Pat loves the NFL. David Pollock loves college football. Pat McAfee Show is great, and I was excited about him going to the show, but he was just yelling and being obnoxious.
I'll never understand why people like his show so much. It's just a bunch of meat heads talking about football like children. If you listen to McAfee's "analysis," he's not really saying anything of substance. He'll say something like: "That team, they looked hungry. They looked angry! They had a couple plays in that game that made you go, 'Oh, that was nice'. But that defense they were up against, man, are those some real men. Those are some real DAWGS! They had a couple plays where they came flying in there and BAM... yeah, you know what I'm saying, just woke them up!" Like, what the fuck does any of that mean?
Also they lost a few other things that Lee had vs Pat like Lee loves college football. Pat I love his show but I don't think he loves college football the way Lee did.
College GameDay was always about the fans, every fan. Throwing jabs at Washington State and Oregon State is pretty disrespectful. And those fans have all the right to feel the way they are feeling, ESPN is the main reason the Pac-12 is dead and those two programs are in very uncertain situations.
How could it be ESPNs fault that pac 12 fell apart? And "throwing jabs at washington state and oregon state"? It's called a joke...not a dick. Don't take it sooo hard 🤣
@@mitchbrown6652the greedy networks are the reason realignment happened in the first place. They are the reason for the rule changes this year to shove in more commercial time. They are the reason the smaller collegiate sports will have to figure out how to travel across country for “conference games”. The House of Mouse can’t handle that people are disgusted by their business practices so the company is squeezing as much as they can out of ESPN and college sports.
I also find it funny how McAfee said something along the lines of “I wanna see a West Virginia flag flying every week”. Like, if that’s what you want than do it. The only reason Ol’ Crimson is there every week for 20 years straight is because someone was dedicated enough to show up with it each time
me either me and my wife use to getup and watch cgd but we stopped watching as soon as they started with there liberal sjw garbage that was at least 5 yrs ago so hadnt watched for a longtime and dont plan on watching anymore
I definitely agree with you, the chemistry on College Gameday especially with Pat is kinda a mess. That being said, I will still watch College Gameday because of the nostalgia I have for it. Waking up early to watch it brings back memories and makes new memories.
I used to love watching Gameday on Saturday mornings. I still have it on now but it just doesn’t feel the same, kind of like the real passion for college football just isn’t there anymore.
The old College Gameday with Chris Fowler, a much younger Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit was so much better. Then, ESPN decided to hire a bunch of ex-jocks like Jesse Palmer, Desmond Howard, Danny Kanell, David Pollack, etc. I know that Herbstreit played too, but he's never been obnoxious, so he's not like those other guys.
Lee played and coached too but those but he and Kurt I like Fowler was great I used to love college game day but that was because of lee and Kirk since ncaa was my favorite sports game from 99 to 2013
As an Alumni at Washington State we are shocked that Pat said those things. We've voluntarily brought the Flag to Game Day for over 20 Years. Pat doesn't even understand the tradition & he works there.
I was an OG Pat fan. Got a bunch of friends hooked..... when he first joined GameDay at South Dakota State I was so happy. In last 2 years I've fallen out of love with his show. Don't hate it, just prioritize watching it anymore. I was excited he was on GameDay as I previously tuned out of GameDay for many of reasons you covered (sad for Corso) but mainly they showed they didn't care for little guys. Went to Ohio State for 29th time over Missoula MT for first time. Thought Pat might win me back.... it's been opposite. Show is worse than ever. I put Big Noon and GameDay side by side for Colorado v Colorado State.... wasn't even close which one was more enjoyable looking on TV. I miss Reggie a lot, Mark has been a above average fill in. They just need to dump Urban. Throw money at Pete Carroll, Saban or maybe Patterson.
As a huskies fan it makes me mad just how bad of a hand oregon state and especially washington state got dealt in this. Wazzu are arguably better than us huskies this season and yet they got shafted without no invite to a big conference, which they ABSOLUTELY deserved.
I used to love the segment back in the day when they would go to a local restaurant and talk about its history and food. It really felt like you were visiting the campus when Gameday was there and it really highlighted what made college football so unique and special.
I think McAfee was brought on as a counterbalance to Barstool. And the side affect of that is it's drawing in more casual viewers while the smaller, more knowledge, viewers are being pushed away
This is truth. I think that is why I would rather watch Josh Pate or ON3 or College Football Nerds. Game day used to be a show that had in-depth college football information. Now they just say things about teams that fans already know.
