Grandma lived on College Avenue and I stayed with her a lot. Now I live downtown. I've lived in just about every neighborhood in this city in my 67 years😮

Glad you were safe walking through there. Because college hill is the straight trenches. A really dangerous neighborhood

There is a general problem in the city, as a lot of cities have, but there are a lot of good people in this neighborhood and they are redeveloping Peace Park which is going to be really nice. Thanks for watching- I appreciate it.

@@organstl and thank you Mr organ I appreciate you telling me that. I've lived in just about every neighborhood at one time or another in my 67 years on this planet. All of the memories haven't been good in a city this violent however there are a lot of things it's fun to reminisce about. That being said I appreciate your videos for taking me down memory lane.

Wonderful video as usual. When I was a kid I heard about the Bissel and Grand Ave. water tower but only saw them fleetingly once I believe while driving by enroute to our grandmother's house who lived North off Goodfellow on Garasche by the small arms plant. Do u know, can u go up in the Bissel Tower? I know sometimes they open the tower at Reservoir Park in Compton Heights for tours. I had to laugh looking at those schools, all built on William Ittner's design. I went to Horace Mann School on Juniata by Tower Grove Park. Looked like those schools and I remember that green iron fence around the school we would all run into when sliding down the hills during the snow in the schoolyard. I also heard of the Pink Sisters. My parents would talk about them but had never seen them. I thought someone told me it is a quiet order where they just pray and seldom talk. Not sure about that. Thanks again.

Yes, the pink sisters do perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament round the clock, 24 hours a day. I don't think the red tower is open, but I'm not 100% sure. I should've looked at that closer while I was there. The one in Compton Heights is closed for now- they definitely did do tours there but it is completely closed right now. I think a chunk of concrete fell off. They are discussing renovating these towers which is much needed.

The church and school (the church burned down a long time ago) at the corner of Linton and north 20th street was called our Lady of Perpetual Help. I lived across the street until the age of 9. Now the whole neighborhood looks like a war zone. Disgusting.

Thanks for the tour of my old neighborhood. I lived about a half block down the street from the Bissell Tower on Blair Avenue in a south easterly direction away from Grand Avenue and toward Ferry Street. My buddies and I used to walk down Grand Avenue across Broadway and down to the Mississippi River to swim. It’s amazing that I am still alive after fully submerging in that water. Anyway, it was a good place to grow up in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

I remember doing all of that in the 1960s even playing on the Pruitt igoe playground which we were promptly chased out of.😮

@@edljnehan2811 You were braver than I was, although while in high school I dated a girl that lived in the Cocharan projects. My brother lived on Linton Avenue and my niece attended Perpetual Help elementary. I have thought about moving back and living in the downtown area. Take care!

@@pauljackson4075 and to think we were all YT kids who lived on 23rd and Montgomery which wasn't too far from Pruitt igoe. I was so happy to move to Southwest St Louis in 1970 where I became a hippie which was one hell of a lot safer hahaha

@@pauljackson4075 I wouldn't recommend coming back and moving downtown. It's not like it used to be it's extremely dangerous down here with 24 killings on one weekend alone downtown. Take care brother
