs the table in their respective conferences, they will have a real shot. Non P5 schools it takes far more dominoes to fall into place to get a chance.
Amazing that the biggest upset in division 1 college football history versus the point spread, wasn't included in this piece. Howard University beat UNLV 43-40 in 2017.
In the GSU vs UF game, Georgia Southern had the entire San Francisco 49ers backfield playing. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida both played at GSU that season.
As a KU student, an FCS school beating us isn't an upset, and also NDSU beating a mid to low-tier FBS team isn't an upset. NDSU really needs to move up a division and face us all like men instead of winning FCS every year and sniping a couple FBS teams each year lol
Something no one seems to be talking about...... All upsets were ALSO VISITING TEAMS. Makes those losses a lil bit worse. Considering there's like 130 or so FBS football programs now, which I think is about twice as much as it should be, it's hard for one NOT to lose to an FCS team. I still think the BIGGEST upset in a long time was App St @ The Big House. Keep in mind, Michigan was ranked #4. They haven't been quite the same legendary program since then. Still shocks me watching that highlight. That was like the least expected upset EVER!
How Legends Are Made Skip Holtz was fired. That game was in 2013 (Willie Taggart's first year) when we went 2-10. We got better in 2015 (8-5) and broke a school record in 2016 (11-2)
You should find a tape of the 1998 game of North Alabama (D2) upsetting FBS La.-Lafayette in Lafayette. That was a shocker. Last time a D2 won a game against an FBS. This fall North Alabama now becomes a D1 school with football at the FCs level.
Most people tend to ignore that some of these teams are really good. I know its FCS over FBS, but both North Dakota St and Appalachian St were 2--time or better (NDSt was a 5-time) defending FCS champion at the time of the win. Don't get me wrong, these are great upset still.
This is what you get for playing FCS teams. Kind of like Alabama playing Mercer, The Citadel or Western Wyoming Fashion Academy. Of course they go undefeated every year. They play 2 or 3 REAL teams. And 85% of those games are within 300 miles of home. Real tough.