I would say that from a business perspective it’s better to go with a barstool attitude/ persona. Young men are the targeted demographic for this show since they will be the ones to watch college game day over the next 20-30 years. For some reason young men love loud and frat guy energy type of dudes. We live in a world where the casual fan is valued more than the dedicated fan.
3 Weeks ago I enjoyed Pat and seeing him on Gameday. As a MASSIVE Pac12 fan.... yeah his comments made me do a 180. These guys are so elite and detached from the regular folk that they dont really care about some schools which they should be caring about. Its truly sad to see.
@@timothykaczanowski2603No, they are not. WSU maintains the tradition of the flag at GameDay entirely on their own. It’s been funded by its own booster program since the beginning, long before ESPN decided to recognize the dedication of the fanbase. And whether they are 11-2 or 2-11, they are still waving the flag. That was the most glaring thing that Pat McAfee got wrong.
@@54raynoryou said it! A&M fan here and I love the ideas which were passed around Reddit (showing up at GameDay with like 50 Ol Crimsons and also taking Ol Crimson to the Big Noon Kickoff). Mc Afee needs to do an about face. GameDay already lost viewers to SEC Nation.. and other of ESPN smaller productions because they are always pushing a narrative rather than just giving us the facts.
what the other guys said. ESPN has nothing to do with that flag. There are a team around the nation that brings that flag to the games not ESPN@@timothykaczanowski2603
The look on Pollack's face when McAfee was on the show in Waco in 2019 said it all. McAfee was making it all about McAfee - he even jumped into the Brazos river. The guy is so self-absorbed he assumed the viewers realized the significance of it. I had no clue and had to look it up online. The guy is a clown. Pollack was like "yeah, no thanks." I felt the same way.
Been watching game day for over 23 years and I can agree with this 100%. Pat does absolutely nothing for me I don’t really even like the guy. David was awesome I don’t understand what’s been going on . As a Miami guy no more bear which is an alumn was a total L for me
9:00 I’m sorry what does his show “bring to younger people” I’m 35, I’m not 25 but I’m not 65 either. He does not bring anything, go watch Late Kick with Josh Pate if you want energy, passion, and an actual educated opinion on college football.
McAfee is a short term fix. He will spike ratings, but the existing fanbase will tune him out until the turn the show off entirely. And the new audience he brought in are not gonna stick around long-term, especially not in the numbers of the original audience they lose.
Was that an issue for you when they went to Columbus, Austin, Norman and An Arbor every week? Those games are almost always blowouts. Wasting gus Johnson’s talent
The hype around Colorado has gotten very old and annoying, yes we see the turn around, they also did it with 4 start recruits not rebuilding the program like they say
College Gameday used to feel like a celebration of the sport as a whole. Pat feels like he is trying to make it all about him and his hot takes. I was hopeful when they first announced that he would be joining, but now I wish that they would pull him if he keeps acting like this.
How does he make it about him. He’s colorful always has been. He strutted as a punter and talked shit. They hired him because of it and he’s doing what he’s paid to do.
This is Lee Corso last year on the show. He did his 400th head gear and his run is over. He stumbles through the whole show. He freezes and forgets what he wanted to say. Trust me he want be back next year
Went to gameday back in 2015 for the Temple v ND game. Back then it felt like a once in a lifetime experience considering how big a cfb fan I am, and the fact they came to my school. Over the last couple years it's felt like they've been losing the script, and that once genuine feel of love for the game has been replaced by an artificial/commercialized focus. I think it's an overall problem with cfb in general nowadays, but I definitely find myself watching Big Noon Saturdays more often than Gameday lately.
They lost me in 2020 when they had an opportunity to go to Marshall (an undefeated Marshall at that) for the first time ever on the 50th anniversary of the plane crash, but opted to go to The Masters instead. At that moment, I knew it wasn't what it was.
That was Truly a Shame. E💲PN is and has been against anything unique in not just Football but in Life Period. I do remember the Game Day opting Out of attending Marshall. And that was Wrong. 😡👎
Agree 100%. The classic Gameday vibe was light-hearted and fun, with outstanding chemistry. The show today is more of a vehicle for McAfee than anything else. It's interesting to note the disparity in poll results vs. the comments section for this video.
I think that may be a "vocal minority" thing. The people who want change/a change back have more to say. Even though I give McAfee absolutely obnoxious and don't bother with Gameday anymore only because of it, I think he probably pulls in more viewers than what pulls me in.
At 62 I've been watch ESPN COLLEGE GAMEDAY since its birth...and the biggest mistake I see (my opinion) is bringing on Pat McAfee! He's a clown and not in the fun way, I feel he's the reason its gone down and they need to give him the boot...yes pune intendant!
As an Oregon fan, I feel sorry for Washington State and Oregon State being left behind and it’s gone downhill since their layoffs as well and Lee Corso is becoming Dick Clark 2.0.
I used to like McAfee but tbh I’ve outgrown him, he’s like a 40 year old in college frat kids body. I’m shocked he’s not apart of that awful cult called Barstool Sports
Barstool Sports Following his retirement from football at the close of the 2016 season, McAfee joined Barstool Sports, where he developed the "Heartland" division of the company in Indianapolis and hosted The Pat McAfee Show on SiriusXM channel Barstool Power 85.[34] McAfee announced his separation from Barstool Sports on August 31, 2018, citing a lack of transparency with the business operations of the company as his reason for leaving.[35]
Pat McAfee, college game day is unwatchable. Have not watched it since I saw him on the very first time. David Pollack was the best not to worry though saves me a lot of time on Saturday morning.
I used to love College GameDay. I've even seen it in person a couple of times. It's been going downhill since Corso had that stroke in 2009. They also rarely go west of the Mississippi. It's mostly B1G and SEC teams now. Also, Stanford Steve kind of sucks at gambling tips.
Also, one other thing that I feel has hurt college football -- and subsequently these shows -- is that ever since College Football moved to the 4-team playoff it seems both morning shows have put too much emphasis on that. For most fans in the country (who do not root for teams that will make the playoff let alone even having a chance) they are not interested in hearing the show's hosts spend so much time on a few blue blood programs like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Oklahoma, Michigan, and others. Many fans just want to love the game of college football and they want their rivalries and their traditions. They are going to tune out when the talk centers too much on the playoff. It's nice this year that we have some new blood doing well. Next year may change some things with a 12-team playoff taking shape. And that may really help these morning shows if they handle it right.
Dude you’re reading your own preferences too much. If I want to hear about my Badgers I will listen to a WI football podcast. The whole point of the sport is to make the playoff and win a championship. How could you not talk about that while discussing the sport?
@@sharpe52312 I'm not saying that they shouldn't talk about the playoff, but it would be nice if they covered other things. If you want ratings then you have to realize most college teams are not going to be in the hunt for a title.
Des and Herbstreit played at Michigan and Ohio State respectively at the same time, that hatred doesn't die easily. And yes, Corso needed to retire a LONG time ago, it almost feels like elder abuse letting him go on TV at this point
College Gameday used to be pure. It was all about the love of the sport, not about the personalities themselves. Now it's starting to feel like first take.
I still wake up and watch the show. I don’t watch all of it I never have. I would get up partway through after a certain point leave it on and do the rest of my morning and then come back for the pics before the end.
I’ve been kinda feeling the same way tbh. I think Pollack leaving messed with the chemistry. Another thing is ESPN doesn’t have the monopoly it used to have when it comes to showing college games so it just feels different this year.
Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of all the changes. I won't be watching Gameday anymore. Before this year, I kind of liked McAfee, but no more. Going after either Oregon State or Washington State is despicable. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I don't like taking shots at people when they are down.
The thing about college gameday is that it was analytical, it was classic, it had a sense of prestige to it. Now with Pat Macfee coming in and just blurting out senseless jokes while wearing a tank top under his jacket it has brought in this image of a rich kid sitting in on his dad's business meeting for the first time. With the mix of holding onto Lee Corso and bringing in new faces who change the tradition of the show there is no real direction. Pat's character belongs on Big Noon Kickoff not College Gameday, and they just need to hand the keys over to Kirk Herbstreet or Rece Davis and let them hire whoever they want for the show.
Pat McAfee was so much better off when he did things (and his show) his own way. His personality and enthusiasm is great, but it is just not cutting with the longtime fans on Gameday right now.
Used to love watching College Gameday. The dynamic has certainly change. Really sad seeing Corso get so old and struggle each week. I hope they can revive the show
CHANGE HAPPENS. You either change with it or move on. Everyone has opinions. I love the new Gameday and everything Mcafee is/brings to everything he does.
You either like professional sports analysis or locker room analysis. 70% of people that watch football don’t even know concepts and schemes. College game day needed energy and if you can’t see it you’re probably still sippin your coffee at 10Am. The show has been electric and the crowds have given some CLASSIC moments already
The Ol Crimson disrespect is also a problem for me because of the lore and care for the small things like the WSU flag on gameday. That he as a not very storied consumer of the product doesn't fully understand.
I liked it best when both Chris Fowler and Reece Davis were on the show. I used to like Herbstreet, but lately he seems to spend a lot of his time defending and clarifying for Lee Corso. Now the whole team is trying to be goofy with McAfee and they all come off like doofuses.
I like the college football information we used to get. We used to get lots of information. Now we get lots of what they consider to be heart warming stories of how someone overcame some stuff to get to college.
I for the life of me can't understand the appeal of Pat McAfee. I don't have a problem with Corso. He is very old and not on point, but I still enjoy seeing him. Because he's so iconic, so nostalgic. Corso IS Gameday
I understand the McAfee market. If McAfee loved college football and watched the college gameday show as a kid he would be the perfect addition to the show. As more of a casual I think he should be used in a more interactive role where he does crazy stunts, and partakes in campus traditions and kind of does the Gene role but in the form of actually participating in traditions and cool stuff.
When they were at Tennessee and McAfee decided to lead the crowd in Rocky Top right before the guest picker made her selection it put the nail in the coffin for my opinion on him. It seems instead of being College Gameday it is just the Pat McAfee show lite. Going to have to give Big Noon a shot this weekend.
Pat has to be the center, the IT, of anything he's part of. I have never understood his draw. Maybe in small doses he's okay. He doesn't fit in a group setting. He can't keep his mouth shut long enough for anyone else to get the story/report flowing. He needs to go. After the PAC's start this year, including Oregon St and Wassu, maybe ESPN put their money on the wrong horse! Is this why Disney is having money issues, making BAD hires? I record the show and start watching after it's been on for about an hour. I could fast forward the commercials and be caught up just before the end of the show. I fast forward most of Pat's act and now I'm caught up 30 minutes before the show's over.
College gameday has turned into a joke:( PMc is not the right person for this show. Each team should be respected, regardless of their record. Disappointed 😮
Pats a great guy went to one of his shows after the show he came down and met every single person in the pouring rain and actually had a conversation with everyone. He is a real person that genuinely is thankful for every single person that watches his show.
I've begun watching Big Noon Kickoff because I no longer have a streaming service. Currently, I only watch snippets of Gameday in the gym, then watch Big Noon at home on antenna. I guess you could say accessibility is a factor for me.
I’ll be a voice in the other direction. Pat was the reason I started watching college gameday every Saturday. I don’t tune in for all of it, usually just the last hour. I agree about the Lee thing. It would probably be best if they had the guy retire. He’s been a great influence on the sport, but none of us are getting any younger. I think Pat was better for the show his first year. He was the “spice” factor to balance out the rest of the more composed, suit-wearing panel. This year, it feels like they want everyone to join into the tomfoolery with Pat. It feels a little over-the-top now to be sure. While I agree they need to do more to level out this show during a time of flux, I also hold that Pat is a huge reason more young people are tuning in to the show (like myself).
I used to watch Game Day and felt good about my school no matter what was said. It's so different now. The chemistry is different. Michael Jordan said, "Everyone buys shoes, I like everyone." ESPN needs to clean up their act or they will lose it all.
I agree ESPN is bad, but what you’re saying would be terrible too lol. Do you really want to watch a show where everyone is only given compliments? That would feel so fake to me
I appreciate anyone who can simultaneously criticize and be a fan of someone at the same time. Too many people on the internet are one or the other. Yay, nuance
My solution idea: 1 have Lee Corso ride off into the sunset and retire. 2 Bring back in David Pollock to replace Corso. 3 Have Pat McAfee tone it down and be more reserved as a slightly more spicy than the rest but not exceedingly overpowering everyone else. Great show, great ending for Corso, and more order.
When Gameday started, the vibe was that it was just some guys at ESPN who really loved college football, sitting and talking about it. And then they got the idea of "Hey, what if we did the show live on a campus where a big game is scheduled?" and it went on from there. It doesn't feel like that now. It feels like any other ESPN show where they just are there because they are being paid to, rather than being excited to talk about the game AND getting paid for it. And the new version of the intro song is just....boring.
Pat can't draw 300,000. So who is he drawing in? That does not come close to covering the $17 million a year they are paying him. He decided to jump on board this train wreck. My bet is that he already regrets it. ESPN may as well. When you get beat in the ratings by NBA today, you have a problem. It isn't even basketball season.
That’s only on Cable , which he just joined a month ago … his RU-vid still does 300,000-500,000 an ep bc most of his fan base watches him on RU-vid still
Pat is a wrestling heel at this point. As long as he doesn't cross a line that gets him fired, he can say what he wants, whether it's brutally honest, his twisted view on things, or somewhere in between. He is Skip Bayless; saying outrageous things to get people to watch.
It's amazing how few people get that Pat was cutting a heel promo. ESPN's clearly trying to skew the oveeall demo younger with Pat's addition, but they're trying to do it for a Saturday morning show. Problem is... college students don't watch the show. Alumni do. We'll see what adjustments ESPN makes to the show after feedback from this season.
I've been turned off by the show not going to more schools and just chasing around rankings all season, going to Georgia 2 weeks in a row in 2021 was pretty absurd.
As a member of UC's band, knowing a lot of people who attended BNK in Bearcat Commons week 3, it seems a lot better than CFB GameDay. Never attended GameDay though, nor BNK as a fan, but based off of week 3 reactions, BNK is the future of college preshows.
I’ll give my two cents from a different perspective. I cover Kansas Football and it’s been interesting to deal with both shows as GameDay came in 2022 and Big Noon just a few weeks ago for the KU vs. OU game. For both shows, they usually will give local media a chance to talk with some of the members of the show and give us a chance to go backstage right before the shows start to get some behind-the-scenes footage for like social media or stuff. Dealing with ESPN was such a headache. They weren’t accommodating at all and it just felt like they were just doing the bare minimum in all proportions. Don’t get me wrong, it was neat because we talked to Reece and Des a day before the show and were allowed access before the show. But it just felt like there was that expectation to cover it so they just essentially brushed us off to the side. Overall, it just felt chaotic and they really just didn’t care. Dealing with Fox was a completely different story. The staff we worked with to set up media with Rob Stone, Matt Leinart and Urban were so nice. They were so appreciative we were there to give them the media attention, and they gave off the energy that they were really happy to be there. It felt like we were more of a priority rather than a burden. It also felt like they legitimately cared compared to GameDay which just felt like they were coasting off of name recognition alone. Looking at ratings, GameDay will have to make some huge changes in the future otherwise Big Noon is going to smoke them.
As a WSU alumni and pac 1(2) fan, im dissapointed of what the conference has become and im nervous for what future holds for us cougs and beavs. Cougs and beavs always stick together
@@AAblade7 but then again look at the rest of the pac 12 heading further out. Realistically the programs are done for a year or two and come back with the MW or just join the MW outright
2 thoughts: 1). Fox’s Big noon kickoff is far better than game day and it’s been like that for a couple years at least. 2). I like Pat but he doesn’t fit the vibe for college gameday, David Pollack is missed. Also I’m a Michigan guy, Portnoy came thru to Ann Arbor with the barstool sports gameday set up last year for a game and they were the best!
you know If anything, Lee Corso is the whole thing that’s keeping the show together with the whole mascot head tradition because once he leaves the show dies with it and honestly it’s going to get worse with now the rise of the Internet and people could just watch RU-vid videos in the morning and they already have their information or they could form their own opinions without being told to so yep
Gameday died when it went to 3 hours and quit being about football analysis and more about sappy stories in college football and about Lee Corso being a mascot. There hasn't been any substance. That show seems to have a complete and total hatred for college football now and has for 15 years or so. Especially Lee Corso.
Funny thing is, Pat’s core fan base (whether he wants to admit they are/were his core fan base) absolutely trashed him for the ESPN move. So you’ll find no disagreement from them on this. Just isn’t his medium.
It’s time for corso to go. He should have called it at 400 episodes. Pat brings confrontation to the show. Gets clicks. Hate that the cut so many ppl to get Pat.
Makes sense, i for one stopped watching urinating tree and i think barry something for the same reasons people dont like pat. Atleast urinating tree attacked his own team when need be but the other guy was getting worse bit or not. Thats why i like your stuff far more.
Pats just jacked up home boy has so much energy. Pat is a better shot than anyone else at ESPN to be successful. In reality most people will ride or die with pat, he’s more of an every man than half the suits on the stage
